Abstract

Mangrove is one of the coastal ecosystem is able to grow in fluctuating water conditions. Mangrove areas are found on the Nusa Lembongan island, Bali, is a ??mangrove ecosystem that have the unique characteristics of water area. The mangrove area is located on one of the small islands in Bali that have no source of freshwater input and there is the entrance of water into the mangrove forest. The uniqueness of waters in mangrove ecosystem will affect the type and density of fauna associated, particularly mollusca. Mollusca are one of the animals that live and thrive in the mangrove ecosystem. Therefore, it is necessary to study which aimed to provide a description of the water quality and mollusca on mangrove ecosystem in Nusa Lembongan. This research was conducted in June 2015 on a six station observation. Measurement of water quality conducted on four water parameters such as temperature, DO, pH, and salinity. Observation on the type and density of mollusca done using transects squared (1 x 1 meter). The range of values ??obtained water quality parameters, such as; 1) salinity (32.00-34.33 ppm), 2) pH (7.06-7.96), 3) temperature (27.27-30.13 Celsius), and 4) DO (2.60-6.90 mg/l). Water quality parameter values ??obtained are still in the range of water quality standard and suitable place to live and grow for marine biota life. Dissolved oxygen (DO) value was still below the threshold quality standard. There six families of mollusca found in six observation station, such as Neritidae, Littorinidae, Columbellidae, Olividae, Carditidae, Muricidae, Potamidae, Certthiidae. The highest density was in Family Potamidae (1.83 ind/m2), so the Family Potamidae is able to adapt and have a wide area deployment.

Abstract

Denpasar City and Badung Regency has a very large population growth rate, diversity, and intensity of development activities that produced domestic waste which if not properly managed, causes burden and damage to the aquatic environment. Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Suwung-Denpasar is one of the wastewater treatment business for waste management center from the area around Denpasar, Sanur, and Kuta. Based on the data analysis was known that the waste generated has not been appropriate environmental quality standards so that will affect the quality of the water. The aim of his research is to investigate the effectiveness of domestic wastewater treatment conducted in March - April 2017 by observation method in process and effectiveness measurement of waste water treatment. The processing begins with the distribution of waste in Denpasar and Sanur areas that are channeled to the bar screen and then collected to the inflow pumping station to be channeled to the receiving tank including waste from the Kuta area. Subsequent waste flows into the chamber grit to be filtered and taken to the aeration pond for 2 days then to the sedimentation pool for 16 hours and flowed to the effluent canal. The results showed the percentage of effective waste treatment in oil and fat restoration 85%, detergent 62%, and BOD 57%, while not effective in ammonia change because only reduced 26%, DO and H2S are not in accordance with environmental quality standards.

Abstract

Fishes are an open access resource so that monitoring of fishing in the sea is very difficult. It is feared will lead to overfishing which eventually led to a drastic reduction in fish stocks in nature. So that people will be faced with the problem of scarcity of fish resources. One of the fish landing sites in Bali is Pangkalan Pendaratan Ikan (PPI) Kedonganan located in Fishery Management Area of Republic Indonesia (WPP-RI) 713. Therefore, it is necessary to understanding the current status of fish resources is very important in order to be a strong foundation in the management fisheries in PPI Kedonganan. The study was conducted by assessing five indicators of fish resources (fish size, yuwana fish, species composition, range collapse, and ETP species) by establishing a set of criteria, scores and weights and analyzed by multi-criteria analysis (MCA) approach. There found 16 species of catch fish with Cob Fish as dominant catch fish (54%). The trend of changes in fish size has increased significantly by + 90.18% of the initial length (Indicator of fish size). An average of 99% of fish catched were the target fish (Indicator of species composition). An average of 28.33% of fish catches included yuwana fish (Indicator of yuwana fish proportion). The results of interviews, it was found that 73% of fishermen state that fishing areas increasingly difficult from year to year (Indicator ranges collapse). There were <20% of fish catches including protected species (Scomberomorus commerson and Sphyrna lewini). It is also supported based on fisherman interview data that there were still protected fish such as turtles, sharks and rays that are caught but in small quantities (Indicator of ETP fish species). The result of composite analysis showed that the status of fish resources in Kedonganan was still very good with composite value of 86.1.

Abstract

Nusa Lembongan islands, Bali have a potential of coral reef diversity. Coral reefs have both ecological and high economic potential so that they are widely used. The economic benefits of coral reefs make these ecosystems very vulnerable to pressure from human activities. One of these human activities is the use of coral reefs in diving tourism activities. This research aimed to determine suitability and carrying capacity of coral reef ecosystem on Nusa Lembongan Island so that it can be recommended to manage coral reef ecosystem strategies to support the use of diving tourism. This study was conducted on six dive sites as observation points Observations on coral reef ecosystems were carried out using the intercept transect (LIT) method, and reef fish observation was carried out using the fish visual census method. Water quality sampling will be done in situ. Diving suitability was carried out by estimating the tourist suitability index (IKW) of six parameters, namely the brightness of the waters, coral community cover, coral life form, reef fish species, coral reef depth and current. The tourism suitability index value for the diving tourism category obtained was 74.07% (Jack Mangrove); 57.41% (Crystal Bay); and 61.11% (Manta Bay). The value for each observation point is included in the appropriate category of 50% -75%. It can be interpreted, that all observation points which are dive sites in Nusa Lembongan have supported diving tourism activities. Keywords: Tourism Suitability Index; Diving; Nusa lembongan.

Abstract

Coastal ecosystem is a productive ecosystem and has high ecological and economic value. Coastal ecosystem components, consist of coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves and various types of biota. The seagrass ecosystem is one of the most unique coastal ecosystems because the seagrass can live well in high salinity conditions. Seagrass ecosystem in Bali Island has many adventages and widely used for marine tourism activities. One of the marine tourism sites, that take advantage of the beauty of the seagrass ecosystem in Bali is Sanur beach. The utilization of seagrass ecosystem for marine tourism activities might be influence the structure of seagrass community. Therefore, the study about Community Structure of Seagrass Ecosystem at Intertidal Area in Sanur Beach is very important to carried out in order to investigate the structure of the seagrass ecosystem community. Samples were taken in the intertidal zone at six observation stations. At each station, it was conducted three times perpendicular repetition to the shoreline. Seagrass observation was done by using quadratic transect (50 × 50 cm). The types of seagrass found in Sanur Beach were 6 species, namely Cymodocea serrulata, Cymodocea rotundata, Halophila ovalis, Halodule uninervis, Halodule pinifolia, and Syringodium isoetifolium. Cymodocea serrulata is a seagrass-type found in every observation station, and it able to live well in Sanur Beach water characteristics. The highest average of seagrass species density is shown by the Cymodocea serrulata species of 175.11 stands/m2, while, the highest average of seagrass species density is shown by the Halodule pinifolia species of 27.33 stands/m2. The average of diversity, uniformity and dominance index at Sanur Beach reach 0.8682; 0.7347; and 0.4987, respectively. In Sanur Beach area, the seagrass has high uniformity value and stable community. The instability community has been found at station 2 when the dominance of Cymodocea serrulata species was occurred.
