Abstract

Cempirit [Ervatamia svhaerocarva Burck.(Apocynaceae)] is a sticky plant found in Indonesia. This species had long been used as traditional medicine for skin diseases and ulceration of nose.Major biologically active compound was isolated from bark of E.sphaerocarDa by using combination of chromatography techniques (Thin Layer Chromatography,Colum Chromatography and High Performance Liquid Chromatography). The structure of this compound was elucidated by spectroscopic methods, mainly by NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectral. This compound was determined as indole alkaloide called Tabernaemontanine.

Abstract

Study on the comparison between allantoin (5 ¢ ureidohydantoin) and Betadine ® (povidone iodine) was conducted to compare and evaluate their efficacy, especially to accelerate wound (incision) healing. Treatment divided into three groups, first group is Control (without therapy), second group is allantoin treatment and the last one is Betadine ® treatment. Allantoin obtained from cattle's urine by Meissner method. The solution made of 2,4 grams of allantoin in 600 milliliters aqueous solution. Treatments (therapies) were given three times a day topically. Results showed no significant difference between allantoin and Betadine ® treatments (p > 0,05), control and the other treatments i.e allantoin and Betadine ® therapies have significantly difference (p < 0,01).

Abstract

Examination of morphological variation on Maxomys surifer from Sumatra, Jawa and Kalimantan were conducted using 60 adult specimens.Univariate and multivariate statistical analyses of 20 skull and four external characters showed that Maxomys surifer was not sexually dimorphic (P >0.05). The discriminant analysis based on skull characters indicated that Sumatran population had two distinct group; north (Ketambe and Tapanuli) and South to Central Sumatra, the north of Sumatra form was closer to Kalimantan and Jawa.

Abstract

A study on floral biology of red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. rubra) was conducted to approach the floral characters and natural obstacles affecting their sexual reproduction. In vivo observation was directly carried out at Treub Laboratory, The R & D Center for Biology, LIPI, mainly on final development aspects of flower: flowering process, anthesis periodicity and pattern, and pollen fertility. The results showed that commonly there was one of more than 20 spikelets in a spike anthesized perday. Final development stage began to be distinguishable from 6.00 or 7.00 am of anthesis day. Anthesis was always begin after 02.00 pm where the earliest was occurred at 02.04 while the latest was 02.55 pm and consist at least of three stages as is initiation, half and full anthesis. The initiation stage was remarkable by calyx breakage, divided into two types of breakage: -type A (directly break, 58.33%) and -type B (indirectly break, 41.67%).The type B group tend to haa shorter duration of anthesis than type A.Generally this variety of ginger has some negative floral characters base on fertility and fruit or seed setting ability such as very low in anthesis frequency, relatively snort duration of anthesis and inefficient stigma anther locality. In other side, this variety also has positive characters of flower such as enough pollen fertility (32 - 45%), low level in flower abortion and never closing flower even at the of the anthesis process

Abstract

Research on the cultivated of mushroom of Lactarius gp.had been conducted in Wamena,Jayawijaya district of Irian Jay a. There were 6 kinds of media which consisted of 2 kinds of sawdust wood (Nothofaeus sp.and Paraserianthes falcataria). Each sawdust wood added in 3 level of nutrition (0%, 50% and 100%).The experimental design which had been used was factorial which arranged with completely randomized design by using 10 replications. The result showed that the micellia had grown on all of media. However, the fruiting body formation occured on the media which made of P.falcataria sawdust added in 0%; 50% and 100% nutrition and on the Nothofagus sp sawdust added in 100% nutrition. The highest yield of fruiting body had been showed on P. falcataria sawdust medium added in 100% nutrition.

Abstract

Research on the effect of weight and composition of media, temperature and chemically stimulation on fruiting body formation of shiitake (Lentinus edodes) had been done in Wamena, Jayawijaya district, Irian Jay a. The research consisted of three experiments. The first experiment consisted of 3 kinds of media such as media A, B and C(A- sawdust and 100% standard nutrition; B = sawdust and 50% standard nutrition; and C = sawdust without nutrition) and three kinds of temperatures were 20°C (room temperature),4°C (refrigerator temperature) and -10°C(freezer temperature). The second experiment used 4 kinds of media. They were media D, E, F and G which were stimulated by SnCh, CoCh, salicilic acid and the extract of bark of "Seno" (Castanopsis acuminatissima). The third experiment used medium B, weight 500 g and 1000 g (medium H and I).The result showed that medium H& I produced the highest fruiting body. However medium I produced the higher fruiting body compare to medium H).The added of the extract of the bark of C. acuminatissima.SnCh, CoCh and salicilic acid stimulated the fruiting body formation.

Abstract

The results of 18 palms species studied showed that there were three species (Livistona chinensis (Jack) R.Br.ex Mart,Thrinax sp.and Sabal meeacarpg Small) which their cotyledone growth under ground level (group I), their first leaf did not cleave, these had two types of germination i.e. remote tubular (L. chinensis and Thrinax sp.)and remote ligular (S. meeacarpa).Thirthteen species (Heterosphate elata Scheff, Archonthophoenic alexandrae Wendl.& Drude, Areca triandra Roxb., Bentinckia nicobarica (Kurz.) Becc, Chrvsalidocarpus sp., C. lutescens H. Wendl.,Cvrtostachvs eleeans Burret, C.renda Blume, Drvmoploeus pachvcladus H.E.Moore, Neodypsis decarvi Jumelle,Oenocarpus panamanus L.H.Bailey, Pthvchosperma eleeans (R.Br.) Blume and Pritchardia pacifica Seem. & H.Wendl.) produce their cotyledone near ground level (group H), their first leaf cleft into two parts except on the species O. panamanus cleft into four parts, all of these species had adjacent ligular type of germination. There was large variability on the germination. The range of first germination was 12105 days after sowing, last germination was in the range of 78-212 days and the germinationpersentage was 1.3-94.0%.
