Abstract

The research of Distillation And Raw Material Composition Effect of Yield And Quality EssentialOil of Leaves And Stem Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth). This study aimed to examine the influence of the length of distillation and composition of raw materials to the yield and quality of essential oil of patchouli leaves and stems to produce essential oils that have a high quality and yield. The time required to obtain the highest yield of patchouli oil is 8 hours, by composition of 100% leaf (1:0), that is equal to 3.631%, while the lowest yield of patchouli oil are produced from 100% stem (1:0) by distillation of 4 hours, in the amount of 0.10%. Composition that produces patchouli oil with the best quality is 100% stems (0:1) but that yield is lower, while the quality of patchouli oil produced by 100% leaf (1:0) and a mixture of leaf-stem (1:1) quality is still lower than the patchouli oil from the stem, but its yield is better than the yield of oil patchouli by 100% composition of the stem (0:1).Keywords:  essential oil, pogostemon cablin benth, yield

Abstract

The research of coconut and rubber wood utilization as raw material for glulam has been done. This research aims to optimize the function of rubber wood and palm stem by the incorporation of technology and adhesion to wood products in the form of building construction materials. In addition, knowing the physical and mechanical properties of glulam based on three variations of the type of timber (rubber wood, coconut, coconut stem wood + rubber), and various number of layers (5 layers, 6 layers, and 7 layers). Each combination treatment was repeated three times. The best mechanical physical properties of glulam for type of rubber wood, with 7 layers. Keywords : glulam, coconut wood, rubber wood, characters physical, characters mechanic

Abstract

Durian wood (Durio zibethinus) from unproductive trees is a potential source of wood as raw material for furniture industry, but it has the weakness of vurnability to the wood insects such as dry wood termites. The objective of research is to find out the effectiveness of sawdust extract of teak wood (Tectona grandis) in preventing the decaying of durian wood. Thus the effort can improve the properties of durian wood. The preservative used in the research is extract of teak sawdust, i.e 250 gr/5 l water, 500 gr/5 l water and 750 gr/5 l. The preservation is used by cold soaking to the solution resulted from extraction for 7 days. The result of research shows that the application of teak sawdust for 500 gr/5 l water is sufficiently effective, because it causes the mortality of dry wood termites for 100,00 % and the retention of 17, 01 mg/cm3.Keywords: teak sawdust, durian wood, natural preservatives, mortality, retention.

Abstract

Non-timber forest products (NTFPs) such as the root of Akar Wangi (Vetiveria zizainoides), Durian’s bark (Durio zibethinus Murr), Jaringau (Acorus Calamus L.), Liligundi (Vitex trifolia), Gemor bark (Alseodaphne spp.),  and Neem seeds (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.) have good potential as a natural insecticide. They can be used  for anti-mosquito materials that can be prevent the development of vector-borne Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF). Disruptive effects of the plants to the insects come from the odor which produces from the plant. Judging from the compounds that contained in non-timber forest products (NTFPs), beside used as anti-mosquito repellent, it can also used  as other pests repellant such as bugs,   termites, ants, etc. The end product also can be diversed  as insect repellent burns, topical / lotion, spray, and others. Keywords :  akar wangi,  durian bark, jariangau, liligundi, gemor bark, mimba, natural insecticide

Abstract

Aren (Arenga pinnata) is one of the plants that can be utilize as the raw material for bioetanol. The research of bioetanol producing used nira aren as raw material has been conducted by yeast of pure culture Saccharomyces cerevisiae and fermipan. The process is done by fermentation and distillation based on the duration of fermentation, concentration ratio of starter to the substrate by each type of yeast used. The result of research shows that the highest yield of bioetanol on pure culture fermentation as long 50 hours with 10 % concentration of starter, that is 14,9 %. The highest content of bioetanol is on  fermentation as long 75 hours with 5 % concentration of starter, that is 73,0 %. Fermentation with fermipan, the the highest yield and concentration of bioetanol  is at the fermentation as long 75 hours with the starter concentration of 15 %, that is                  10,1 % and 66,0 %.Keywords:  nira aren, saccharomyces cerevisiae, fermipan, starter concentration, output concentration of bioetanol

Abstract

This research used the lesser known species as much 5 types rattan, consisted of i.e marau (Calamus Mettanensis Becc), toho (Calamus Spp), galang (Daemonorops Verticilaris Griff Mart), hijau (Calamus Spp) and simpurut (Calamus Panajuga Becc) from Central Kalimantan. Preservative used the mixture of boric acid with the borax and copper-8 by  the concentration of 1,0 %, 2,0 % and 3,0 %. Soaked time during 2 day, 4 day and 6 day by immersion chilled. Result of research indicated that the retention value varied, the greater of concentration condensation and soaking period, the greater average the value of retention while penetration result at all of treatment showed the value 100 %.Keywords:  rattan, preservation, retention, penetration, cold soaking.
