Abstract

Wall paint emulsion is an emulsion of a mixture of pigments, binders and solvents, and other additives that are used primarily for painting walls. This study was conducted to determine the use of kaolin as a extender pigment West Kalimantan in the manufacture of emulsion paint walls. Kaolin is used combined with titanium dioxide with a percentage of 33% , 42% , 50% , 58% and 67% of the total pigment . The best results are obtained on the addition of 50% kaolin with power caps 29m2/L, density 1.40 g/cm3, fineness of 25microns, dry touch 10 seconds, hard dry 20 minutes, 61.99 wt% total solids, pH 7.21, viscosity 107 KU, resistance to alkali and accelerated weather for 600 hours. This was the best result and has met the quality requirements SNI 3564:2009 of emulsion paint.

Abstract

The effect of submersion KOH 5% for seaweed as raw materials products air freshener gel has been studied. Seaweed in Indonesia has a big potentially and it is commonly used in food products, beverages, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. This research aims to use seaweed as a feedstock gel air freshener. Soaking seaweed with KOH was conducted to determine the nature of the water content and gel strength of the gel air freshener products generated given the scent of oranges and cloves. KOH concentration used was 5%. The results showed the water content of seaweed with KOH soaked lower than without KOH, whereas the gel strength with marinated seaweed KOH higher than without KOH. The results of organoleptic test, in this case the sense of smell, the air freshener gel product indicates that the product that uses citrus scent perfuming/lemon, panelists preferred more than the product is scented gel air freshener clove oil.

Abstract

Cellulase is an important enzyme for industry which can be obtained from cheap tropical agrowastes such as durian peel. West Kalimantan, in particular Pontianak city produces tons of durian peel waste during harvest season each year. This study used durian peel waste as substrates and A. niger to produce cellulase, The aim of this study is to determine the optimum incubation time in producing cellulase under solid state fermentation. Different incubation time (48, 72, 96, 120 and 144 hours) were applied for the production of cellulase. The optimum cellulase production was 120 hours of incubation, giving  protein content of 0.3960% and enzyme activity of 1,069.01 ppm, respectively.

Abstract

Research of energy efficiency for biodiesel production process by combining two orifices on  hydrodynamic cavitation reactor had been carried out. The aim of this reseach was to studied effect of the number of orifices toward increasing temperature without using external energy source to produce biodiesel that generated by cavitation effects on orifices. The results of preliminary research showed by combining two orifices arranged in series can produce the highest thermal energy reached 48oC. Result of biodiesel production showed that yield of the highest biodiesel was 96.34% using molar ratio a methanol:oil with comparison 6:1, KOH as catalyst (1%) for 50 minutes processing time. For biodiesel quality testing showed all selected parameter met the requirements of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 04-7182:2006. Identification of biodiesel compound using GCMS showed the biodiesel compounds consisted of methyl oleate, methyl palmitate, acid linoleid, methyl stearate, palmitic acid and oleic acid with the total contents 98.39%.

Abstract

Most mosquito repellent lotions available on the market today contain the active ingredient diethyltoluamide (DEET) which is very harmful to the skin. Natural mosquito repellent research using various essential oils (geranium oil, lemon oil, citronella oil and lavender oil) as the active ingredient and the addition of aloe vera gel as a moisturizer has been done on a laboratory scale. The purpose of this study was to compare the protection ability of the mosquito repellent plants in Indonesia. The results showed that geranium oil, lemongrass oil, lavender oil and lemon oil could act as mosquito repellent. Best lotion formula all containing 15% essential oils have the effectiveness above 50% until the sixth hour were geranium oil, citronella oil and lavender oil while lemon oil only giving effectiveness above 50% until the second hour.
