Abstract

G. PANGGABEAN, J. HANSON & N. WULIJARNI - SOETJIPTO 1987. The effect of drying on the viability of Citrus seeds. Berita Biotogi 3(7):330 - 332. The effect tesistence drought on the germination of 4 species of the Citrus seeds were studied under the laboratory conditions. The germination of the C.amblycarpa and C. aurantifolia seeds were still high at the moisture content less than 10 %. Meanwhile, the germination of C. grandis seeds were high at 10 % moisture content but the viability of the seeds were low at the moisture content below 10 %.Various methods of drying were investigated on the C. reticulata seeds. The best germination of the seeds were treated prior drying the seeds under the laboratory conditions. The germination of the seeds decreased rapidly under silica gel, dehumidifier and drying in the oven at 40°C.

Abstract

SITI SUNARTI. 1987. Distribution and regeneration of Burseraceae in a lowland dipterocarp forest at Wanaiiset, East Kalimantan. Berita Biologi,3 (7) : 333 - 341. A study on distribution and regeneration of Burseraceae was carried out in a 5.25 ha plot of a lowland dipterocarp forest in East Kalimantan. A total of 94 mature trees, 699 saplings, and 3511 seedlings were recorded. Mapping and pattern analysis (using Morisita method) indicate that, adult and juvenile trees have clustered distributional patterns. Positive corelations between regeneration and gap size were observed in saplings and seedlings of Dacryodes and in sjplings of Santiria spp. No such corelation was noted in Canadian spp.

Abstract

G. PANGGABEAN, H. ROCHAENI, I. VIVANINGDIAH & P. CITROREKSOKO. 1987. The effect of KM11O4 on physical and chemical consituents during the ripening of "pisang ambon" Suppl. Berita Biologi 3 : 11 - 16.The experiments were conducted in order to study the effect of potassium permanganate (KMnO) on the physical characteristic and biochemical constituents of the pisang Ambon at difference stage of maturity such as 70, 80 and 90 days. The concentrations of the KMnO4 were 0, 75, 100 and 125 ppm.The parameters of the physical characteristic were the colour, moisture content and the firmness of the fruits. While the biochemical constituents were the reducing sugar, caroten and the vitamin C content. The results of the treatment indicated that the colour, moisture content and firmness almost similar to the fruits as the control. The reducing sugar fruits of the age 70 days with the treatment of KMnO4 75 ppm was higher than that of the fruits of the age 80 and 90 days. However, all the fruits which were treated with KMnO4 had no affect on the caroten content.Meanwhile, the vitamin C content of the treated fruits were lower than that of the fruits without treatment. The pH of ripening fruits were not significantly difference between treated and untreated fruits.

Abstract

MUSTARIM SILUBA. 1987.Species abundance Corbicula possoensis and Melanoides granifera Mollusca) in Poso Lake, Central Sulawesi.Berita Bioiogi 3(7): 317 - 320. Corbicula possoensis and Meianoideu granifera are the two dominant species among 18 species of the mollusca that occured in poso Lake. The highly abundance of these two species distributed among three habitat types, i.e. sandy. mudsand, and gTavelly habitat. The study showed that the abundance of C. possoensis is 126,66/m2 in "sandy habitat, 118,66/m2 in mudsand habitat, and 51,00/m2 in gravelly habitat respectively. The abundance of M. granifera was lower then C. possoensis, i.e. 53,00/m2 in sandy habitat, 91.00/m2 in mudsand habitat, and 51,33/m2 in gravelly habitat. It is suggested that the references is done to their preference and their feeding technique.

Abstract

DARJONO & DEWI MALIA PRAWIRADILAGA 1987. Effect of level of Phaseolus lunatus seeds in the native chicken ration on feed consumption, and body weight gain Suppl. Berita Biologi 3 :61 -65. The experiment was aimed to obtain a basic guide of the amount of P., lunatus in chicken ration during growing period. Observation using 25 cockerels and 25 pullers, was based on Completely Randomized Design. The treatment consisted of level of P. lunatus in the ration, namely RK (as control ration), RI, RII, RIII, and RIV, containing 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% respectively. Data was analyzed using Analysis of Variant, and the difference was tested by Honestly Significant Different Test. The results showed that the level of P. lunatus up to 20% had no significant effect (P > 0,05), on feed consumption and body weight gain during growing period. The highest feed efficiency for the cockerels was RI (0,0593) followed by RK (0,0559), RIII (0,0506), RIV (0,0478), and RII (0,0350) respectively; whereas for the pullets was RII (0,0267) followed by RK (0,0262), RI (0,0225), RIII (0,0220), and RIV (0,0102) respectively.

Abstract

M. DJAJASASMITA. 1987. The apple-snail Pilaampulacea: its food and reproduction (Gastropoda: ampullariidaej. Berita Biologi 3(7) : 342 - 346. The food and reproduction of the apple-snail Pila ampullacea have been studied in the laboratory, reared in aquarium, fed with dead papaya leaves (Carica papaya) and water hyacinths (Eichhomia. crassipes); shrimp crips and fish pellets which are fed by way of trial, were readily eaten. The eggs, 5-10 mm in diameter, are laid in clusters of 15-50 or more, on the aquarium walls about 10 cm off water level. In its natural habitat, in Lake Maja; West Java, the eggs clusters are found stickedon the stems of the kirai palms (Metroxylon rumphii) (which grow densely in the lake) about 75 cm above water level. In the ponds of the Bogor Botanical Garden, the egg cluster were attached on the stems of the aquatic plants (Cyperus papyrus, Hanguana malayana, Sagittaria lancifolia and Thali geniculata) 20-70 cm off the water edge. The egg cluster is covered by a calcareous layer, it is presumed, that this calcareous covering may absorbed dew/rain water, to prevent the eggs desiccating, Some egg clusters laid in the laboratory which are not provided by calcareous layer (it seems due to the physiological disturbance) were desiccating and failed to hatch. The females may deposit 1-2 egg clusters monthly in the rainy season, or may not at,all in the dry season. The peak of the spawning is coincided with the rainy season.
