Abstract

Abstract: Islamic boarding school is connected to the execution of ideas through organizational culture. The term Banjaran culture is referred to the significant knowledge which can develop students' attitudes and behaviors. Following the assumption of reflective practice, this study critically investigates the suitability of cultural values. Data were collected from the deputy secretary, Mr. Mukhlis Lubis as the representatives of school leaders, head caregivers, and senior students using a qualitative paradigm as well as phenomenological methodologies. The results showed that internalization occurred at several managerial levels. Meanwhile, the Banjaran culture is accomplished as a distinguishing element, a mutual commitment-forming, and helps to generate a stable social structure, as well as develop students' characters. The value of independence, creativity, entrepreneurial motivation, religiosity, communication, social interaction, mental and physical resilience, moderation, tolerance, and ukhuwah (friendship and kinship) are parts of the qualities created by its internalization. Keywords: Banjaran culture: Islamic boarding school culture: character building, Musthafawiyah

Studies on this organization, especially its religious fatwas, are still very limited. This article examines Al Wasliyah's fatwas on non-Muslim leaders, communism and Ahmadiyah. This study is a literature study with historical and legal normative approaches. The primary data sources of this study are documents belonging to the Fatwa Council of Al Washliyah, while the secondary sources are the results of research by experts on the topics discussed. The data is analyzed using the content analysis method. This study argues that Al Washliyah, which adheres to the Shafi'i school of thought and Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah, responds to a variety of contemporary religious issues, especially related to the law of electing leaders from among non-Muslims, the legal position of communists, and Ahmadiyya. The organization's view is firm, that it is forbidden to elect non-Muslims as leaders, communists are infidels, and Ahmadiyya is a cult. Al Washliyah's religious views emphasize Al Washliyah's position as a traditional Islamic group in Indonesia, and tend to reject liberal understanding. Keywords: Al Washliyah, fatwa, non-Muslim leaders, comunism, Ahmadiyah

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of the study was to determine the implementation of gold murabahah financing for Islamic banking and Sharia pawnshops, the reasons for the differences in implementation, and their suitability in the Islamic economic perspective. In principle, the implementation of financing gold murabahah of sharia banking and sharia pawnshops is similar in form. But what distinguishes it lies in the technique of contracting and the transaction of delivery of goods. For example, customers buying gold in murabahah can take the purchase gold directly without waiting for the installment to be paid off and if the gold is available, and provide collateral with other goods, but in some other Islamic banks, the goods purchased must be used as collateral so that in this Islamic banking using a double contract, namely the murabahah contract at the time of purchase of goods,  Then the rahn contract (pawn) when the goods are used as collateral. This is the same as the practice carried out by sharia pawnshops in Aceh province. As such, it can be concluded that the implementation of gold murabahah financing in Islamic financial institutions according to the Islamic economy is in accordance with Islamic economic principles. Keywords: Islamic economics, financing, murabahah, shariah banking, and sharia pownshop

Abstract

Abstract: This article examines the role of Al Washliyah ulamas in the development of knowledge in Indonesia. This study is a literature study, by applying Kuntowijoyo’s model, and utilizing historical and philosophical approach. Al-Attas' theory of the classification of knowledge will be used as a tool to analyze the topic of this study. The aim of this study is to find Al Washliyah scholars from 1930 to 1980 who played an important role in developing knowledge in Indonesia. This study argues that Al Washliyah ulamas have taken an important role in developing two types of knowledge, namely religious sciences; as well as the rational, intellectual and philosophical sciences, although their attention is more directed to the former. Their works cover the fields of the Qur’an, sunnah, shariah, theology, Islamic metaphysics (tasawuf), linguistics, comparative religion, philosophy, and history. They wrote using Latin script (Indonesian), Arabic script (Arabic) and Jawi script (Malay Arabic). The works of Al Washliyah ulamas have become a reference for their students and Muslims in East Sumatra and Aceh. Some of their works are still used as textbooks in a number of madrasas. This shows that their works are still in demand as proof that the influence of Al Washliyah scholars left an important mark. Keywords: ulama, Al Washliyah, classification of knowledge, religious sciences, rational sciences
