Abstract

The interactions between cis-[PtCl(15NH3)2(H2O)]+ and N-acetylcysteine (H3accys) in aqueous solution was investigated. In this reaction, polymeric solid was not formed and the amine liberation was slower than that of cis-[Pt(15NH3)2(H2O)2]2+. Initially, the only product observed in the reaction of cis-[PtCl(15NH3)2(H2O)]+ with a variety of thiols was a platinum(II) species with chloride and the thiolate ligand bound monodentate through sulphur, although different final product was obtained in each reaction. In this reaction, after the formation of a species with thiolate bound monodentate cis-[PtCl(15NH3)2(H2accys-S), two new platinum products were observed, namely a four-membered ring dinuclear platinum(II) complex, cis-[{Pt(15NH3)2)2}2( µ-Cl) ( µ-H2accys-S)]2+ and a six-membered -S,O- chelate ring complex, cis-[Pt(15NH3)2(Haccys-S,O), while dinuclear sulphur-bridged complex cis-[{Pt(NH3)2}2(H2accys- µ-S)2)]2+, giving a broad peak in 15N NMR, was only present in very tiny amounts in this reaction.

Abstract

We discuss recent developments in electromagnetic production of kaon of a nucleon. A detailed chronological progress in this field is presented. Special attention is given for the isobar model which is not only useful for explaining experimental data, but also important in the nuclear application. Other applications, such as in the quest of "missing resonances" and in the investigation of the hadronic as well as electromagnetic baryon form factors, are also discussed. We also touch on the latest achievements in Regge models and multipole analyses of this process. The basic formalism required for numerical calculations is also thoroughly presented.

Abstract

The non-orthogonal Laguerre L2 basis has been applied in the intermediate energy region (30, 40 and 50 eV) for the electron impact elastic and excitation of 21S, 21P, 23S and 23P states of helium. Differential and integrated cross sections are calculated and compared with recent experiments. The results for each case are discussed and compared with other calculation. It is found that the results agree quite well with experiments and with the other results.

Abstract

Lasing performance of Nd3+-fluoroaluminate glasses has been predicted with the help of laser parameters for the transitions 4F3/2 → 4I9/2, 4F3/2 → 4I11/2 and 4F3/2 → 4I13/2 in the near infrared region. Judd-Ofelt parameters have been used for the calculations of different laser parameters. Analysis yielded some of the important spectroscopic parameters, namely radiative transition probabilities, radiative lifetimes and fluorescence branching ratios. The branching ratios for 4F3/2 → 4I13/2 and their emission to Exited State Absorption (ESA) intensity ratios are higher at the glasses containing Pb2+ ion while their radiative lifetime shows the opposite trend. The overall results reported here showed that Nd3+doped fluoroaluminate glasses containing Pb2+ is a promising active laser material with high refraction index.

Abstract

TiO2:Co thin films were grown on Si substrates by Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) technique using titanium(IV)isopropoxide and tris(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionato)cobalt (III), and oxygen gas. The films grown at temperature of 450 oC were crystalline having a rutile structure with (002) orientation. Based on Energy Dispersive Spectroscope (EDS) analysis, Co content in TiO2 was 1.83% and films exhibit ferromagnetic properties at room temperature. Hysteresis curves obtained from Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) measurement have coercive and saturation magnetic fields of 130 Oe and 2.1 emu/cm3, respectively. Application of TiO2:Co as injection material in spintronic device with TiO2:Co/Si/TiO2:Co structure was investigated. The effect of polarized spin injection (magnetoresistance phenomenon) was observed from the current-voltage characteristics of the device.

Abstract

The Bi4Ti3O12 powder was synthesized using hydrothermal method from Bi2O3/TiO2 and Bi(OH)3/TiO2 as starting materials and NaOH as mineralizer. Characterization of the obtained powder was carried out using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). High purity of Bi4Ti3O12 powder was obtained from reaction at 240 °C, 72 hours and NaOH of 3 M for both starting materials. The obtained diffraction patterns were similar with the standard pattern (PDF, no. 35-0795). The FTIR spectrum revealed two absorption peaks at 587 and 827 cm-1, which are characterictic absorbtion of octahedral TiO6 in Bi4Ti3O12 structure.

Abstract

We review the progress in current understanding of the hypernuclear production through electromagnetic interaction. The motivation behind the interest in this investigation, i.e., the hyperon-nucleon force, is briefly overviewed. Special attention is given for the kaon productions on a deuteron and 3He. We also discuss some advantages of electromagnetic production of hypernucleus compared with the hadronic one.

Abstract

We have examined the movements of individual sunspots within two sunspot groups, NOAA 0375 in association with M7.3 flare appeared on 12 June 2003 and NOAA 9715 associated with M1.3 flare on 2 December 2001. For this purpose we measured the distance of two bipolar spots directly related to the flares with respect to a reference spot in the active region during the period before flare activity and estimated the average velocity of their movements. The main result is that the spots related with flares had average velocity greater than the flare-unrelated spots.

Abstract

Thin film of TiO2:Eu had been grown on an n-type Si(100) substrate using Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) method with titanium (IV) isopropoxide [Ti{OCH(CH3)2}4] 99.99% and europium nitrate [Eu(NO3)3.6H2O] 99.99% as the metal organic precursors. The tetrahydrofuran (THF) was used as a solvent for the precursor. X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the TiO2:Eu thin film grown at temperature of 450 οC had crystal planes of rutile (200), rutile (002) and anatase (211), whereas film grown at 500 οC resulted in a crystal plane of rutile (002) with columnar grain and surface morphology relatively smooth. On the other hand, film grown at temperature of 550 οC has rutile (200) and rutile (002) planes. The surface morphology of thin films TiO2:Eu was affected by Eu atom concentration. The roughness of surface morphology increased with increasing Eu content and therefore the grains became larger. It can be concluded that the crystal structure and surface morphology properties of the films depended significantly on the substrate temperature.
