Abstract

Rapid urbanization has affected urban areas in developing countries, including in Jakarta, in several ways. One of the impacts is the increasing number of poor inhabitants. Urban agriculture is recently re-raised as one of the answers for eradicating urban poverty, a condition that has an effect on, among other, food crisis. This paper aims to identify the potentials of urban agriculture development in Jakarta by learning from several best practices in other countries. This study employs qualitative descriptive analysis by considering precondition factors for urban agriculture development, most notably physical, institutional, and socio-economic factor. It can be concluded, from many cases, urban agriculture in Jakarta has, either directly or indirectly, impacts on people’s livelihood.

Abstract

Klipoh is located in the northern part of Borobudur Central Java province,  is a famous pottery village after Nggundi village. Based on data,almost 80% of the people are making pottery. This become unique because the pottery they made similar to manuscript that stipulated at one of the relief Borobudur Temple.It means that the pottery tradition is actually inheritance by the anchestor. As one of villages in Borobudur, Klipoh is still remain traditional eventhough there are many changes and effects forced local value to be changed. But if we take a look into detail, there are some traditional values are still remain and some were already changed. They changed and rearrangedtheir house from ordinary living  to become pottery production  house. There were many rooms and spaces changed functionally based on their pottery needs that caused crowded and made inconfinience of the room user. From this phenomena, therefore, it was needed to focus the study more on the space transformation of traditional houses as one of the significant changes that made trouble for the room users occurred in Klipoh. By using qualitative research, it is expected to look into detail the space transformation due to some aspects.

Abstract

In general, this article represent the early study about urban renewal and preservation in the area of Kerkhoff graveyard in Banda Aceh. The background of this study is the symptom which appear in this area, which  is the existence of desire to conduct more new construction with better quality and modern but felt concerned about it could tarnish the existence of Kerkhoff as historic object which must be preserved. Research formulation of  this study is the importance of revitalisation in the area of Kerkhoff graveyard  which have been recognized as historic place and the need of urban renewal effort integrated with the concept of rehabilitation the quality and identity in the area of Kerkhoff graveyard. The objective of this study is to create the solution in the form of idea plan of urban renewal as recommendation. This qualitative research use the descriptive method systematically, factual and accurate about preserving historic object with the special approach in the form of historical aspect and building tipology.

Abstract

More than 110 millions Indonesian peoples lives in coastal areas and small islands which is highly affected by natural disaster such as volcanic and tectonic earthquake(Dahuri,R.2001). Around 400,000 from total population of 850,000 peoples in Padang, lives in the coastal area(Rencana Strategis Wilayah Pesisir dan Laut Kota Padang, 2007). Based on the above facts, this research try to create mitigation model in Padang City’s coastal areas through community participations against tsunami, coastal abrasion, earthquake and high/low tide with case study in Kelurahan Pasie Nan Tigo, Kecamatan Koto Tangah. Active participations by the community  to create disaster mitigation model in coastal area are needed because the community’s knowledge of their day to day problems related to natural disaster could pro-actively minimize the impact of the disaster which probably occur in their living area

Abstract

Corridor of Malioboro Street has the potential to spatial utilization conflict. Spatial agents think and attempt to build a strategy in order to remain and be able to utilize spaces for activities, but by reducing risks of conflicts as minimum as possible. The question is how is the strategy to manage spatial utilization conflict that they build together? This research applied the approach of phenomenology naturalistic, the research finding shows that the spatial consensus concept built in spatial utilization. The spatial consensus built based on compromises and negotiation has been built in a long period of time. The agreement based on their own initiatives, the representative system was through the community and association boards, and using the third party as facilitator. The substance contained in spatial consensus concept is building the communication to deal with the utilization of space collectively and in the same or different period of time by still prioritizing the principle of togetherness, tolerance, and mutual understanding not to harm others and then called as local values used as the norms and institution to agree with collectively.

Abstract

Human as economic being always strive to get opportunity to earn income by doing anything wherever it is. Human will seek for living place suitable for him in order to have living space to build settlement. There are two major options, that are to find comfortable place or place close to income source of the resultant of which one of the options will create the choice of living place suitable to him. Based on the two options; whether the choice for the close distance to the income source is more prominent rather than the needs for comfort. Industrial areas in Semarang is a location faces tide inundation, dense population, industrial pollution, and land subsidence, but the coming people is three times more than those leaving. The aim of this research is to figure out the ratio of human aggressiveness level to survive through income earning rather than to seek comfort and safety. The research uses descriptive qualitative method with correlation analysis. The result shows that the power to earn income has a great influence to ignore comfort and safety factor in selecting the location of the settlement.
