Abstract

Photography as media of communication has become more and more popular today. The existence of photography has now entered sensual domain which is done in the name of art. This type of photography is known as “nude photography”. Nude photography is a photography technique which is full of lighting trick to show up the artistic side of human bodies, especially women. This kind of art has become commodity and changed into a masterpiece which has high value. Then women are forced to follow the beauty standard which is defined by men to avoid discrimination by the society. . This paper tries to correlate the relationship between body exploitation and art by referring to the concept of feminism which proves that there are inequities between men and women. Nude photography has violated ethics by showing off the vulgarity of each woamn body part. Women’s bodies, in fact, always become an endless discussion. This kind of exploitation cannot be minimized if there are many misuses in the name of art in patriarchal culture. The question is what women should do in order to save themselves from exploitation. Keywords: Nude photography, Exploitation of woman’s body, Art

Abstract

Community radio movement could be considered as media of resistance / counter hegemony. However, in fact, some community radios are far from expectations. Two community radio stations in Yogyakarta, which are Panaganti Radio in Terban and Angkringan Radio in Timbulhardjo, are not able to become media of resistance (Eddyono, 2011). Radio fails because government rules are too restrictive towards community radio. As a result, community radio cannot solve its own internal problems in order to survive for a long period. Moreover, this research could not get an answer about the role of Jaringan Radio Komunitas Indonesia (Indonesian Community Radio Network) in making a series of strategies to save the existence of community radio under its network, including Angkringan Radio and Panaganti Radio. This study used qualitative research and adopted Gramsci’s perspective on social movements and organic intellectual to understand the strategies which are used by JRKI to save the existence of community radio. As a result, JRKI strategies still have many weaknesses. JRKI is running out of energy in saving the existence of community radio. Abstract

The object of this paper is the social condition of domestic digital music. The background of this paper is based on the global data that thirty billion songs are downloaded illegally in the period of 2004-2009, with a loss of $17-40 billion. Illegal music downloading is also occurred in Indonesia. Based on the survey of non-governmental organization, Heal Our Music, it was found that there are 7.920.944 illegal downloads of digital music in Indonesia each day. That number means every second there are 92 illegal downloads. Thus, the author mapped three points of the discussion which are the reality of domestic piracy, supporting the copyright of music creative industry, and literacy for music lovers. The conclusion of this paper is that the copyright laws are still inadequate. The government have to provide technical systems to download music legally and cheaply for music lovers. Abstract

Community radio is basically unique media of communication which is viewed from how it was established, its operational management and its programs which are to build the society around it. Community radio is participatory media. It means community radio provides public sphere through horizontal communication among its members. Thus, it is seen as fertile ground for developing civic community whose members have an interest in discussing common problems in the same position that binds them together through collective association in civic values. It shows that in the beginning, the operational management followed the basic rules and the ideal principles. Unfortunately, the management of Mustika is more like daily broadcasting principles which are similar to private radios. Keywords: Community Radio, Radio Management, Participatory Media

Abstract

This discussion aims to see how exploitation has happened towards women through and by the media in the 21st century, which is controlled by the capitalists, and its relationship with the 2nd sila (principle) of Pancasila. This discussion tries to analyze by observing the figure of “cewek kece” (hot chicks) as the ideal female figure in the 21st century on television. The results of the analysis proved that the exploitation of women’s bodies has happened through and by the media, especially television. It is in the form of commodification of “cewek kece”, symbolic violence, and the pressure towards women to have slim bodies. For the results of this analysis, when it is associated with the 2nd sila of Pancasila, it indicates that there is an incompatibility between the exploitation of women’s bodies and the values and teachings of Pancasila as the foundation of national identity. Keywords: cewe kece, exploitation, commodification, the 2nd sila of Pancasila
