Abstract

This research describes how Advertising Response Modelling (ARM) provides a framework to measure advertising performance by integrating several multiple measuresused in copy research. Several studies found that the use of celebrity endorsers is a popular execution device, but it is not without risk. The author reports the study examininghow the case of negative information about an endorser can affect three variables: attitude toward ads, attitude toward brand, and purchasing intention. The aims of this researchwere to measure the influence of negative traits of endorsers on consumers’ attitude toward the product, the brand, and the purchasing intention. Experimental research design was employed in this study. The participants in this research were students who are studying at Master of Economics Science, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. There were 100 participants out of 113 samples used as participants. Those participants were exposed to a printed advertisement of drinking product “Extra O2” brand. Then, they were also exposed to the case of negative information of the endorsers who have and have no nasty married. After that, the participants were asked to fill in self-administered and structured questionnaire. By using ARM and One-way ANOVA analysis, the research shows that endorsers without divorce problem has influenced positively the audience morethan that of endorser with nasty married. However, there are no significant differences between men and women in responding the advertising with nasty and non-nasty marriedendorsers. Keywords: Advertising Response Modelling (ARM), endorsers with nasty and without nasty married Attitude toward ads, attitude toward brand, and purchasing intention.

Abstract

The current article aims to elaborate on the history of bank policy modifications as a response towards economic and financial change, mainly due to globalisation. The centralstatus of banks in the economy causes a need for the government to protect it in many forms that differ from one country to another. Bank policy makers that are closed oresoteric and are short-lived must be opened up to be able to receive long term ideas. Abstract

In Indonesia, decreasing the forest cover or deforestation in 2000-2005 period had increased up to 1,09 million ha per year, and in Sumatera island alone the deforestationreached 0,27 million ha per year. The primary factors that caused the changes of forest cover in Sumatera are logging, both legal and illegal, and forest conversion for other landuses. This paper used panel data model for eight provinces in Sumatera from 2000 to 2006 to analyze direct causes of changes of forest cover. In the model of changes of forest cover caused by logging, resulted a positive correlation between deforestation and price of timber. These results implied that the rise of timber price made illegal loggers try to get maximum profit in a short time, and it could stimulate illegal logging. In the model of changes of forest cover caused by forest conversion for other land uses, the results showed a positive correlation between deforestation and GDP per capita. The result concludes that the increase of GDP per capita makes consumption for agricultural goods increase, and it can stimulate forest conversion for other land uses.Keywords: forest cover, illegal logging, deforestation, forest conversion

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of dispositional personality and situational cognitive factors on the intention to use the internet. Personality factors were measured by five variables openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. Meanwhile, situational cognitive factors were measured by perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and self-efficacy. Survey was conducted to 323 students of Faculty of Economics, Universitas Bengkulu, include extension and Magister Management students programme. This research uses non-probability sampling procedure with purposive-judgment method. Primary data were gathered using closedquestion form questionnaire. Hypotheses testing were conducted using Partial Least Square with software SmartPLS version 2.0.M3. Results showed that openness to experience, perceived usefulness and self-efficacy significantly affect intention to use internet. Meanwhile, situational cognitive factors were better predictor than personality factors on the intention to use internet. This suggests that the application of information technology acceptance and adoption theory dominantly based on perceptual cognitive factors rather than personality. The current study contributes to higher education managers in terms of how to manage common problems of information system resistance.Keywords: dispositional personality, situational cognitive, Information Technology Acceptance, and Information System.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a relationship between corporate governance practices and credit risk and bond yields. This study takes samplefrom companies that published bonds in 2006.First, we investigate the relationship between corporate governance practices and credit risk. Credit risk (default risk) can be measured by bond ratings (Billings, 1999).Using ordered probit regressions, we find evidence that the quality of transparency and financial information disclosure that proxied by big-4 auditors and audit committee havesignificant influence on bond ratings, but the relationship between block holders and institutional ownership is not significant on bond ratings. Second, we investigate the relationship between corporate governance practice and bond yields. Using multiple regressions, we find that corporate governance practices is not significant on bond yields. Then we put bond ratings in the equation, we find that bond ratings give incremental effect to the evidence. This evidence is consistent to Bradley et.al, (2007), that bond ratings are the prominent determinant for bond yields. Together with the bond ratings, the corporate governance practices (block holders, institutional ownership, big-4 auditors) have significant influence on bond yields.Keywords: bond ratings, bond yields, corporate governance, credit risk, default risk

Abstract

The research is aimed to analyse the strategy of rural tourism development in Kepuharjo, a village in the foot plain of Merapi Volcano. The data were obtained from 140visitors doing activities surrounding Yogyakarta Special Province with structured questionnaire; the data was then analysed using conjoint analysis and analytic hierarchical process.The finding shows that the strategy of rural tourism development of Kepuharjo village is called “saga”. Within this strategy, its urgent aspect is keeping an evergreenenvironment, where the object has to be a conservatory value that almost disappears of environmental change. Besides, it must enrich the attractions, improve quality of amenities and get better of accessibilities. The implication of the finding, sustainable development of rural tourism of Kepuharjo Village, should use both an eco-economy way (designed to mesh with Earth's ecosystem instead of disrupting and destroying it) and an eco-culture work (to respects the traditional knowledge of existence and supports local materials and biodiversity) simultaneously.Keywords: strategy, rural tourism development, eco-economy, eco-culture.
