Abstract

The integration of science and local knowledge is still rarely found in the learning media used in lectures. This has an impact on the lack of meaningful learning and students' ability to create student worksheets. This study applied a case-based learning strategy integrated with traditional ecological knowledge to evaluate the ability of prospective teacher students to design student worksheets, so this study aimed to determine the correlation between the two variables. The sample for this study was 73 prospective science teacher students who programmed the STEM course. The study used a one-shoot case design and the results showed that (1) students' ability to design TEK-based worksheets increased from meeting 1 to meeting 3 after the implementation of the CBL strategy, and (2) there was a positive and strong relationship between the implementation of the CBL strategy and the ability of students to design TEK-based worksheets. So, the CBL strategy is appropriate to use in STEM lectures to improve students' ability to design worksheets.

Abstract

Science learning that only prioritizes conceptual learning and ignores relevance to the environmental context and society in which students live needs to be immediately abandoned and changed to contextual learning oriented towards student activity and engagement. The research aims to implement the contextual teaching and learning (CTL) model assisted by video animation to improve student learning processes and engagement in science learning about the Water Cycle. For this reason, a qualitative approach to this type of classroom action research is a research method that is considered relevant. Class actions were carried out in cycles (planning, implementation, observation and reflection) in class 5 of SDN 3 Watang Sidenreng, Sidrap Regency, South Sulawesi. Three instruments were used as data collection tools: teacher and student observation sheets and student learning engagement observation. Descriptive analysis was used for the analysis of data. The result is significant changes after implementing three class actions, especially in the student-centred orientation of learning science. With worksheets supported by animated video media, everything strengthens the contextualization of the Water Cycle material to be closer to students' daily phenomena. Various activities and learning experiences are realized when implementing the CTL model's seven learning steps (syntax). At the end of the cycle, student engagement could increase significantly. Thus, implementing CTL assisted by video animation could improve the learning process and engagement.

Abstract

The lack of utilization of resources is the main factor for the low level of student learning independence, yet in reality, teachers still struggle to connect chemical concepts with everyday life contexts. The SETS approach-based e-module is an innovation in enhancing students' learning independence and learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the validity and practicality of the developed chemistry learning module. This research and development was carried out to produce an e-module product based on the SETS approach assisted by flip HTML5 on chemical equilibrium material that is valid, practical, and effective in increasing independent learning and student knowledge learning outcomes. The development model used is a 4D model which consists of 4 phases, 1) Define, 2) Design, 3) Development, and 4) Disseminate. The purposive sampling technique was used as a sampling technique, namely students of class XI MIPA 1 at SMAN 10 Banjarmasin. Data collection techniques included questionnaires (validation sheets, product practicality, product effectiveness) and learning achievement tests. The results showed that the e-module: (1) is very valid with an average percentage of 90.98%, (2) is very practical, based on readability tests, response questionnaires, and observation sheets with an average score of 4.34, and (3) is effective in increasing learning independence and knowledge learning outcomes in terms of the N-gain learning independence of 0.45 in the medium category and the N-gain of knowledge learning outcomes of 0.71 in the high category. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that e-modules based on the SETS approach assisted by HTML5 flip media are appropriate for use in chemistry learning, especially in chemical equilibrium material.

Abstract

In order to address the lack of reliable scientific literacy assessment tools in many schools, it became necessary to develop new instruments. Unfortunately, most teachers had not previously conducted comprehensive scientific literacy assessments or used assessment tools that followed independent curriculum assessment guidelines. As a result, this study was undertaken to create a valid and reliable scientific literacy assessment tool for junior high school students. The assessment tool utilized five scientific literacy indicators: understanding phenomena, explaining phenomena scientifically, using scientific evidence, solving problems, and identifying scientific problems in the earth and solar system. The 4D research and development method was employed in this study, with the development stages simplified to 3D. Research instruments included validation sheets and scientific literacy tests. The final product is a scientific literacy assessment tool consisting of 16 essay questions. Results from content/expert validity testing by material and language experts were 0.83%, and the empirical validation results of the 16 essay questions as a whole were deemed valid. Additionally, reliability testing yielded a value of 0.960, indicating very high reliability. Testing the hypothesis on the left side showed that at least 61% of students possessed scientific literacy abilities, with the same proportion found to be at the developing and advanced stages. However, 11% of students were still in the beginning stages, indicating that they had not yet met the learning objectives criteria.
