Abstract

Local rice of Toraja Plateau, such as Pare Bau’, Pare Kombong, Pare Lallodo, Pare Ambo’, and Pare Lea, is one source of organic food which may improve national food security in the future. In order to determine the character and superiority of these five accsessions, characterization, and observation had been conducted in North Toraja and Tana Toraja district in 2011–2013. Observation was carried out on five genotypes of local superior rice and one genotype as check variety (Cisantana variety). The experiment used randomized block design that was repeated five times, therefore 30 plots were observed. The parameters of observations consist of the growth components, yield components, productivity, nutrient content, flavor and aroma, and resistance to pests and diseases. The results showed that the five accessions have morphological difference, sharp and distinctive aroma, delicious/fluffier taste, resistance to pest, good adaptability to the plateau (700–2.000 m above sea level), high protein content, low fiber and glucose content, high vitamin B content, and delicious rice. Heritability values for all components of quantitative trait were ranged from moderate to high.AbstrakPadi lokal dataran tinggi di Tana Toraja, antara lain Pare Bau’, Pare Kombong, Pare Lallodo, Pare Ambo’, dan Pare Lea, merupakan salah satu sumber pangan organik dalam rangka meningkatkan ketahanan pangan nasional pada masa yang akan datang. Untuk mengetahui karakter dan keunggulannya, telah dilakukan karakterisasi dan observasi kelima aksesi tersebut di Kabupaten Toraja Utara dan Tana Toraja tahun 2011–2013. Observasi dilakukan terhadap lima genotipe padi unggul lokal serta satu genotipe pembanding, yaitu varietas Cisantana. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok yang diulang 5 kali sehingga terdapat 30 petak observasi. Pengamatan dilakukan pada komponen pertumbuhan, komponen hasil, produktivitas, kandungan gizi, rasa, dan aroma, ketahanan terhadap hama dan penyakit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelima aksesi berbeda secara morfologi, memiliki aroma yang tajam dan khas, rasa nasi yang enak/pulen, tahan terhadap OPT, daya adaptasinya baik pada dataran tinggi (700–2.000 m dpl), kandungan protein tinggi, kandungan serat dan glukosa rendah, kandungan vitamin B tinggi, dan rasa nasi enak/enak sekali. Nilai heritabilitas untuk semua komponen kuantitatif berkisar antara kriteria sedang sampai tinggi.

Abstract

Perubahan iklim global menyebabkan meluasnya daerah dengan risiko kekeringan. Cekaman kekeringan pada tanaman padi terutama terjadi di lahan gogo, tadah hujan, dan irigasi terbatas. Perakitan varietas yang cocok untuk daerah-daerah tersebut diharapkan dapat meningkatkan hasil padi secara nyata. Padi umur genjah efektif untuk mengantisipasi cekaman kekeringan fase generatif di akhir musim hujan melalui mekanisme escape. Namun demikian, kekeringan yang tidak dapat diprediksi yang dapat terjadi pada awal, tengah, maupun akhir musim tanam memerlukan varietas yang betul-betul toleran terhadap cekaman kekeringan. Penggabungan sifat umur genjah dan toleran kekeringan diharapkan mampu mengantisipasi kondisi cekaman kekeringan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui respons 23 genotipe padi umur genjah yang terdiri atas 3 varietas unggul, 10 varietas lokal, dan 10 galur introduksi yang diberi perlakuan optimum, tercekam kekeringan pada fase vegetatif (diairi hingga 7 hari setelah tanam dan diairi kembali ketika cek peka mengering), dan generatif (diairi hingga 28 hari setelah tanam dan diairi kembali hanya jika cek peka mengering). Penelitian dilakukan di Kebun Percobaan BB Padi di Sukamandi pada MK 2009. Genotipe yang diuji diberi perlakuan pengairan tersebut di atas tanpa ulangan untuk mengetahui secara deskriptif kondisi karakter-karakter penting genotipe-genotipe yang diuji pada ketiga kondisi pengairan tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan karakter hasil, Indeks Cekaman Kekeringan (IKK; Drought Sensitifity Index, DSS), Nilai Relatif (Relative Values, RV), dan keragaan agronomi, galur OM 1490 teridentifikasi toleran terhadap cekaman kekeringan fase vegetatif dan generatif dengan hasil 28,17 g/tanaman, 24,11 g/tanaman, dan 24,72 g/tanaman pada kondisi optimum, tercekam vegetatif, dan generatif. OM 1490 telah dilepas sebagai varietas Inpari 13 pada tahun 2010 dan varietas ini telah digunakan dalam kegiatan pemuliaan tanaman menghasilkan galur-galur harapan yang baru. AbstrakGlobal climate change has caused the spread of drought prone areas. Drought stress for rice mostly happen in upland, rainfed, and limited irrigation lowland areas. Development of varieties suitable for those areas would significantly increase rice yield. Early maturing genotypes are useful to anticipate predictable early or terminal drought by escape mechanism. Nevertheless, unpredictable drought happening during early, mid season and final planting season results in the need of genuinely droughttolerant genotypes. Combining early maturing and drought tolerant seems to be highly powerful to anticipate drought. This research was aimed to study the response of 23 early maturing rice genotypes consisting of 3 released varieties, 10 local varieties, and 10 introduced lines. The genotypes were exposed to vegetative (watered until 7 days after transplanting and rewater when the susceptible check was drying) and generative phase (watered until 28 days after transplanting and rewatered only if susceptible check was drying), drought stress conditions, and also optimum condition. The experiment was conducted in ICRR Experimental Station in Sukamandi during Dry Season (DS) of 2009. The genotypes were treated with three watering conditions mentioned above without replication to initially see the descriptive statistics of some agronomic traits of the genotypes under the mentioned conditions. The results showed that based on yield, Drought Sensitifity Index (DSS), Relative Values (RV), and agronomic performance, OM 1490 had been identified as tolerant to vegetative and generative drought stresses. It yielded 28.17 g/plant, 24.11 g/plant, and 24.72 g/plant at optimum, vegetative, and generative drought condition, respectively. OM 1490 had been released as Inpari 13 in 2010 and it had beed utilized for further breeding effort resulting new promising lines.

Abstract

Fatmawati, a rice variety released in 2003, is a new plant type (NPT) of rice that had different characteristic from existing high yielding rice varieties (HYV). The yield potential of this rice variety is 7.5 t/ha. Therefore its cultivated is expected to increase national rice production. However, the dissemination of this variety was hampered in several regions due to its susceptibility to blast disease and high percentage of empty grain caused by partially exserted and enclosed panicle. This research was conducted to evaluate 104 dihaploid mutant lines of Fatmawati for resistance to blast disease and good agronomic characters, especially for panicle exsertion rate. The first research was conducted in the endemic area of blast disease at Cikembar-Sukabumi, West Java. The blast disease resistance lines were then subsequently evaluated for their agronomic characters by planting in the green house and in the field. The results indicated that 40 dihaploid mutant lines were characterized as resistant and moderately resistant to blast (score 3–5). Agronomic characters evaluation in the green house and in the field resulted in 11 dihaploid mutant lines with well exerted panicle (0% of coverage of panicle by flagleaf sheath) and high grains per panicle (229–283 grains/panicle). Those lines were F99, F102, F116, F122, F130, F134, F138, F147, F149, F150, and F153. AbstrakFatmawati, varietas padi yang dilepas tahun 2003, adalah padi tipe baru (PTB) yang mempunyai karakteristik berbeda dari varietas padi unggul baru (VUB). Potensi hasil varietas padi ini adalah 7,5 t/ha. Penanaman varietas ini diharapkan akan meningkatkan produksi padi nasional. Namun, diseminasi varietas ini di beberapa tempat mengalami hambatan karena kerentanannya terhadap penyakit blas dan tingginya persentase gabah hampa akibat setengah tertutupnya atau tertutup semuanya malai oleh pelepah daun bendera. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi 104 galur mutan dihaploid turunan Fatmawati terhadap ketahanan blas dan karakter agronomi, khususnya laju keluarnya malai. Penelitian pertama dilakukan di daerah endemik penyakit blas di Cikembar- Sukabumi, Jawa Barat. Galur-galur yang tahan blas kemudian dievaluasi karakter agronominya dengan menanam di rumah kaca dan lapang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 40 galur mutan dihaploid dikategorikan sebagai tahan dan agak tahan penyakit blas (skor 3–5). Evaluasi karakter agronomi di rumah kaca dan lapang menghasilkan 11 galur mutan dihaploid yang malainya sempurna keluar (0% penutupan malai oleh pelepah daun bendera) dan jumlah gabah/malai tinggi (229–283 gabah/malai). Galur mutan dihaploid tersebut adalah galur F99, F102, F116, F122, F130, F134, F138, F147, F149, F150, dan F153.

Abstract

Autecological research of Shorea hopeifolia (F. Heim) Symington was done at Resort Pemerihan, National Park of South Bukit Barisan, Lampung in November 2014. The data was collected using a square plot of 20 m x 20 m, number of sample units made was three plots and each plot was made to four subplots with the distance of 50 m between the subplots, distance between the plots was 2,000 m. The results showed that S. hopeifolia was found at altitudes above 260 m asl, alongside of the hill with a rather steep topography and groups. Vegetation encountered in the surrounding consisted of Dipterocarpus kunstleri King. with IVI of 28.89%, Shorea ovalis Blume with IVI of 18.83% and Lithocarpus elegans Blume with IVI of 15.06%. The physical environment temperature was between 25–35°C, humidity was between 52–76%, slope was between 15–65%, and altitude from sea level was between 276 to 350 m. D. kunstleri King. associated with the most powerful S. hopeifolia (close to 1) Ochiai index of 0.81, followed by S. ovalis Blume Ochiai index of 0.65 and Dillenia excelsa (Jack) Gilg. Ochiai index 0.52. Natural regeneration was assisted by wildlife especially hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros) and the flow of rain water. AbstrakPenelitian autekologi damar asam (Shorea hopeifolia (F. Heim) Symington) telah dilakukan di Resort Pemerihan, Taman Nasional Bukit Barisan Selatan, Lampung pada bulan November 2014. Pengumpulan data menggunakan plot bujur sangkar ukuran 20 m x 20 m, jumlah satuan contoh yang dibuat tiga plot dan masing-masing plot dibuat 4 subplot dengan jarak antarsubplot 50 m, jarak antarplot 2.000 m. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa damar asam dijumpai pada ketinggian tempat di atas 260 m dpl, di pinggir bukit dengan topografi agak curam dan berkelompok. Vegetasi di sekitarnya yang dijumpai adalah kruing (Dipterocarpus kunstleri King.) dengan INP sebesar 28,89%, meranti merah (Shorea ovalis Blume) INP = 18,83%, dan Lithocarpus elegans Blume dengan INP = 15,06%. Lingkungan fisik suhu antara 25–35°C, kelembaban udara antara 52–76%, kemiringan lahan antara 15–65% dan ketinggian tempat dari permukaan laut antara 276 sampai 350 m. Jenis kruing (D. kunstleri King.) berasosiasi dengan damar asam paling kuat (mendekati 1) indeks Ochiai 0,81 diikuti meranti merah (S. ovalis Blume) indeks Ochiai 0,65 dan sempur Dillenia excelsa (Jack) Gilg. indeks Ochiai 0,52. Regenerasi alami dibantu oleh satwa liar terutama burung rangkong (Buceros rhinoceros) dan aliran air hujan.

Abstract

Timor deer (Rusa timorensis de Blainville 1822) known as java deers are native Indonesian fauna, mostly found ex situ. Deers in captivity can be an attraction object of tourism. The research was conducted from March to April 2013 at Dramaga Research Forest, Situ Gede Village, Bogor City. Dramaga research forest was build on 1956 as an arboretum with 127 tree species. The purpose of this research was to identify deer feed given by visitors in captivity, changes in behavior and consumption patterns. The feed given by visitors to deer was about 89% convolvulus, 8% carrots, 2% leaves, and 1% wild grasses. The feed meets the basic needs of a deer with convolvulus containing 8,93% protein and carrots containing 19,99% protein. The results of statistical test by chi-square indicate that no real influence on the behavior and consumption patterns of the deers in captivity, but nominally show some changes decrease of persentation. Consumption pattern and social behaviour increased, while resting, locomotion, and ruminational behaviours decreased. AbstrakRusa timor (Rusa timorensis de Blainville 1822) merupakan rusa asli Indonesia yang populasinya banyak ditemukan di luar habitat aslinya, khususnya di penangkaran. Rusa dapat menjadi daya tarik wisata di penangkaran, karena tampilannya yang menarik. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Maret sampai April 2013 di Hutan Penelitian (HP) Dramaga, Kelurahan Situ Gede, Kecamatan Bogor Barat, Kota Bogor. Hutan Penelitian Dramaga dibangun tahun 1956 dengan tujuan sebagai koleksi tanaman dengan 127 jenis pohon. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi pakan rusa yang diberikan pengunjung di penangkaran Dramaga, perubahan perilaku dan pola konsumsi. Metode pengumpulan data melalui pengamatan langsung di lapang dengan focal animal sampling dan metode pengambilan data one-zero sampling terhadap perilaku dan pola konsumsi rusa, wawancara dengan pengunjung serta studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis pakan yang diberikan oleh pengunjung meliputi 89% kangkung, 8% wortel, 2% daun-daun, dan 1% rumput lapang. Jenis pakan memiliki nilai gizi yang dapat mencukupi kebutuhan rusa di penangkaran. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa pemberian pakan oleh pengunjung tidak berpengaruh terhadap perubahan perilaku dan pola konsumsi harian rusa. Tetapi secara nominal menunjukkan adanya perubahan perilaku makan dan sosial yang meningkat, perilaku istirahat, lokomosi, dan mamah biak yang menurun. Perubahan tersebut berpengaruh pada kegiatan biologis rusa, dan diduga dapat mengganggu kesehatan.
