Abstract

There are some characteristics and distributions of unconfined groundwater variation in the research area. Those are related to a system of water supply and consumptive use for drinking water. Variation of the groundwater characteristic depends on variation of morphology. Therefore, it is needed to delineate hydromorphology units of the regions as a base on groundwater resources management, especially for drinking water. The aims of the research are: (1) to study of the characteristic and distribution of unconfined groundwater variations base on landform units, (2) to study the factors that affect such variations, and (3) to establish the hydromorphology units of the regions for groundwater resources management, especially for drinking water. The method used in this research is landform approach and field survey. The sampling method is stratified sampling, based on landform as the analysis approach. Result of the research shows that there are some variations of groundwater characteristic at each landform. Landforms which have good groundwater characteristic are Hydromorphology Unit of Fluvio Volcanic Plain of Young Merapi (except Bayat region) and Hydromorphology Unit of Volcanic Foot Plain of Young Merapi. At those units, there are good quality of groundwater, bicarbonate water (hydrochemical type I), having low electric conductivity, shallow of water table, low in fluctuation, and middle to fast class in aquifer permeability. Those units are the most potential unconfined groundwater resources management for drinking water. The units which have poor groundwater characteristic are Hidromorphology Unit in Bayat Region, including Undulating Alluvial Plain, Fluvio Volcanic Plain of Young Merapi, and Swamp Alluvial Plain. Generally, the groundwater quality is medium to poor, the hydrochemical type is Va (initiation process of connate water) and type III (evaporate water), shallow up to medium of water table, and low to middle class of aquifer permeability. The taste of groundwater is brackish to saline with high concentration of chloride.

Abstract

DKI Jakarta area with high CO2 emission and 84,95 % of  built-up areas (year of 2009) cause urban heat island (UHI).  To overcome UHI problems, its characteristics must be known.  Trend analysis of surface temperature areas was conducted by comparison of surface temperature  spatial distribution of 2006 with 2010.  UHI analysis based on geograpical coordinates were also conducted.  High surface temperature of > 34 ºC was on inner city and decreasing to sub urban area.  High surface temperature were especially on high density bulit-up areas. Priority of  solving UHI problems are conducted on high surface temperature areas.

Abstract

Land management is a manifestation of the society’s behaviour in utilizing the land. The objective of the research was to examine the effect of education level, income, land tenure, knowledge, and information input on the society’s behaviour in managing the area susceptible to landslide in Pekuncen sub-district, Banyumas district.   The method of this research was survey by employing questionnaire to collect field data. The variable comprised of the data of education level, income, land tenure, knowledge, and information input.. Stratified random sampling was applied to determine the samples of the research. The area susceptibility class  was considered as the strata in which each stratum consisted of 40 family heads as the respondents. The data analysis applied statistical test of multi-regression. Research area was divided into three classes of landslide susceptibility comprising of low, medium, and high class. Education level, income, land tenure, knowledge, and information input significantly influenced the society’s behaviour dealing with land management (determination co-efficiency (R²) was 69.9 %). It occurred in the area of medium susceptibility class. Information input (regression coefficient/(beta) = 0.817) was the most influential predictor of society’s behaviour in land management located in the low susceptibility class. From this research, it was expected that the description about the factors that influenced the society’s behaviour in managing the landslide-prone area would be a valuable reference in preventing landslide in those areas.

Abstract

This paper discussed on earthquake disaster and its reduction of Yogyakarta and Central Java, Indonesia. The study area is located at relatively a short distance from subduction zone of India-Australian and Eurasian plates. Geologically this area is characterized by fault and graben structure, and geomorphologically is composed of block mountain, karsts topography and fluvio-volcanic plain. Aim of this paper is to evaluate the spatial distribution of the damage area, the environmental impacts, and to discuss the risk reduction of earthquake disaster scientifically and practically. In this paper to determine the hazard susceptibility zone and their environmental impact used geologic, geomorphologic, land use map, remote sensing image interpretation, and field observation. Discussion on the earthquake disaster risk reduction based on the hazard susceptibility and the characteristic of the human settlement and facilities. The result of this study shows that: i).the high damage area associate with distribution of the fault structures and the lithology; ii). mass-movement, lowering of groundwater, rising new springs, liquefaction, cracking of rocks and land surface; iii). structural non structural efforts are used for earthquake disaster reduction.

Abstract

There are three objectives of this research. First, to build the model of groundwater usage and conservation in the research area. Second, to identify the behaviour of model in various usages and conservations. Third, to formulate the policy of groundwater resources management that suitable with the region caracteristic. As a result, show that the programme Powersim 2.5c can be used dan applied in hydrologis, especially in building groundwater conservation model. The conservation model that significantly suitable are to decrease the usage of water in domestic and industrial sector. Relationship by the third objectives, the some policies that can be carried out to conservations, namely decreasing water usage, restricting industrial growth, restricting settlement growth (especially in recharge area) and increasing the capacity of PDAM production.

Abstract

This research was aimed to indentify land cover change in coastal area of Kendari Bay in period 2003 to 2009. The satellite imagery data (Ikonos and Quick Bird) collected in 2003 and 2009 were used in this research to obtain the land cover change. The method used in this research was comparing the classification of satellite imagery. Field survey was conducted using handheld GPS for ground truth.  The result of this research showed us the land use change in period 2003-2009. Mangrove vegetation decreased 56.57 Ha and the fishpond also decreased 205.5 Ha. The primary forest decreased into 3.28 Ha in year 2009. The secondary forest also decreases 124.84 Ha. In the same time the urban area increased from 382.37 Ha in year 2003 to 674.37 Ha in 2009. The land use change also occured for the public space which increased from 6.49 Ha in 2003 to 18.46 Ha in 2009 or increased 11,97 Ha.

Abstract

Magma activities on earth surface cause dynamic of volcanic morphology from the volcanic cone up to fluvial volcanic plain. The changing of morphology is always followed by different slope, composition and thickness of material, and break of slope. This geomorphological conditions result in groundwater emerges forming spring belt. Accordingly, wether such phenomena are also the case in the west slope of Lawu volcano is investigated in this reseach. Hydrogeomorphology approach is applied to study of the spring characteristic and distribution in the research area. The result research shows that the distribution pattern of springs in the west slope of Lawu volcano is not like spring belt perfectly, like the strato volcano generally. It is caused by erosion processes, mass wasting intensively, Lawu fault and other faults. Most springs flow on the volcanic slope and volcanic foot morphology.

Abstract

In Indonesia it was identified that there were much of polluted stream flow which cause improper consumed water. One of the rivers which has low of water qualities is Citarum River, West Java. However, along the Citarum river, there were built three reservoir dams (Saguling, Cirata and Jatiluhur) that can control the condition of river water regime. Research was conducted in Citarum watershed to determine the role of those reservoirs on water quality control. Seven stations along the river were selected as observation posts of water samples. Based on the observation results it was indicated that water pollutants within Citarum river was very high. However, those pollutants could be purified or reduced by those reservoirs, hence water discharge from the reservoirs has better quality. In the future, deposition of those pollutants within the dam may has negative environment impact. Therefore, to sustain that function of the dam, comprehensive efforts on reducing pollutants from the catchment area is urgently required.

Abstract

Floods in Jakarta showed that the Ciliwung watershed and surrounding areas in critical condition. More than 50 % of land cover Ciliwung watershed is residential. Planting trees in residential areas have been insufficient to infiltrate as much water into the ground. Infiltration well is one possibility for absorbing water in residential areas. The purpose of this study was to determine the variation in the level of water absorption Ciliwung watershed and surrounding areas. The method used is overlaying analysis of the factors that determine the rate of water infiltration with geographic information system. Each of these factors gave weights and scores to obtained variations Ciliwung water infiltration rate. The results showed that the regions with the highest levels found in the upper catchment area and the city of Bogor, middle absorbtion water area was in Bogor Regency, low water absorption areas in Depok , South Jakarta , and East Jakarta . While in North Jakarta, Central Jakarta and West Jakarta the water absortion is very low level due to the shallow ground water level and very low soil permeability. Map variations in water absorption can be used as a material consideration for determining the locations of recharge wells effectively.

Abstract

Settlement is the most important area in the activity of disaster mitigation. The Biggest detriment caused by disaster is generally placed at the settlement or residential area. Thereby, the identification of the settlement characteristics is required to be able to recognize the disaster risk. This research aim to identify the characteristics of the rural settlement on the coastal area in the District of Kulonprogo. This area is chosen based on the consideration of coastal morphological characters. This area have slopeslightly coastal zone which face to Indonesian Ocean. In this situation, hence in the event of tidal wave, there will be wide spread overflowing run up water. Two approaches is used in this research, they are; (1) Morphological Approach, and (2) Behaviour Approach. Both of the approaches is conducted with comparative perspective. The existance of the settlement which have been filtered through settlement and coastal tipology are compared. The data are collected and analyzed through: (1) Mapping and GIS tools; (2) survey method; (3) Indepth interview; and (4) statistical analysis. Thirty household are selected proportionally to setlement unit as a respondent in indepth interview. In order to analyze the data, descriptive analysis (frequency tables) and crossed tables are used. This research indicate that rural settlements on the coastal area in the District of Kulonprogo are spatialy distributed as a ribbon pattern. This pattern are coincident with the shape of the coast and the linearity of the road as well. Most of the buildings are in good condition, and they characterized by moderate housing density. In the term of coastal morphology, the research area is dominated by sandy coast with slopeslightly relief. Generally, the socio economic condition of the peoples living there are low to medium economic level, low education, and rarely medium income. Related to tidal flood vulnerability, this research area is the second level (moderate) hazardeous zone.
