Journal of Aquatropica Asia (JoAA) is an open access scientific periodical managed by the Department of Aquaculture, Bangka Belitung University. JoAA Journal involvement is carried out 2 (two) times a year, namely in July and December in the form of the main manuscript is an article that contains the results of research (research articles). Other manuscript contributions can be in the form of short articles (short communication), articles review, and also special issues. Articles received will be reviewed by reviewers managed by the Editor in Chief before the manuscript is accepted and approved for publication in JoAA. The Journal of Aquatropica Asia (JoAA) accepts articles written in Indonesian or English with regard to aquaculture studies and aquatic ecology in the broadest sense covering aspects of reproduction, nutrition and feed, genetics, physiology, morphology, health of aquatic organisms, water quality, plankton, conservation, and other aspects relevant to the field of aquaculture.

Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the effect of container use and aeration on marbled goby's growth and survival. Evaluate aerated containers and optimal containers in the marbled goby culture, which are expected to increase their growth and survival. This study uses the experimental method Complete Complete Random Design with six handling and three replications. The treatment given is on the transparent container with aeration (A), transparent containers without aeration (B), black containers with aeration (C), black containers without aeration (D), blue containers with aeration (E), blue containers without aeration (F). This research was conducted in March - April 2018 in the Aquaculture Laboratory, Bangka Belitung University. The main parameters measured were the growth and survival of marbled goby seeds. The results showed that the culture on a different color of the containers and aeration system did not affect the growth and survival of marbled goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata) size of fish seed 11 – 15 cm fish density of 4 fish in each treatment.

Abstract

The reduction of dependency on the consumption of giant prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) from river catchments has essential significance for its natural sustainability. Artificial prawn reproduction gives benefits to the economy and the environment. Applicable maturation technology is needed to facilitate community participation in cultivating giant prawns. The increasing level of gonad maturity (TKG) in this study uses different natural feed in the form of golden snails, earthworms, and squid. Observation of giant prawn maturity was carried out using macroscopic morphological characteristics on the dorsal cephalothorax. All treatments were able to increase TKG from level 2 to level 3 for 30 days of treatment with golden snail intake, giving the fastest increase (7.33 ± 1.1 days) and followed by squid (11.3 ± 2 days) and earthworms (17.67 ± 2 days). Growth of giant prawns with golden snail, earthworm, and squid feed is 1.2, -4.33, -0.83 for weights and 1.03, 0.4, and 0.53 for length. The three natural foods can be utilized for the maturation of giant prawn gonads, but it is necessary to add a source of carbohydrates as energy intake.

Abstract

Ornamental fish have a good potential to develop in Indonesia. Seluang (Rasbora enthovenii) is an endemic fish in the waters of Bangka Belitung. The factor that affects the survival rate and growth is pH. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of pH on survival rate and growth. The research has been done in October and November 2017. The experimental design used in the study was a randomized complete design (RAL) with 4 treatments and 3 replicated. The result of pH variance affects the survival rate. Based on the Duncan test, the treatment of pH 6,0 - 6,5 has a significant effect on the survival rate. The results of the Duncan test for all treatments don't have a significant effect on growth. The conclusion of the research is pH 6,0 - 6,5 gives the optimum effect for survival rate, on 96,66 ± 0,57%. All treatments don't have a significant effect on growth (P> 0.05).

Abstract

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is populer as resistant fish to environmental changes. Cultivating fish with a high stocking density can cause a decrease in water quality. It has an impact on susceptibility to disease due to decreased water quality. Immunostimulants from Phyto-pharmacy are needed to improve the non-specific immune system of fish from natural ingredients. Bay leaves (Syzigium polyanthum) have the potential to be used as an immunostimulant in fish. This study aimed to evaluate the extract of Salam leaves fortified in feed against the blood profile of Tilapia. The research was carried out in April - May 2018 using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. Salam leaf extract through feed affects the increase of leucocytes and blood erythrocytes of tilapia but does not affect hemoglobin levels and hematocrit levels. Doses of 2x10-2 g mL-1 increased fish blood leukocytes on day 21st to be the best treatment in this study.

Abstract

The aimed of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of java long pepper extract in the increasing of the percentage of males nile tilapia. The design of experiment was completely randomized design with 5 treatments i.e : A (negative control), B (1,99 mg L-1), C (3,99 mg L-1), D (5,99 mg L-1) and positive control (20 mg L-1 17α-metiltestosteron) with three replicates per level of treatment. Immersion of 10-day-old larvae for 24 hours with 50 larvae in 10 L medium of treatments and cultivated for 60 days and identification of gender using the acetocarmin method. The results showed that java long pepper extract was effective to increase the percentage of males with dose of 1,99 mg L-1 (81,78±6,81%), 3,99 mg L-1 (79,00±2,99%) and 5,99 mg L-1 (87,42±4,85%) while the negative control 39,23±7,74%. Java long pepper extract dose of 5,99 mg L-1 were not significantly different with the treatment of 17α-metiltestosteron i.e : 91,71±3,93%. Percentage of survival rate 47.33±3.06% to 53.33±8.08%, specific growth rate 3,14±0,15% to 3,40±0,08%, absolute weight growth 1.97±0.59 g to 3.07±0.38 g and absolute length growth of 3.73±0.55 cm to 3.95±0.16 cm. Java long pepper extract gives a significant effects to the spesific growth rate and absolute weight growth. Treatment A, B, C, D and E had no effect on survival rate and the absolute length growth of nile tilapia during 60 days cultivation period.
