Abstract

Makassar Strait as an area of marine waters located on the west coast of South Sulawesi that has the potential of milkfish resources with considerable production. The production of milkfish is quite high and almost covers all provinces in Indonesia. Total milkfish production in 2014 reached 631,125 tons Or 14.74 percent of the total production of aquaculture fish. Its large potential is directly proportional to the quantity of waste- fish scales produced. Utilization of chitosan in waste- fish scales become bioplastics for the manufacture of environmentally friendly disposable cutlery is expected to be a smart solution in an effort to reduce the impact of contamination of waste- fish scales. Chitin content on the scales is isolated by demineralization and deproteination treatment. This study used waste scales from milkfish (Chanoschanos). Chitin is then produced through deacetylation treatment to produce chitosan compounds. A number of chitosan are dissolved in acetic acid then mixed with sorbitol to produce a bioplastics solution which can then be molded and dried to produce bioplastics. This study varied between commercial chitosan and chitosan fish scales with a certain ratio.Keywords: Bioplastics, Milkfish, Chitosan

Abstract

Food as the main of human needs. So, all the sectors that could suppport the advance of plant productivity should be concerned, such as by using the right applied methods. Plant productivity could be increased by fixing their physicology responses to spur plant growth. The using of chemical substances to spur the plant growth have to be switched by using biofertilizer as an alternative through formulation technology of Rhizobacteria based on local materials to support agricultural bioindutry. In the root there are beneficials bacteria which are involved in Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) that could increase the ability of root to absorb soil nutrient and plant hormones synthesis naturally. Endophytics bacteria are founded in the certain of plants root could be isolated and manipulated into biofertilizer product. Generally there are 3 steps in the making process of PGPR : starter making, nutrient making, and fermentation. In this reasearch the endophytics bacteria are isolated from leguminosae root which has a symbiotic with Rhizobium sp.,  maize (Zea mays sp.) root and bamboo (Bambusa sp.) root which has a symbiotic with Bacillus sp. dan Pseudomonas sp. PGPR utilizes microbacteria as a biological agens that could keep the availability of soil nutrients and increase quality and healthy of soil (soil remediator). In addition of the microbacteria function are : to produce antibiotics, patogen competitor, and to produce plant growth hormone which support plant physicological process.Keywords: Endophytic Bacteria, Biofertilizer, Food, PGPR, Rhizobacteria

Abstract

The first step to detect the further risk of foot ulcer in diabetic patients is checking the diabetic food by using the Doppler Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) and monofilament test. However, these tools are not available yet in Indonesia. Therefore, it is needed the alternative of Doppler ABI and monofilament test. This study aims to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of Ipswich test and palpation of the Dorsal Pedal and Posterior Tibial pulses. The current study was observational by using cross-sectional design and quantitative approach. The data collection is conducted through direct observation and questionnaire. In addition, the data analyses done are a description of the data while data interpretation based on the result of sensitivity and specificity test. The result showed that from four Community Health Center (Puskesmas) namely, Puskesmas Mangasa, Puskesmas Antang, Puskesmas Sudiang, and Puskesmas Jumpandang Baru, the sensitivity of Ipswich Touch Test (IpTT) to Monofilament Test ranged from 72.7% to 100%. In addition, the specificity test of IpTT to Monofilament Test was 33.3% to 100%. Meanwhile, the result of palpation of the Dorsal Pedal and Posterior Tibial pulses compared to Doppler ABI results 100% in sensitivity but the specificity was not available. This study shows that checkup with diabetic foot alternatively can be used to detect the risk of foot ulcer which simple, practice, and without special competency in usage.Keywords: checkup diabetic foot, Ipswich touch test, palpation, diabetes mellitus, diabetic foot ulcer

Abstract

Bamboo plants have long been known as the raw material for souvenir products, but the diversity of bamboo products is limited to the basic shape of the cylinder, the segments, and the hollow. Application of lamination technology is useful to shape bamboo as desired. Laminate bamboo technology has been widely developed, but limited to the purpose of construction and furniture. However, the use of technology for souvenir purposes remain limited. This research is conducted to identify the characteristics of souvenir products made from raw laminated Petung bamboo. Petung (Denrocalanus asper) is chosen because the blade is thick and the diameter is relatively large compare to other bamboo species. This type of souvenir product used in this research is board and beam based. Identification of product characteristics is done by qualitative method (interview) and quantitative (observation of defective products). Souvenir products made from raw bamboo laminate tend to have a higher aesthetic value than solid wood products. The results showed that the average defect-free value of souvenir products was 66%, and included in defect-free class II, with good machining quality. Of the 30 respondents interviewed related to the perception of bamboo laminate products, 53% of respondents said the type of product is interesting, while 36% said very interesting. On the scale of 1-10, most of the respondents choose 8 and 9. It indicates that the uniqueness, function, and distinctiveness of the product are important for the respondents. The additional future such as better shape and function adjustment, and improved finishing quality will further enhance consumer interest in bamboo laminate souvenir products.Keywords: Bamboo, Characteristics, Laminate, Souvenir.

Abstract

Utilization of alternative energy sources is still very minimal in the area of Losari Beach. Noise from visitors can be used as an alternative energy source in Losari Beach area. Sound saves potential energy that can be generated. In the process of utilization, piezoelectric material will be given input from the noise of the visitors of Losari Beach beach. This research will analyze the electrical energy generated (power on LED lamp) from piezoelectric material to various condition in Losari Beach area. The results of the study found the amount of output generated when the piezoelectric material is not coupled in series is 0.7 volts, while at the time strung in series reaches 1.9 volts. Abstract

Preeclampsia is a major cause of maternal and child morbidity and mortality worldwide, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. Pregnant women with insufficient iodine can trigger hypothyroidism and further preeclampsia. Seaweed contains essential Iodine for pregnant women and can be an alternative prevention of preeclampsia in pregnant women. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the management and development of seaweed biscuits as the potential food to prevent hypertension in pregnant women. The current study was experimental study with pretest - posttest control group design. A total 14 samples were selected by purposive sampling method from all pregnant women in Tamalanrea sub-district as the population. The results showed that the effectiveness of management and provision of BISRULA has not been significant to reduce the blood pressure of pregnant women (p>0.05). This is due to only a few numbers of samples obtained in this study. It was difficult to find the appropriate sample based on the criteria and also because of the short duration of research so that it is difficult to prove the effectiveness of BISRULA. Furthermore, the measuring tool used has not detailed to examine the changes occurring in samples. Therefore, these findings can be suggestions for conducting further research in the future.Keywords: preeclampsia, iodine deficiency, hypertension, seawed

Abstract

Abstract: RTH or also called green open space is an open space without a building, having certainsize, shape, and geographical boundaries with any status of mastery, in which there are woodyand annual green plants, with trees as the main plant and other plants (shrubs, grasses and othercover plants), as complementary plants and other objects that also complement and support thefunctions of the respective green space. RTH and urban forest found in the city of Makassar hasdecreased and not functioned optimally. In addition, RTH in the city of Makassar has not providedan educational function. Therefore, RTH in Makassar city needs to be developed by creating anarea such as agro-tourism area. One of location that has good potential and has been developedas one of the green open space and urban forest in Makassar is Maccini Sombala Site. MacciniSombala is an area located on Nuri Baru sub-district Tamalate of Makassar. Therefore, a MOIplanning concept is created as an agro-tourism area. This research aims to make MOI areaplanning as edu-agro-tourism area. The usefulness of this research is a consideration for thegovernment in the development of the area and other areas with other similar functions. Abstract

Bilimbi or cucumber tree often be used from almost all parts of the plant as a traditional medicine. In addition, people often use the leaves as a material for insects, especially to make flies away from food. The information of local knowledge that bilimbi leaves contains insect control. The purpose of this study was to control of subterranean termites attack using extract of bilimbi (Averrhoa bilimbi L) leaves.  The powder of the plant leaves was extracted using ethanol solution. The extracts were then prepared in different concentrations, namely 2%, 4%, and 6%. Paper discs with 25 mm diameter were immersed in the each of the concentration. The other treated paper discs used chlorpyrifos as positive treatment. Untreated paper discs were also prepared as control. In this study, only one of tests were applied, which were contact poison. The effectiveness of the extract was determined based on the termite mortality and weight loss of the paper discs. Results showed that treatment has a very significant effect on the value of mortality. Treatment of various concentrations of bilimbi leaf extract significantly different from the control and termiticide. Treatment of bilimbi leaf extract concentration and termitisida show 100% mortality whereas control only amounted to 23.64%. Keywords: Averrhoa bilimbi L, control, termite, extract, effectiveness

Abstract

South Sulawesi has great potential of marine resources. This makes the commodity of the sea as one of the mainstay sources of local revenue in South Sulawesi. Riskesdas 2013 results show that the incidence of obesity among the main children at the age of 5-12 years reached a percentage of 18.8%. Seaweed C. racemosa is a food rich in protein and amino acids, rich in soluble or insoluble fiber, and low in fat, so it has the potential to be processed into an alternative food for obese people. One type of processed foods that children favor today is the sausage. Sausages are generally made from beef or chicken meat. Accordingly, it is developed innovation of sausage products made from seaweed Caulerparacemosa as an alternative food of obese people as well as a healthy culinary typical of Makassar, South Sulawesi, which is rich in fiber but low in fat. This research is conducted by the stages of sausage formulation and then the product is tested by organoleptis and hedonic. From this research, it can be concluded that the best Low Fat High Protein sausage formulation is the 2nd formula (F2) with the main composition of tapioca substitution of lawi-lawi (Caulerparacemosa) porridge, as compared to F1 with lawi-lawi powder composition (Caulerparacemosa). The panelist's favorite presentation in general is F1: 65%; F2: 75%, and protein content of F1: 3,87%; F2: 3.93%, and fat content of F1: 5.02%; F2: 7.89%.Keywords: Lawi-lawi, Caulerparacemosa, sausage, obesity

Abstract

Doping used for stamina enhancement and athletes' performance is actually a medicine that has negative effects on health and potentially causes an addiction. Therefore, it is necessary supplements that can increase the stamina and endurance of an athlete and at the same time could minimize the possibility of doping usage. Bee pollen is one of the products of bees which is rich nutrients. The nutrients content of Bee pollen such as carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, minerals, vitamins, and polyphenols is needed by athletes to increase the endurance and stamina in their activities. To enrich its bioactive components, bee pollen extract and fresh bee pollen powder are combined and called Bee Pollen Plus. The current study was Quasi-Experimental with Non-randomized Pre-Post Test Control Group model design by comparing before and after of bee pollen plus intervention. The preparation of bee pollen plus capsule is started with bee pollen extraction followed by the preparation of bee pollen capsule. By the process, it is obtained 18.48% of rendamen percent. The chemical compound analysis showed the protein, carbohydrate and polyphenol levels of bee pollen plus two times higher than bee pollen powder. The intervention of bee pollen plus capsule was provided for 1 week to the student in football activity unit of Hasanuddin University. The running time, blood pressure, pulse rate, body temperature, and breathing frequency were calculated after physical exercise by using the treadmill. The result obtained shows the increased physical performance especially for running time and pulse rate. It can be concluded that the bee pollen plus capsule has been effective to increase the stamina and endurance of the athlete after physical exercise.Keywords: athlete, doping, bee pollen extract, bee pollen powder, nutrient
