Abstract

The objective this research is to investigate the effect of crosshead speed on the tensile behavior of the structural steel which is presented in stress-strain diagram. The experiments were carried out by performing tensile testing of specimens with various crosshead speeds. The crosshead speed was determined by a dial position of 0.2, 0.5, 1, and 2 on the testing machine.In load-free condition, the dial positions give true speed of the crosshead of 0.042 mm/s, 0.27mm/s, 0.663 mm/s, and 1.354 mm/s respectively. The material used in this research is astructural steel which is comparable to the standard of DIN ST37. The result shows that the various crosshead speeds give a different response of the strain rate during the test. The strain rate, whic is resembled by the crosshead speed, begins to increase at the yield point. Also, theultimate stress of the specimens is affected by the crosshead speed. The ultimate stress of the specimens with dial position of 2 increases approximately 25% from that of with dial position of 0.2.Keywords : tensile behavior, crosshead speed, strain rate

Abstract

In the preparation process of outlet pipe I type 316N, an imperfect shape occurs when it is combined with its part/ Base on the analysis conducted, spring back on forming process occurs so that it makes the size of diameter of outlet pipe improper after combined with its parts. There are several methods that can be used to eliminated springback, but for this case, a graphical approach is conducted to calculate the addition of punch-dies geometry as the compensation of springback. Punch-dies reconstruction for preparation process outlet pipe I by inserting material springback factor, dies radius (Rdo)=19.14mm and punch radius (Rpo) = 17.92 mm.Keywords : punch, dies, springback,, forming process

Abstract

One of way in pickling process of main food material of vegetable and fruits is storage. In principle metabolism storage, like respiration, transpiration, infection plant diseases and lengthen more durable. Purpose of storage of fruit and vegetable to lengthen product usefulness, controls request of market and increases advantage. At research before all, the system controlled atmosphere storage still be done in manual either from within observation of composition and operation of gas in it. Therefore, need to be done modification of equipment with addition of monitoring system and gas control automatically, so that change of gas volumein storage space of CAS can be detected. Equipment applied in this research is microcontroller AT89S51 and its arrangement system by using computer. With existence of communications between microcontroller system with personal computer through IC RS 232. At this researc happened change of oxygen gas concentration from 21% to 2% and increase of percentage of carbondioxide from 0.03% to 2.5% for temperature 26oC. this matter is according to boundariset wanted for condition of apple atmosphere Rome Beauty.Keywords : Oxygen, carbondioxide, CAS, MKAT89S51, Personal Computer (PC)

Abstract

One company has a cracker in Landungsari Malang open steam generating machine. Some weaknesses in the machine such that the resulting low temperature, long heating time and fuel consumption of a large or wasteful of fuel. This experiment was conducted to improve the efficient use of steam heat, namely by modifying the power plant steam into a closed system, with the hope eventually can be used not only as an energy source steaming but also to the source of energy in drying crackers. Modify and test the performance of steam powerplant, to evaluate energy efficiency, conducted at the Laboratory of Resources and Agricultural Machinery, Agricultural Engineering Department, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Malang UB. Tests conducted with the treatment of water volume 55 liters (V1) and 69 liters (V2) andtreatment pressure of 1 atm (P1) and 2 atm (P2).Keywords : steam power plant, energy efficiency

Abstract

The study of energy conservation using the head exchanger with different fin shapes havebeen carried out, including research on the counter flow heat exchanger using a helical spiral shaped fin is placed on the inner pipe. The problem lies in the acquisition of the influence of the diameter of the helical fin to the characteristic of performance counter flow heat exchanger. The diameter of the helical fin which the test is 8 mm, 12 mm and 16 mm. The objective is achieved, the effect of the diameter of the helical fin characteristic of performance counter flow heat exchanger in the increase of hot water discharge 400 liters / hour, 500 liters / hour, 600 liters /hour, 700 liters / hour, 800 liters / hr and 900 liters / hour. Method of design of experiments with laboratory-scale experiments using a set-up equipment double tube heat exchanger is the method used. The results obtained, the highest effectiveness for all types of helical fins foundon discharge 400 liters / h with the order from highest to lower the effectiveness of internal diameter of 12 mm reached 17.66%, diameter of 8 mm effectiveness reaches 15:56% and the internal diameter of 16 mm effectiveness of achieving 14.29%. Abstract

Effect of inner-helical fin on the rate of heat transfer and flow friction factor in a double pipe heat exchanger (double tube heat exchanger) to make a split and disrupt the flow pattern of a streamlined flow of the fluid flowing in the pipe section in the (inner tube) that cause turbulence (molecule-molecule level of randomness good fluid) that can increase the heat transfer rate in the the pipe . Inner-helical fin has a varied thickness of 1 mm, 22 mm and 3 mm are mounted on the pipe where the inside diameter of the inner-helical fin attached to the wall in the inner pipe. Hot water discharge on the inner pipe ditelitil ranging from 400 to 900 liters / h with interval increase in 100 liter / hour and the volumetric flow rate of cold water on the outer tube (outertube) is kept constant 900 liters / hour. The test results of each inner-helical fin thickness compared with the test results without the inner-helical fin (plain tube) and obtained the overall heat transfer rate has increased 60 to 65% of the plain tube, heat exchanger effectiveness of58.56 to 63, 64% and friction factor of 63.13 to 63.51 of the plain tube.Keywords : Inner-helical fin, Heat exchanger, rate of heat transfer, friction factor
