Abstract

This paper aims to examine and assess the position of Islam as al-Din or religion for Malay Muslim community in Singapore. By using primary and secondary sources in the field of Islamic thought, the main and primary issues faced Malay Moslem society from various ranks, as well as internal, external and et cetera in addition to studying the methods and approaches applied by MUIS (Majelis Ugama Islam Singapore) specifically as the Islamic supreme and organization in the republic to solve the problems that arise in society since the first. The result of the study showed that Islam in Singapore is ASWJ (Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah), as any other country in the overseas, but rather obvious distinction is due to the nature and attitude of openness and positiveness shown by Malay Muslim society in accepting diversity and different forms and thoughts. In summary, they are united in the difference “agree to disagree.”

Abstract

Using a corpus of 300 film flyers issued between 1966 and 1998, this article examines how Islam was depicted in advertisements for Indonesian films under the Suharto government. It finds that, although explicit symbols of Islamic religiosity were generally not included in film flyers, such depictions could still be found, both in flyers for films intended to preach Islamic values as well as in flyers for films with more general themes. Markers of Islam identified include turbans, skullcaps, headscarves, language, the Qur'an, prayers, prayer beads, mosques, and the Kaaba, all of which were used to portray an Islamic identity that was in some ways highly normative while in other ways quite diverse. Though these flyers tempered the exclusivity of Islamic identity, they are also indicative of the religion's special position in contemporary Indonesian popular discourse. The use of these markers, thus, underscores the dynamicity and fluidity of discourse on Islamic identity in Suharto-era Indonesia and emphasizes the need to recognize the contributions of popular culture to national discourse of identity, religious or otherwise.

Abstract

Drugs are often associated with intoxicants. In the context of fiqih drugs usually dikiaskan to prohibition of wine. However, in line with the development of contemporary medical science, the works of the new fiqh also mention and emphasize that the effects of damage also have its own influence in relation to drug law. This study aims to explore and analyze the trends of contemporary jurisprudence works in explaining their backs in relating the status of Sharia law values to drug abuse. This study uses qualitative methods. The data obtained from these works were analyzed and made comparisons. A number of 10 contemporary works that discuss drug law and the reasons for its prohibition have been used in this study. The study concluded that the works agreed that drug abuse is haram according to the Shari'a. All activities related to drug abuse such as planting, processing, owning, buying or selling permits used to cooperate with its misuse are haram. Likewise, in terms of its proofing proposition, all works tend to see it is based on the kias to the wine based on the argument that drugs are potentially intoxicating. The works only mention the destructive aspect without emphasizing it as an important basis for the prohibition of drug abuse. This is certainly not in accordance with the reality of the threat of drugs that not only grab the function of the intellect alone, even damaging the five-five main objectives of Islamic law, namely religion, life, intellect, descent and wealth. Hence the affirmation of the restrictive section needs to be emphasized in an effort to ensure fair drug abuse is prevented and handled more seriously in order to ensure the well-being of the ummah is maintained.

Abstract

Da'wah is a call to believe in Allah SWT, dakwah is not a special task to a particular person but to all Moslems. In delivering da'wah required various methods and strategies in order the message of da'wah is accepted to the mad'unya. At the time of Rasulullah SAW, the method of dakwah used to non-Muslims in Medina was da'wah through writing (Da'wah bil Al-Qalam). He sent messengers, who carried Islamic invitations which addressed to Heraclius (Roman Emperors), King Negus (Ruler of Ethiopia), Khusrau (Persian Ruler), and other great leaders. This is motivated by the Hudaibiyah Peace Agreement, political and theological. The contents of the Prophet's message of propaganda send to the kings was amazing, always preceded by Basmalah, some letters also include verses of the Qur'an. The composition of the sentence in the letter of the Prophet SAW always preceded the phrase "From Muhammad, the servant of Allah, and his messenger", then mention the name of the king who became the object and mention his position and power. The message by Rasulullah SAW gives persuasive value to invite kings to embrace Islam. Besides writing method Rasulullah SAW delivered dakwah to the non-Muslims in Medina was lack of coercion in embracing Islam, equality, fairness, honesty, rahmah and goodness.

Abstract

When tafseer has not become a separate science, then one of the functions of the Messenger of Allah is being in the midst of companions is to clarify the meaning of the Qur'anic verse that is indeed necessary to explain. There are at least two patterns of tafsir development at that time, the first, companions r.a. were reading and listening to the Quran then they understood the laws, second, Messenger of Allah explained the meaning of the Qur'anic verse accordance with the thinking capacity of the Companions. According to some experts, meodel interpretation of the Messenger of Allah. in answering the questions of the Companions-radliyallahuanhum-in those days have not been written. However, at the end of the life of the Messenger of Allah. has begun to be written down. The testimonies of the Messenger of Allah which were not written was feared that would be mixed among the Koran, the hadith and others. This study attempted to understand the rules of exegesis of Muhammad Ash Shabuni in his commentary Rawa'iu al-Bayan fi Tasair Ayat al-Ahkam min Al-Qur'an. By using the literature study approach, this study in addition to revealing the method of interpretation, also describes the findings and contributions of thought that became one of the references in the science of exegesis.
