Abstract

People seem to be more powerfully driven to talk than to listen. Listening rather than talking is a major concept in managerial communication. In accomplishing his/her job, a manager is expected to develop his/her listening skill more than his/her speaking skill. By building good listening habits and exercising active listening, he/she can improve communication effectiveness and raise subordinates‘ self-respect and efficacy as well.  In fact, the person can also become a pioneer of listening climate  practice  in  the  organization.  This  article  is  a  critical review of the literature related to the nature, significance, and performance of effective and active listening in managerial communication.

Abstract

Media coverage of terrorism has tendency of bias because both media and terrorists take advantages in the relationship. Media benefit much from the news value of the striking acts of terror that spark fear and anger at the same time. The terrorists win free publication of their actions in achieving their goals. Therefore the credibility of the news media should be built upon the ethical journalism practice to eliminate the bias. This article proposed a theoretical and practical foundation for implementing ethical journalism in covering terrorism. Journalists should comply with a new principle of objectivity in reporting terrorism. As the society needs accurate information about events around them, news media should be able to provide ―first  aid‖  package of information, so that members of the society can act rationally and be calm during the tense situation. Ethical journalism with a renewed standard of objectivity could keep the first aid of information constantly flowing to the society facing fear and danger of terrorism.

Abstract

Social media is a phenomenon in communication which is being most- discussed nowadays because social media phenomenon brings many great changes  and implications both in terms of how we communicate and the values related to communication, for example from the perspective of ethics. Benny Handoko‘s case shows how we need to use social media wisely so we are no longer entangled with a legal case. With the presence of UU ITE– Information  and  Electronic  Transaction  Regulation,  as  a  communication policy is expected to answer the need to facilitate the process of interactive media system, especially in the process of transactions using electronic data. However UU ITE itself gains criticism because of the overlap of the article of defamation characterin KUHP which eventually makes the guilty person gets more punishment; six years in jail or a fine of one billion Rupiah. This paper discusses the case of Benny Handoko‗s twitter from an ethics perspective in communication and communication policy.
