Journal of Regional and City Planning or JRCP is an open access journal mainly focusing on urban and regional studies and planning in transitional, developing and emerging economies. JRCP covers topics related to the analysis, sciences, development, intervention, and design of communities, cities, and regions including their physical, spatial, technological, economic, social and political environments. The journal is committed to create a multidisciplinary forum in the field by seeking original paper submissions from planners, architects, geographers, economists, sociologists, humanists, political scientists, environmentalists, engineers and other who are interested in the history, transformation and future of cities and regions in transitional, developing and emerging economies.

Abstract

Jakarta Metropolitan Area, which has more than 20 million inhabitants, should be supported by mass rapid transit system. The Master Plan for MRT development had been initiated more than 20 years ago; since then various studies and plans have been done as well. However, the MET system has not been materialized. One of the reasons is the government's limited fund This paper proposes an alternative financing scheme to develop the MRT system, for the government to give concession to private sector for funding and managing development of both MRT and land use along the MART corridor.

Abstract

The products for market in urban tourism are heterogeneous; they range from products that show socio-economic diversity attractions, which is intangible to products such as souvenirs and historical artifacts as objects, which are tangible attractions. It is important to develop, products that can simultaneously offer the tangible and the intangible attractions to serve the market. . City sightseeing tour is one tourism products that linked the intangible and tangible attractions in one transportation route, therefore it enables tourists to choose objects and attractions they like to experience within their tight time/schedule. As a planning product, the city sightseeing route in Jakarta, is developed based on two approaches: Tourism Business District and Participatory. Tourism Business District Approach is chosen as it is optimize the utilization of all urban assets for public and tourism needs while the Participatory Approach may absorb the aspirations of stake holders . With those two approaches u is desired that the policy recommendations and/or the tourism activities for the city sightseeing route achieve the optimum outcomes.

Abstract

Two-stroke three wheelers are playing a big role in transporting people especially the commuters in Khulna City. These so-called baby-taxies are very popular mode of transportation in most of big cities in Bangladesh because of low maintenance costs and low travel costs. However, these vehicles caused severe air pollution and congestion in the city. As a result Dhaka (the capital of Bangladesh) banned these vehicles for operating In its area from January 1, 2003 to allow clean air and avoid traffic congestion to some extent. Afterwards, many people lost their jobs and the vehicles remained useless for the capital city. The baby-taxi owners from other cities of Bangladesh showed their interests to bring them in their own areas with a minimum cost so that they can explore some new routes and can offer some new jobs as well. This study attempted to explore the reasons of concentrating these vehicles in Khulna City and the new impacts in the city area in regards to city environment. Primary data base has been used here to show the numbers of vehicles and to show the newly explored routes in map. Finally the paper concludes with some problems that can be further studied for minimizing the possible upcoming threats in the city's environment.

Abstract

In a number of problem domains there is an increasing interest in exploring flow data, which is defined as data that captures movement between places on a given network, including most branch of engineering, transportation, telecommunication, social system, and economic geography;.. However, the current state of the art in exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA,); which is largely dominated by geo-statistical and lattice data analysis, lack techniques and methodologies for the exploration of flow data. Although the general underlying concepts are largely the same, flow data requires a different set of specific methods for data exploration. In this paper I extend the methods of spatial stat is tic for identifying spatial clusters and outliers to work with flow data, and demonstrate the methods to detect spatial error dependence and heteroskedasticity  in the error term of spatial interaction models.

Abstract

This paper presents a new methodology for route based on fuzzy preference relations. The core of the model is FiPV (fuzzy-individualle Praeferenzen von Verkehrstilnehmern or fuzzy traveler preferences) , that is an adjustment of Orlovsky's fuzzy choice function for travel decisions. The proposed model is the first application of fuzzy individual (preference-based) choice in travel demand modeling and also the first in this class to consider spatial knowledge of individual travelers in route choice. It is argued that travelers do not or cannot always follow perfect maximization principle. We formulate therefore a model that also takes into account the travelers with non-perfect  maximizing behavior. Although the model is not yet supported by empirical evidence, it shows a more transparent structure than those of/he Conventional dynamic route Choice models.

Abstract

The development of information technology offers various capabilities for us to exchange information more effectively and cheaper. This article discusses the development of planning catalog, i.e. a site in Internet where we can get access to various sources of planning information which are spread geographically and institutionally .The application of a catalog model that has succeeded in spreading the geographical information has become an alternative for information exchange among the governmental agencies and between the government and the general public.
