Abstract

The use of natural fibers as a reinforcement material in clay becomes an alternative choice of materials widely used in the early decades of soil improvement techniques. This practice is to improve soil strength and resistance to cracks. This preliminary practice was done because the cost of procurement is relatively low cost and also available in almost all areas of Indonesia. Modification of the use of natural fiber with other materials such as synthetic fiber materials has begun to do a lot at this time. The objectives of this research are: (1) Analyzing the physical and mechanical of soft soil mineralogy characteristics, (2) Analyzing the soft soil mechanical behavior by reinforcing  the Palm oil  fiber  (POF) of  the empty fruit bunch of palm oil whether it can increase soft soil capacity, (3) shrinkage and crack intensity factor (CIF) of soft soil in wet-dry cycles. The results showed that the addition of natural fiber on soft soil tends to reduce the level of soil density and increase the water content of the soil, although not too large. The effect is only about max 2.35% on 2% fiber content. While the swelling potential and shrinkageof the soils can be reduced by fiber reinforcement. In the crack potential test showed a substantial reduction of  crack intensity factor, whereas the addition of fibers in the soft soil can reduce cracks up to 444%. This shows that the fiber-soil has great ability in resisting the tensile strength of the soil-fiber interface due to the adhesion properties so that the soil is not easily cracked

Abstract

Central Sulawesi is one of the six locations which determined as the economic growth corridor. It shows that infrastructure development is the main priority of this province. Mutiara SIS Aljufri Airport Palu is one of the several developed infrastructure in this region. The reason for this, the existency of transportation services is positively correlated to the economic and community development. Therefore, the government of Palu and the management of Mutiara SIS Aljufri Airport Palu agreed to improve the level of Mutiara SIS Aljufri Airport Palu as an international airport. This study aims to determine the developing investment of Mutiara Airport SIS Aljufri Palu. In addition, this study apply several analysis methods, such as, NPV, IRR and Profitability Index (PI) method. The result shows that the investment in the Mutiara SIS Aljufri Airport Palu is feasible based on the method of Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Profitability Index (PI) analysis. This investmental so provides enhanced services for users and air transport service providers. Based on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant 2000 prices in Quarter III (2014), the economic growth of Central Sulawesi Province increase compare to the the same quarter in previous year (2013). The proportion of economic growth is 6.58 % (y-on-y).

Abstract

Beach damage is a serious problem which requires prompt action from the government. Adding more sediment to the beach (beach nourishment) is one of the efforts to cope with the problem. However, the sediment filled is usually carried away by the wave, which consequently brings maintenance costs for dealing with the sandpile during certain periods, as well as the need for large volume of excavation. One of the alternatives to reduce the loss of the sediment pile is by constructing off-shore submerged structure with the crest of the structure is set submerged and made from geotube. The objective of this study was to identify the influence of wave steepness to the beach profile formed behind the structure. The physical model test was carried out to the sand of Tanjung Ann beach (d50=1.47 mm) under two conditions: without the submerged structure and with the geotube submerged structure within wave period (1; 1.2; 1.4; 1.6; and 1.8 second), wave height (6,7,8,9,10,12,14, and 16 cm). The laboratory scale (small scale) was used. Model was placed in the wave channel with initial profile slope of 1:6 and was subject to constant regular wave until the beach profile balance was achieved. Results of this study showed that the beach profile slope was formed behind the geotube submerged structure and grouped into two zones: the swash zone and the breaking zone. The swash zone was where the highest run up and the lowest run down occurred and the breaking zone is where the Dean’s formula applied. The influence of wave steepness (increasing Ho/Lo) was the increasing setback of the beach profile behind the geotube submerged structure. It would give benefit when the H0/L0 ≤ 0.068 for constant structure height.

Abstract

This paper is an investigation of high natural frequency long-spanlightweigtht floor subjected to dynamic  footfall loading of human activities. This study was carried out to examine the vibration response of the high natural frequency long-span lightweight floor, when harmonic response analysis was applied. Acceleration root mean square (RMS) was used as a method to determine the vibration response of the high natural frequency long-span floor model. The parametric studies of natural frequency of 7 up to 20 Hz and damping ratio of 0.5% and 2% were employed to investigate the response of the model.Increasing damping ratio of the model was found to have a significant effect on reducing acceleration RMS. However, increasing natural frequency of the high natural frequency long-span lightweight floor model demonstrated to have an insensitive influence on the acceleration RMS.

Abstract

Characteristics of roads in Central Sulawesi at some point are an area of frequent landslides. The road segment in question, including the section 005 and section 006 which is a national road linking the province of Central Sulawesi and Gorontalo province. The link conditions that have often suffered landslides have disrupted access to transport and causing high transportation costs. This study aims to determine the geometry of the sliding plane at KM 509 and KM 513 using the method of geoelectric resistivity Wenner configuration with a path length measurement of 300 m and 5 m electrode spacing. The results of the study at two locations and modeling shows the layering structure resistivity value of which is at 100 Ωm - 300 Ωm and modeling results of  2-D geoelectric cross-section shows the sliding plane ground motion varies between 5 to 15 m. Value of resistance and sectional sliding obtained indicate that the location is vulnerable to landslides, and requires a comprehensive treatment to prevent landslides.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the availability of water and determine farming patterns planning for aggriculture. Research process begin from collecting data then conducting hidrology analysis to know if  the water is sufficient to meet the water needs in fungsional field and planning the suitable farming patterns. To determine the ratio between the need and the availability of water, in this case for aggriculture sector, the analysis of hydrology and the calculation of water requirement on the paddy field were done. There are some methods which can be used: Penman’s Method modification, used to calculating the value of the evapotranspiration by considering the related meteorological factors such as the air temperature, humidity, wind speed, and sun radiation. By using F.J. Mock Method, the amount of water flow obtained from rain’s data, characteristics of hydrology flow area, and evapotranspiration can be calculated. According to the results of data analyzing with 46.642 km2 catchments area, show that  availability of water in Poboya’s Irrigation field in the middle of January is 0,038 m3/sec meanwhile water requirement is 0,0078  m3/sec. From the result it can be concluded that water supply in Poboya’s Irrigation is enough to fullfill the needs of water on t he functional area, as well as by a farming pattern plans of Rice – Rice – Palawija

Abstract

The placement of median opening (U Turn) and the distance of inter median opening at several road in Palu city were indicated that it does not meet technical requirement so it can put the road user in dangerous situation which when the traffic flowing on the road grow higher then the risk of traffic accident will rise too. Moreover, the placement of median opening was indicated as an access road where as a place for specific activity beside the road. The existence of Garuda-Abd. Rahman Saleh as a T intersection also made an impact to the degree of saturation of certain road segment. The method that used to solve this study is based on the survey to collect the primary and secondary data MKJI 97 and median standard design analysis. The result shows that all of the placement median opening at several urban road links was not appropriate to the requirement standard then it needs reposition or any repairmen.
