Abstract

Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model (FVCOM) is using for numerical modeling of hydrodynamic tidal water in west coast of Badung regency, Bali. The model result is validation with field observations data in the area using the equation Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). Field tidal data elevation of sea level elevation measurements were obtained by using the palm of tidal. Field data speed and direction of sea currents obtained using Lagrangian method. Excellent results obtained with RMSE values tidal elevation of sea level by 0.24 m dan RMSE values for sea current is 0.125 m/s. The results of model simulations show sea current patterns in the waters of the west coast of Badung regency, Bali relatively the same at the spring tide and neap tide conditions. The pattern of sea currents at high tide shows current vector that moves in toward the water of the west coast of Badung regency area from Bali Strait and the Indian Ocean. At the time of low tide sea current vector movement towards Bali Strait and the India Ocean. Sea current velocity in the eastern waters of the west coast of Badung regency (longitude of 115,05°– 115,17°) is higher than the sea current velocity in western waters area (longitude of 114,95°– 115,05°). Sea current velocity in the waters of the west coast of Badung regency on the condition of the spring tide range from 0.005 to 0.025 m/s, on the other side the sea current velocity on the neap tide conditions range from 0.005 to 0.012 m/s.

Abstract

Benoa bay is a tidal area located in the southern part of Bali island. Several study of physical aspect of sea water in the Benoa bay has been done using remote sensing data. At this moment there aren’t studies about the relationship between the tidal condition and the spectral response. For this reason, the aim of this work is to study the characteristic of spectral response of satellite data linked to tidal variation. To meet the goal, Landsat TM 8 images were used in eight different dates ranging from March 2014 to May 2015. The methodology included techniques such as radiometric corrections, cropping and statistical analysis for band 1 to 7. The results indicate that when landsat 8 images acquired, Benoa Bay has a tidal elevation from -0.121 to 0.857. The spectral responses for the sea water body show a contrast between the visible and infrared regions. There isn’t clear correlation between tidal water variation and its spectral behavior of infrared regions; it depends rather on the presence or absence of sediments and vegetation in the water as shown in the visible region with moderate correlation 0.65 (Band 1) and 0.67 (Band 2).

Abstract

Southern bluefin tuna (SBT) is scientifically known Thunnus maccoyii, and just live in the southern hemisphere. SBT fish classified as the most exploited tuna fish in the southeastern part of the Indian Ocean, so it is protected by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The aim of this study is too collected of SBT fish caught during January which is the peak of SBT landing in Benoa port. The study was conducted base on data sampling, observation and interviews on 33 ships were landing SBT fish during January 2016. Based on observations from 33 vessels, we found that the total of SBT fish that landed in Benoa port during January 2016 is 251 fresh fish and 366 frozen fish. However just 251 SBT fresh fish were sampled, and the result indicated the fresh SBT fish is dominated by weigh between 61-70 kg with number 61 fish with a total weight of 19.28 tonne. The SBT were caught dominated by fish that has FL (fork lenght) ranging between 151-160 cm with number 69 fish. While the smallest SBT range between 131-140 cm with the number of 5 fish. These results indicate that SBT fish caught in the Souetheast Indian Ocean during January 2016 is generaly relative small fish (130–160 cm FL) with a number of 163 fish and mature SBT fish (FL > 162 cm) with a number of 88 and young SBT (FL < 130 cm) with a number of 5 fish. Based on morphometric analysis, eyeball diameter of SBT range 6-8 cm, the length lateral head from the tip of the mouth to behind the gill cover ranging 46-54 cm, the length of body from the early dorsal or in front of the first dorsal fin ranging between 38-47 cm, the height of fish at the end of the anal or at the end ranging between 34-39 cm, the high of caudal peduncle ranging between 4-5 cm, th length of the dorsal base of the tail fish ranging between 53-63 cm, and the length of the base of tail anal from anal to tail ranging between 41-51 cm. Base on size and age composition, it is shown that the growth of SBT during January 2016 is isometric.

Abstract

Mangrove is one of the coastal ecosystem is able to grow in fluctuating water conditions. Mangrove areas are found on the Nusa Lembongan island, Bali, is a ??mangrove ecosystem that have the unique characteristics of water area. The mangrove area is located on one of the small islands in Bali that have no source of freshwater input and there is the entrance of water into the mangrove forest. The uniqueness of waters in mangrove ecosystem will affect the type and density of fauna associated, particularly mollusca. Mollusca are one of the animals that live and thrive in the mangrove ecosystem. Therefore, it is necessary to study which aimed to provide a description of the water quality and mollusca on mangrove ecosystem in Nusa Lembongan. This research was conducted in June 2015 on a six station observation. Measurement of water quality conducted on four water parameters such as temperature, DO, pH, and salinity. Observation on the type and density of mollusca done using transects squared (1 x 1 meter). The range of values ??obtained water quality parameters, such as; 1) salinity (32.00-34.33 ppm), 2) pH (7.06-7.96), 3) temperature (27.27-30.13 Celsius), and 4) DO (2.60-6.90 mg/l). Water quality parameter values ??obtained are still in the range of water quality standard and suitable place to live and grow for marine biota life. Dissolved oxygen (DO) value was still below the threshold quality standard. There six families of mollusca found in six observation station, such as Neritidae, Littorinidae, Columbellidae, Olividae, Carditidae, Muricidae, Potamidae, Certthiidae. The highest density was in Family Potamidae (1.83 ind/m2), so the Family Potamidae is able to adapt and have a wide area deployment.
