Abstract

This research aims to find out the influence of toping on each melon tree towards the yield of melon, and the influence of the use of various growing media compositions towards the yield of melon. This research is conducted in green house at Kaliurang Street km 16.3, Umbulmartani, Pakem, Sleman Regency, the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The research was held when august to October 2017. The research method used is Field Trial which is arranged by using Complete Randomized Design with two treatment factors and is repeated three times. The first factor is the use of growing media in the form of husk charcoal and zeolite (100% : 0%), (85% : 15 %), (70% : 30%), and (55% : 45%). The second factors are performing toping and not performing toping. Based on the analysis, it is shown that there is no interaction between growing media composition and toping treatment based on growing parameters or yield. The growing media composition with husk charcoal and zeolite (85% : 15%) shows a good result in affecting the parameters of fruit weight and fruit diameter. Toping treatment gives a good result for the parameters of fruit weigh, fruit diameter, brix, and flesh thickness. Keywords: melon, toping, growing media composition, hydroponic drip system

Abstract

Broccolli (Brassica oleracea L. Var. Italica) is one of the vegetables variety which has lots of nutrients, and it also has high economic value. This research aimed to find out the response of growth, yield, and quality of broccolli (Brassica oleracea L. Var. Italica) varieties among the plant spacings. This research was conducted in Mei until August 2017 in Weron Hamlet, Umbulharjo Village, Cangkringan Subdistrict, Sleman Residence in DIY Province. This research used randomized complete block design (RCBD) which was arranged factorially. It consisted of two factors with three replications. The first factor is broccolli variety that are Griifn (V1), Green Super (V2), and Chief no.2 (V3). The second factor is spacing plants which consists of 4 levels, that are 65cm x 60cm (J1), 70cm x 60cm (J2), 75cm x 60cm (J3), and 80cm x 60cm (J4). The observation data were analyzed for its diversity at the level α = 5%. In addition, Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the level α = 5% was used to find out the difference on averange treatment. The result showed that there is an interraction between the treatment variety of broccolli and the plant spacings in harvest parameters. The variety of Green Super which is 80 cm x 60 cm has a good result to broccolli yield. This yield is compared to other treatments. However, the yield is still low if it is seen from the description of variety. Keywords: broccoli, varieties, Plant spacing

Abstract

This study aimed to observe the growth and yield of Chiherang rice (Oryza sativa L) and weeds in response of different planting methods and weeding frequencies. We conducted the study in Semampir, Argorejo, Sedayu Sub-district, Bantul District on April until August, 2018. We arranged field study using randomized complete block design in 3x2 factorials with 3 times repetition. First factor was Jajar legowo (J) stratified as 3 levels; 2:1 (J1), 4:1 (J2), dan 6:1 (J3). Second factor was weeding frequency in 2 levels which were 2 times in 14 and 70 hst (P1) and 3 times in 14, 49 and 70 hst (P2). Observed variables include Ciherang rice growth (plant height, total tillers, percentage of productive tillers, fresh and dried weight of each plant), components of rice yield (grain dry weight of each harvest, percentage of filled grains, yield of each hectares), and weeds (type of weeds, fresh and dry weight of weeds). We analyzed results using variance analysis with significant level of 5%, followed with 5% DMRT test. We found that application of jajar legowo planting method and weeding frequency do not correlates with all growth and weeding frequency variables of Ciherang rice and weeds. 2:1, 4:1 and 6:1 jajar legowo planting methods do not show significant impact both on Ciherang rice growth and yield, and also weeds. Both 2 times (14 and 70 hst) and 3 times (14, 49 and 70 hst) also do not have significant impact on all variables observed. Keywords: Jajar Legowo, Weeding Frequency, Ciherang Rice

Abstract

Okra (Abelmoschus esculantus) L. Moench), is an important vegetable that grows in the tropical and sub-tropical parts of the world. Okra plants contain very high nutritional value (at 100 g of young okra fruit containing 35 g of calories, 89.6 g of water, 6.4 g of carbohydrates, 1.9 g of protein, 0.4 g of fat, 1.2 g of fiber, 0 , 7 g of minerals). In Indonesia, okra plants have not been widely cultivated and the cultivation method has not used the right technology, so it is necessary to examine the proper cultivation methods of Okra. This study aims to determine the EC value of the most optimal nutrient solution and the effect of the type of planting media that is best on the growth and yield of okra plants. The research was carried out in plastic houses located in Pondok, Karangbendo, Banguntapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta in May to August 2018. Experiments using polybag with a Complete Randomized Block Design (RAKL) Split Plot two factors were repeated 3 times. The first factor as the main plot is the EC value of nutrient solution (C1: EC value 1.5 mS / cm, C2: EC value 2 mS / cm, C3: EC value 2.5 mS / cm) and the second factor as sub plot is type planting media (M1: Husk charcoal, M2: Sand Malang, M3: Husk charcoal + Cocopeat (1:1). The results showed that there was no interaction between the treatment of giving various EC values of nutrient solution and type of planting media. The treatment of various EC values of nutrient solution and type of planting media significantly affected the parameters of plant height growth, leaf area, root volume, flowering age, stem diameter, parameters of total fruit yield per plant, fresh weight per fruit, total fruit weight per plant, fruit weight per Ha. The treatment of giving EC values of 2.0 mS / cm showed suitable results for the growth and yield of okra plants. The treatment of the type of husk charcoal growing media showed suitable results for the growth and yield of okra plants. Keywords: Okra Plant, Substrate Hydroponic, Planting Media, Solution EC Value

Abstract

Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of crops that source of carbohydrate than rice. The maize production needs to production goal. The problems is traditional variety haved low yield. This study aims to determine the agronomic character and potential yield of several hybrids maize.. The research method used was randomized completely block design was repeated 3 times. The treatment factor namely hybrid maize genotype. The data obtained were analyzed in theirs diversities by using variace at 5 % level, if there were significant difference, continued by using the least significant increase at 5% level to compared of variety tester. The results shows that hybrid maize genotypes, G2KPW-43, G2KPW-45, and G2KPW-48 haved superiorities in agronomic character and higher potential yield.Key words: genotypes, potential yield, maize

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effective volume of water in several types of soil for the growth of Mucuna bracteata. This research was conducted at the Education and Research Garden (KP-2) of the Stiper Agricultural Institute located in Maguwoharjo, Sleman, DIY. This study uses factorial experiments arranged in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two factors and five replications. The first factor was the volume of water spray/day/plant consisting of four volume levels, namely: 50 ml, 100 ml, 150 ml and 200 ml. The second factor was the type of soil consisting of three types of soil, namely : regosol, latosol and grumusol. The results of the research data were analyzed using variance (Analysis of variance) at a real level of 5%. Data that is significantly different is continued with Duncan's multiple distance test or DMRT (Duncan multiple range test) at a real level of 5%. The results showed that there was no good combination of the volume of water and soil type on the growth of Mucuna bracteata. The volume of 50 ml / plant water was sufficient to produce good Mucuna bracteata plant growth. Mucuna bracteata plants can grow in regosol, latosol, and grumusol soil types. Keywords: volume, water, soil type, Mucuna bracteata
