Abstract

Dry land is one type marginal land, because of drought caused many negative impacts on plants. Drought will cause a disruption of metabolic processes of plants such as the inhibition of nutrient absortion, inhibition ofcell division and enlargement, decreased enzyme activity and the closure of stomata, so that growth and development of palnts become stunted. This research aims to study the response of soil water stress to growth and yield of Jambu local upland rice. The experiment was conducted in green house, at Faculty of Agriculture, Mulawarman University. The study consisted of one experiments carried out by using a completely randomized design with five replications. Experiments soil water content (W) which consist five levels including field capacity (100%), 90% from field capacities, 80% from field capacity, 70% of field capacity and 60% of field capacity. The results of research that treatment of water stress showed significant different to all data. The best result obtained by treatment of water stress is treatment field capacities (WO).

Abstract

The experiment aimed to identify the growing of rubber seedling (Hevea brasilliensis L.) from oculation upon the application of Bokashi and Bintang Kuda Laut organic liquid fertilizer, as well as its interaction, and to find the proper dosage of Bokashi and Bintang Kuda Laut organic liquid fertilizer for rubber seedling. The experiment lasted for four months, from June to September 2012, at the screen house Agriculture Faculty Widya Gama Mahakam University, Sempaja Samarinda city. The experiment employed Completely Randomized Design with factorial 3x4 and three replications. The first factor was Bikashi (B): no bikashi (b0); 300 g bokashi/polybag (b1); 600 g bokashi/polybag (b2). And the secand factor was Bintang Kuda Laut Organic liquid fertilizer (P): no organic liquid fertilizer (p0); 3 ml/liter water (p1); 6 ml/liter water (p2); and 9 ml/liter water (p3). Results of the experiment showed that: (1) significant responses of Bokashi on the parameters of plant height, number of leaf at the stage of 60 and 90 old days after planting and diameter of stem; (2) significant responses on the application of Bintang Kuda Laut Organic liquid fertilizer on plant height, number of leaf at the stage of 60 and 90 old days and diameter of stem; (3) there was no significant responses on all parameters upon the interaction between bikashi and Bintang Kuda Laut organic liquid fertilizer application.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with the second largest palnt biodiversity in the world, where in the biodiversity, the potential stored medicinal palnts that have not been explored to the maximum. The potential is very large to ensure the health and welfare of the people if well utilized. In addition to the wealth of plant diversity, Indonesia is also rich in ethnic and cultural diversity. Central Bereau of Statistics (BPS) said in Indonesiahas 1,128 tribes scattered across the country. Each tribe has a different repertoire, and at any rate, there is a wealth of diverse indigenous communities, including the use of herbs for traditional medicine. It needs to be done in connection with exploration and inventory of medicinal palnts and their utilization in the community based on local wisdom. Research to obtain data fitogeografi, agro-climate, utilization based on local wisdom, phytochemicals, and socio-economic of medicinal plants will be very important in building a database that can be used as an important information in the process of domestication of medicinal plants to increase productivity in terms of both quality and quantity, as well as pilot plant based drugs for independence. Thus, the saintifikasi herbs can be developed at the same time throughout the health care facility.East Kalimantan is one of the provinces that have the richness and diversity of plants, as well as ethnic/tribes spread over 13 districts. One of the tribes that Agabag Dayak Tribe, who live and occupy the area and surrounding counties Nunukan. This research was conducted with the Snowball Sampling especially in determining the informant/battara. How to do the sanpling informant seeking information from the public and based on the testimony of indigenous community leaders, chiefs, village heads, headmen, and other reputable sources in the community (road user) the informant/Battara determined. Abstract

There is a growing public concern about the outputs of agriculture that go beyond its primary function, i.e. production of food and fibre, but how is agriculture gave impact to improving the natural resources, social, and human health? This paper reviews the emerging multifunctional farming of rice based farming system, take the case of organic farming systems (fertilizers/pesticedes natural) and inorganic (using chemical production facilities) at two location in two districts of rice cultivation, which is in the district of Karanganyar and Sragen, Central Java Province. The analysis showed that rice cultivation with organic systems provide different functions and tend to be better than the inorganic system, the togetherness among farmers, soil quality maintenance function, biodiversity, reduction of environmental pollution, and the rural viability.

Abstract

A study that aimed to identify characteristics of mangrove forest soil and their inter-relationships, and to know status and limiting factor of the soil fertility, was conducted at wetland area around Badak NGL Company, Bontang City, Province of East Kalimantan. Results of the study showed that there was 2 main great groups of soil, tropofluvents and tropopsamments. Great group tropfluvents at Zone I and II of mangrove forest area is characterized by fibric, silty loam until loam texture, no until slightly clay and until moderately plastic consistency, with soil colour varied in black, brownish black, very dark brown, brown until brownish grey. At while great group tropopsamments which located at pulau  Siaca (SCK) is characterized by sand and sandy texture, no clay and no plastic consistency with soilcolour was light grey dominantly. Salinity of soil was positively related to content of sulphate (r = 0.55), while pH H2O was negatively related to soluble sulphate (r=0.62). Soil cation exchange capacity (CEC) was also negatively related to exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) (r=0.93). Hight content of soil sulphate was found at location of 25 Ha-mangrove forest, Sekambing Baltim and Sekambing Muara. Hight Sodium Absorption Ratio (SAR) was found at Sekangat and Sekambing Muara. Most of observation areas indicated hight to very hight status of soil fertility, except location of 25 ha-mangrove forest (L25 M and L 25 H) that indivated was low soil status and pulau Siaca (SCK) was moderately soil status. These low to moderately soil fertility status was determined by very low Phosphore, as main soil limiting factor.
