Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze and determine the effect of earnings management, managerial ownership, and firm size on environmental disclosure by environmental performance as moderation. Non-financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2014-2017 as many as 385 companies were taken as the population in this study. The use of purposive sampling method produced 64 units of analysis from 16 companies. Moderate regression analysis through absolute number differences was applied as a data analysis technique using the IBM SPSS 24 Program. The results of this study indicate that earnings management, managerial ownership, and firm size do not have significant effect on environmental disclosure. In addition, environmental performance does not significantly moderate the effect of earnings management on environmental disclosure and does not significantly moderate the effect of firm size on environmental disclosure. Environmental performance can only significantly moderate the effect of managerial ownership on environmental disclosure. This study concludes that only managerial ownership driven by environmental performance will affect the extent of the company’s environmental disclosure.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of business risk, Fixed Asset Ratio (FAR), and Time Interest Earned (TIE) on capital structure with profitability as a moderating variable. The main theories in this research are trade-off theory and signal theory. The population in this study were 155 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2015-2017. The sample selection used a purposive sampling technique and selected 90 companies with 235 units of analysis. The analysis techniques used descriptive statistical analysis, inferential analysis, and moderated regression analysis (MRA) which processed through IBM SPSS 23. The results show that business risk and time interest earned have a significant negative effect on the capital structure while fixed asset ratio has a significant positive effect on capital structure. Profitability is able to moderate the effect of fixed asset ratios on the capital structure but is not able to moderate the influence of business risk and time interest earned on capital structure. The conclusion of the study is that business risk has a negative effect significant to the capital structure and fixed asset ratio has significant positive effects on capital structure. This can be used as the basis that companies must be careful when raising external funds because it can affect the efficiency and profitability of the company.

The sample in this study was included as saturated samples so that the total sample was 43 companies with 132 units of analysis. The data analysis techniques used were descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis in Eviews9. The results show that environmental performance has a significant positive effect on carbon emission disclosure. Meanwhile, company size, profitability, and media exposure do not affect on carbon emission disclosure. Then, institutional ownership weakens the effect of environmental performance on carbon emission disclosure. Institutional ownership also cannot moderate the effect of company size, profitability, and media exposure on carbon emission disclosure. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the factor that is proven to affect carbon emission disclosure is environmental performance. Further researchers are advised to use other measuring devices so that they can get results from other perspectives.
