Abstract

New Order regime under Soeharto carried various ways out in order to weaken its rival's position. One of them is symbolical way, by using its formal discourses to create illegitimate and unfavourable construction on its rivals. This symbolical one is also applied to Bung Karno, the first President of Indonesia. Instead of less effectively legal-formal mechanisms to erode Bung Karno's influences, they delegitimated Bung Karno's in symbolical contex. This article looks that delegitimation practices to Bung Karno, or De-Soekarno-ization, is not only conducted on the level of manifest, for example by swept away Soekarno's loyalists fivm bureaucracy and military, but also on the level of symbolical-latent by negating and denying Bung Karno's historical roles and contributions. It occured in textual education books and government medias and on the various debate in mass media when apparatuses of New Order regime discreditted Bung Karno

Abstract

This paper describes NGOs as an agent of environmental movement, especially in Yogyakarta. The paper focuses on modes of environmental movement. At least, there are three modes of environmental NG0s, that is: instrumental, sub-cultural, and contra-cultural movement. Environmental NGOs in Yogyakarta tend to have the same mode of one, although their activities varies. The mode of movement is sub-cultural movement. The NGOs movement does not change the dominant culture (capitalistic culture), which causes environmental poblems. Then- activities only encourage and support awareness and concern on environmental problems in the context of dominant culture.

Abstract

The UNESCO defines the goals, objectives and the aims of development to be: not to develop things but to develop men. It means that the development process has to emphasize to promote the capacity of human resources and institutions in each community. Therefore in that process, community initiative and capacity in local level are very important. Nevertheless, governmental or non-governmental organization can execute some programs as an intervention in that process. In order that intervention has an impact to increase the capacity of the people, it has to use a principle; help the people to help themselves or intervention is a part of enabling process.
