Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of strain (vertical and horizontal directions) in analyzing the static loading stress on the aluminum rod. Research use aluminum rod with dimensions of 110 cm long and 30 cm, height 32.8 mm and 1.2 mm thick, two strain gage to the vertical direction and two for the horizontal direction. Giving the load from 500 grams to 10,000 grams is done. Results show that areas closed to vertical support (T2 = 26647375.311) has very high voltage compared to area in the middle (T1 = 2628679.465). Whereas, for the horizontal direction shows that the area near the support (T2 = 2629098.313) is much greater than in the middle pedestal (T1 =2659709.133).

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the utility profile of laboratory as the facility of student’s practical work in Automotive department, Engineering Faculty, Makassar State University. This research is a descriptive research. The population is the students of Automotive department in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 Makassar State University. Sampling is taken randomly in amount of 70 people. The research variable data is collected by using questioner. The collected data is processed by using descriptive analysis with percentage. The output showed that the variable utility profile of laboratory with 3 sub variable, such as: 1). Utility pattern of devices and materials is in effective category of 67,4%, 2). Room layout pattern is in effective category of 61,4%, 3). Tutorial pattern of practical work lecturer is in effective category of 66,4%. After doing data analysis generally from the three aspects is obtained 66,01% or approriate with effective category.

Abstract

Usage of type alcohol of etanol in gasoline fuel proves a number of machine achievements in terms of parameters, namely actual horsepower, specific fuel consumption, mean effective pressure and thermal efficiency compared to use pure premium fuel. Level of such repair gyrate 73% from maximum energy according to machine specification. In yielding etanol, fermentation process with yeast mixture then destiltaion. Etanol mixed with premium with certain ratio. In this research, variation of mixing of alcohol premium, namely: 95%+5%; 90%+10% and 85%+15% by 3 variation  throttle opening: 20%, 40% and 60%. The result indicates that with usage of concentration mixing of premium + etanol, reached actual horsepower by Kijang machine 7k experiencing with maximum value equal to 17,347 kW that happened at condition of opening of throttle 60% at rotation 2100 rpm with usage of mixing 95% premium + 5% etanol. With usage of concentration mixing of premium + etanol, specific fuel consumption also experience with maximum value equal to 0,331 kg/ kWh that happened at condition of throttle opening by 20% within rotation of 2100 rpm with usage of mixing 90% premium + 10% etanol.

Abstract

Natural fibres as reiforcement of composite have been concerning in the last decade. These have changed in use convestional fibre like glass fibre and carbon fibre related to environmental effect. One of natural fibres can potensially change conventional fibre is coir fibre. This fibre is abundant in tropical areas such as India, Brazil and Indonesia. In this paper, an overview of aplication of coir fibre as reinforced composite in some uses was described.

Abstract

This research is aimed to understand the effect of length-embedded fibres to interfacial shear strength on epoxy resin composite reinforced “melinjo” stem fibres. Pull-out testing was performed with variation of length-embedded fibres including 1 mm, 3mm, and 5mm. Prior to pull-out testing, fibres were treated with boiling with water media and 5% NaOH media. The results showed that fibres with surface treatment using boiling of 5%NaoH have higher interfacial fibre shear strength, but fibres without surface treatment have lower interfacial fibre shear strength. For length - embedded fibre, the highest  interfacial fibre shear strength were obtained on the length-embedded fibre respectively from 1 mm, then 3 mm and 5mm.

Abstract

This study aimed to obtain the influence of the mass flow rate of heat transfer coefficient on average that occurs in the capillary tube and the relationship between mass flow with heat transfer coefficient on average in the capillary tube. This research was conducted at the University Engineering Laboratory Cooling Tadulako. Test methods used in the study is testing them experimentally. Data were collected by taking a direct test data on test equipment. Data were analyzed theoretically based on the experimental test data. The results of this study, namely that the refrigerant mass flow rate affect the heat transfer coefficient on average that occurs in the capillary tube is in the form of equation (see full text)

Abstract

Background of this investigation is reasoned by fuel consumptions focusing on oil and gas which they are limited resource energy and its cost rising any time. On the other side,  available of biomass energy  is still overflow and within renewable resources. This research investigates thermal characteristic’s of cacao char briquette that consists of High Heating Value (HHV), Volatile Matters (VM), Moisture (M), Ash (A), thermal efficiency and emission gas of real combustions on briquette stove. The result of investigations are; HHV=6308.207 kcal/kg, VM=58,75%, M=3.27%,A=23.53%, FC= 25.55%, maximum thermal efficiency is 35.67% and emissions gas consist of CO and CO2 are  safe of  human being according to WHO Standard.
