Abstract

This study aimed to enhance mathematical communication ability and self-efficacy on seventh-grade students through Double Loop Problem Solving learning at MTs Negeri 3 Banyumas. The subjects was 26 seventh-grade students from MTs Negeri 3 Banyumas in academic year of 2018/2019. This research was a class action research consisting of 3 cycles. The instrument was the test to measure mathematical communication ability and the questionnaire to measure self-efficacy. The results are the average score of mathematical communication ability in cycle I, cycle II, and cycle III respectively are 52,03; 74,02; dan 76,58. In addition, the average score of self-efficacy in cycle I, cycle II, and cycle III respectively are 68,59; 72,80; and 75,64.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the skills students must have in mathematics learning so that students can make the right decisions when solving mathematical problems. This study aims to analyze the effects of the POGIL on students’ mathematical critical thinking skills. This research is an quasy experimental study, with a post test only control design research design. The population in this study were all students of grade VIII SMP N 2 Kemangkon in the academic year of 2018/2019. The sampling was done by cluster random sampling techniques and it obtained two sample classes namely class VIII C as an experimental class using learning with the POGIL model and class VIII B as control class using conventional learning models. The instrument used in this study was post-test mathematical critical thinking skill. Based on the result of hypothesis testing using independent sample t-test with a 95% confidence level, it shows that POGIL has an effect on students’ mathematical critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the mathematic conceptual understanding skills based on the expertise competency of grade X students of SMK Negeri 3 Purwokerto. This research applied the descriptive qualitative method. The sample was collected through the purposive sampling technique. This research collected two subjects from each of high and low achieving category in each expertise competency. The categories of high and low achieving students were based on the minimum required score. The data were collected through a test of mathematics conceptual understanding skills and interviews. The data were validated using the triangulation technique. The results of the research showed that (1) students of hotel accommodation department had a better mathematics conceptual understanding skill than students of the catering management department. It happened because the category of high achieving students of accommodation department fulfilled all indicators of mathematics conceptual understanding skills and the category of low achieving students of accommodation department only fulfilled the indicators of giving examples and non-examples from the concept being learned. (2) Students of catering management department had a better mathematic conceptual understanding skill than students of the fashion design department. It happened because the category of high achieving students of catering management department did not fulfill one indicator of presenting the concept in some forms of mathematic representations and the category of low achieving students of catering management department did not master all of the indicators. (3) The category of high achieving students of the fashion design department mastered all indicators of mathematics conceptual understanding skills of giving examples and non-examplesform the concept being learned and presenting the concept in some forms of mathematic representation. Meanwhile, the category of low achieving students of the fashion design department only mastered the indicator of applying concept or algorithm to problem-solving.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the analytical reasoning ability of Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Gumelar in terms of gender. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method. The subjects in this study were students of class VIII D of SMP Negeri 2 Gumelar, totaling 28 students consisting of 15 male students and 13 female students. Sampling was done using purposive sampling technique. In one class, 3 male and 3 female students were selected who had good communication and relatively similar mathematical abilities. Data collection in this study used tests, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques used include data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The validation test used is technical triangulation. The results showed that male students had better analytical reasoning abilities compared to female students. Male students have mastered the four components of analogy reasoning ability encompassing Encoding, Inferring, Mapping and Applying. Meanwhile, female students only mastered the three components of analogy reasoning ability namely Inferring, Mapping and Applying

Abstract

This study aims to describe the adaptive reasoning skills of students in SMP Negeri 5 Purwokerto in terms of student learning activeness in the subject system of two-variable linear equations. This study uses qualitative research methods and uses the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation (display data) and conclusions (verification/conclusion drawing). Sources of data in this study were students of class VIII H. The research subjects were obtained using purposive sampling techniques, and students were categorized into three categories, namely students with high, medium and low learning activeness categories. Each group was selected by three students for research purposes. Data collection methods in this study used questionnaires, tests, interviews and documentation. Based on the results of the study it can be said that students who have high learning activeness are able and meet three of the five indicators of adaptive reasoning skills appropriately, students who have active learning are not yet adequately fulfilling indicators of adaptive reasoning skills appropriately, and students who have low learning activeness have not been able to and mastering precisely the indicators of adaptive reasoning abilities.

Abstract

The study aimed to describe the mathematical critical thinking skills and learner autonomy of students at SMP Negeri 1 Baturraden viewed from learning style. This study was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the study were students of grade VII G. The selection of the sample was done through purposive sampling technique obtaining 3 students of visual learning style, 3 students of auditory learning style and 3 students of kinesthetic learning style. Techniques to collect the data were questionnaire, test, and interview. Data analyses were data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validity test of the data was triangulation test of triangulation techniques. The findings obtained that students with visual learning styles mastered the indicators of analytical skills, synthesizing skills, problem solving skills as well as the skills of evaluating and assessing, meanwhile the learner autonomy mastered indicators of learning strategies, planning, evaluating, assignments/exercises, various learning resources and students workbook. Students with auditory learning styles grasped indicators of analytical skills, problem solving skills, as well as evaluating and assessing skills while for learner autonomy understood indicators of learning strategies, planning, evaluating, various learning resources and students workbook. While kinesthetic learning style students grasped the indicators of synthesizing and evaluating skills while for learner autonomy mastered the indicators of using learning strategies and using various learning resources.

Abstract

The problem that underlies this research is the lack of collaboration and mathematics learning outcomes of students of class IX C of SMP N 4 Sumbang. This can be seen if students have difficulty in understanding the material, students tend to be quiet and do not want to cooperate with friends, even though the cooperation of students is very necessary to achieve the success of teaching and learning. To create student cooperation in the learning process, a learning model is needed. One such learning model is the TAI (Teams Assisted Individualization) type of cooperative learning model, where the model is oriented towards collaboration, both mentally, attitudes, and socially. The purpose of this research is to find out the improvement of cooperation and learning outcomes in mathematics through the application of cooperative learning models in the form of sequence and series TAI material. This research is a Classroom Action Research. Learning tools, namely syllabus, lesson plans, teaching materials, and worksheets. While the research instrument is the description test and observation sheet. The subjects of the study were 22 students of the IXC class at SMPN 4 Sumbang. Data sources come from teachers and students. Data collection techniques are by observation, and tests. The study was conducted in December 2017 until April 2018. The subject and time of the study were chosen because the researcher taught in the class and the implementation time was adjusted to the lesson schedule. The research procedure begins with problem identification, action planning, implementation of actions and observations, and analysis and reflection. The results showed that the ability of student cooperation, from the first cycle the percentage of student cooperation with the category of "quite good" 27% and the category of "good" by 73% to the category of "good" 54% and the category of "very good" by 45% in the second cycle. Student learning outcomes in the first cycle obtained an average of 72.18 with a classical completeness of 59.09% and an increase in the second cycle an average value of 80.36 with a classical completeness of 81.82%. From these results it is recommended that teachers be able to clarify the process of assessing the ability of students to collaborate in the learning process, so that the implementation of learning can run smoothly. While students are advised to increase collaboration so that individual and group learning outcomes can be achieved to the maximum.
