Forum Geografi, Indonesian Journal of Spatial and Regional Analysis (For. Geo) is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that will consider any original scientific article for expanding the field of geography. The journal publishes articles in both physical and human geography specialties of interest to spatial analysis and regional analysis in (but not limited) Indonesia by applying GIS and/or remote sensing techniques.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to understand the mineralogical characteristics of the bentonite and its upper developed soil, at Nanggulan Kulonprogo. Separation and collection of clay fraction were done by fractionation on suspension at pH 10 after organic matter was oxidized using H2O2. Characteristics of clay mineral was analyzed using X-ray diffraction on parallel oriented samples after Mg saturation, glycerol solvation, or K saturation, and its following successive heating at 100°C, 300°C and 550°C. Cation exchange capacity (CEC) and the exchangeable bases were analyzed using saturation of NH4OAc 1N pH 7. Results showed that clay materials of both samples were Ca-bentonite. Comparing with clay from soil, bentonite had peak intensity of the semctite minerals and low value of CEC and exchangeable Ca. Potassium saturation caused incompletely shrinkage of the studied smectite minerals, and it was reflected by a broader peaks at 13,11 Å. The presence of these broader peaks was interpreted as a growth of interlayer materials that it may alter to smectite-chlorite intergrade minerals.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Yogyakarta-Surakarta Corridor aiming at analyzing the impacts of regional transformation on the cultural life of the citizens. Method applied in this research is based on the survey technique, with 120 household has been taken as the sample. Sampling technique based on stratified random sampling has been implemented in 4 villages that represent different degrees of accessibility, namely: Maguwoharjo Village-Sleman Regency (very high accessibility), Sumopuro Village-Klaten Regency (high accessibility), Danguran Village-Klaten Regency (medium accessibility), and Jatirejo Village-Boyolali Regency (low accessibility). Analysis technique is taken based on the descriptive quantitative analysis. The findings of this study show us that regional transformation has impacts on citizens cultural condition in the forms of some changes in traditional practices of dealing with pregnancy, birth, transition from childhood to adult life, marriage, and death, from complex practices to simpler ones. In the geographical perspective, this research also reveal the spatial variation (based on the 4 type of the village that represent different degrees of accessibility) from the impact of regional transformation on the cultural life of the citizens.

Abstract

The objectives of research are: to evaluate land suitability for housing based on soil characteristics; and to propose policy on the sustainable housing development in Bandung and West Land Bandung District. The method used in the spatial analysis is descriptive method based on several i.e. on data description of a case, circumstances, attitudes, relationships or a system of thought that became the object of research. The result of research as follows: 41.76% at fine zone residential lands, 44.81% at moderate zone residential good lands. Result of analysis give alternatives policies as set up the standardization the building coverage ratio, limited the conservation area to residential lands and others, increasing the conservation funding for decreasing natural accident disaster as flood, landslides etc.

Abstract

In this study, direct risk assessment was developed for various scenarios on the basis of hazard (e.g. spatial probability, temporal probability and magnitude class), vulnerability and estimating cost of road damage. Indirect risk assessment was derived from traffic interruption. The impact of landslide both direct and indirect impact were analyzed in the road segment 174. The research results show the highest direct impact of debris slide type of magnitude I located in the 20th mapping unit. The lowest direct impact of debris slide type of magnitude I can be founded in the 18th mapping unit. The direct impact of rock fall type of magnitude I which is located in the 6th mapping unit. Meanwhile, indirect impact which was caused by road blockage is Rp. 4,593,607.20 and Rp. 4,692,794.40 by using network analysis and community perception methods respectively. After class classification, road segment 174 is dominated by very low hazard, very low vulnerability and very low direct impact.
