Abstract

Seed and seedling is one of main factors in determining the product of horticultural crops. Theuse seed production on horticultural crops, could be produced by government institution orprivate sector. In the last 21 years (1980 – 2001) the government has released 183 improvedvariety of vegetables, including 26 red onion, red chili, cabbage and potato. These number ismuch Owen compared to number of improved variety of crops. For instance 105 newimproved varieties for rice, 50 varieties for corn and 33 varieties for soybean. The role ofprivate sectors on the horticultural seed is much more dominant to the high demandcommodities and cannot be produced by the farmers it can be seen on the production of redchili seed compared to three other commodities. The performance of seed on the levelconsumer, represented by the farmers in the area production central, namely red onion, redchili in the central Java Province, and potato and cabbage in North Sumatera Province. Thefindings of the study are : the farmers are influencing by the group on the selection of seed tobe use, the role of field extension worker is very limited, the seed has been use by the farmersbefore introducing by government, at any planting time the farmers not always use a newseed, even there are some farmers never used improved variety of potato.

Abstract

Assessment on “Projections of Maize, Feed and Chicken Meat Production andDemand in Indonesia is focused to analyze a balance between the domesticproduction and demand for the next ten years, as well as to analyze its levelresponse to influence factors. This research used the national time series data for1980 to 2001 period. The econometric model (simultaneous regression) approachthrough the two stage least squares (2SLS) method had been implemented in orderto reach the objectives of this research. The projection results shown that ontechnology level and policies unchanged, the domestic production from thosecommodities until 2010 year are predicted not sufficient to meet its demand, so thattargeting for the maize and chicken meat self-sufficient in 2005 can not be reach. It isbetter, if effort to increase of the corn domestic production is more prioritized onimprovement of the technology aspect, because corn productivity is more responseto this aspect than to the other ones. The feed production and demand that weremore response to the maize price than to the feed price, and also the chicken meatproduction and demand that were more response to the chicken meat price itselfthan the feed price proofed that the feed market structure in Indonesia tend is closeto oligopoly market structure.

Abstract

Impact Analysis of Improved and Location Specific Agricultural Technologieson Productivity, AIAT East Nusa Tenggara Case. By selecting six topics ofimproved research and assessments (R&A), impact analysis on productivity hadbeen carried out in 2002 fiscal year. However, only four out of six topics wereanalyzed, because the other two were still in adaptive level. Application of introducedtechnologies, in fact, resulted in some additional yield. The highest production andproductivity were experienced by R&A of Backyard Farming System, i.e. 569.63percent, then followed by Milk Fish Culture, Bisma Corn Based Agribusiness, BeefCattle Based Agribusiness 482.10 percent, 284.76 percent and 45.0 percent, respectively. Corn Agribusiness gave the largest impact area of 1,365 ha, while itsimpact on production was also excellent, by adding production of 2,319,308.33kg/planting season. Milkfish culture, on the other hand gave the highest income/haper production cycle. Based on relatively high MBCRs, all analyzed topics werefeasible to be developed in the future. Milkfish culture on brackish water was themost profitable business, reflected by the highest MBCR of 14,08. MBCR figures forBackyard Farming, Beef Cattle Agribusiness and Bisma Corn Agribusiness were1.38, 6.24 and 8.61, respectively. Cost and price ratio of each topics were 0.47; 0.21;0.22 and 0.33 for Backyard Farming System, Bisma Corn Agribusiness, Milk FishCulture and Beef Cattle Agribusiness, respectively. The smallest adoption cost perKg product was indicated by Backyard Farming System (Rp 935.85), followed byBisma Corn Agribusiness (Rp 1,028.30) and Milk Fish Culture (Rp 2181.32), whilethe highest was for Beef Cattle Agribusiness (Rp 9,770.03).
