Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze the present status of agritourism development in Sri Lanka including issues and challenges of the sector. The study was based on a survey of agritourism operators in the country. Results revealed that only fifteen agritourism places are functioning currently with general services and facilities. Many destinations are operated by private companies and outside investors. Number of visitors and length of stay are at lower in many destinations. Further, there are several issues and challenges of the sector. Small size of the farm lands, lack of necessary skills, poor level of product development, poor publicity and promotion are important factors. While low numbers of visitors, environmental pollution, infrastructure development, are the common challenges for all the operators, monopoly of tour operators and political influence are the challenges for some operators including farmers those who conduct agritourism. Government intervention is essential to promote agritourism sector among the farming community of the country.

Abstract

In this paper the author discusses hospitality in the form of farm tourism, and uses the basics of systems theory to identify the various stakeholders involved in farm tourism. The main factors that are identified that have relevance to farm tourism are those that can be grouped under the following headings: physical, competitive, demographic and socio-cultural, economic, technological and politico-legal influences; together with the inputs (supply) of farm tourism, composed mainly of farmers; and the output (demand) side of the model, which comprises the services provided to guests, and the experiences guests have when visiting farms. This information is then used to create a model which is essentially a review of contemporary understanding of farm tourism, and to briefly discuss the various influences in the model, as well as their interrelationships.

Abstract

Medical Tourism was coined when people started looking for cost-effective treatments internationally. The success of this industry depends on the collaboration between private medical care providers and the tourism industry that focused on patients seeking critical and complex surgeries and other forms of specialized treatment. The main objective of this paper is to examine the perspectives of different stakeholders to position India as a global healthcare and medical tourism destination.Grounded theory was chosen as the main research methodology. Grounded theory is a systematic, inductive approach to help understand complex social processes. The main motivation that encouraged this choice is the ability of grounded theory to handle the emergence of problems identified by participants in a study. The principal data collection method was interview of likely stakeholders in the medical tourism industry in India. Using the constant comparison technique, data from interviews were coded and grouped into similar categories to identify patterns.This study highlighted the importance of branding in positioning India as a medical hub and the importance of public-private partnerships in exploring the emerging avenues in healthcare tourism. The research results will also help in gaining some valuable insights which will help all the interest groups and beneficiaries to make maximum advantage of healthcare travel.

Abstract

Human civilization and non-renewability in the historic buildings determine the great value and the importance of protection. How to protect and remedy the historic buildings is the key of protecting the urban cultural context, especially keep the specific historic features. There are two principles of minimal intervention and maximum authenticity of their historical information. Based on the practice of the Qing-an and An-lan Hall Projection, the technologies and methods of protecting the historic buildings were discussed, including two aspects: carpentry engineering and masonry engineering. These measurements constitute to similar projects in the southeastern region of China.

Abstract

A city can be a place for productive tourism places. Bandung, for example, has become a tourists' city and especially benefited from weekend visitors from Jakarta. Visitors in the city are offered attractions for leisure and consumption. The city's attractions are dominated by heritages: from pattern of street layout to the existence of a distinctive architecture, to the variety of activities to create the city itself as a visitors' experience. These conditions need a deliberate attempt to create the city as multicultural places of consumption for both retail and tourism as part of urban cultural management. This paper examines the creation of the city as a tourism destination. It is argued that changes to the process of capital accumulation in many cities have led to the commodification of place at a local level. Part of this process has been the creation of heritage as a tangible asset and this is linked to changing patterns of consumer retail activity. This paper argued that tourism should not be conceptualized as a distinct activity but rather as a form of consumption in the context of both local and global changes.
