There were positive politeness strategies used in the utterances with the highest data was performed by the give gifts sub-strategy 12,95%; and the lowest data was performed by assert or presuppose speaker’s knowledge sub-strategy 1,78%. Abstract

Using two languages, Arabic and English, at the same place and taking turns time, is one of the problems faced by some santri at Islamic boarding schools or pesantren. This study aimed at investigating the impact of English language learning strategies used by santri during the pesantren speech program on their speaking ability. This study applied a qualitative approach, specifically case study design. Observation, interview, and documentation were conducted to collect the research data. Also, the theory of language learning strategies by Oxford (2013) was used for analyzing the research data. The result of this study showed that the 12 participants used all types of language learning strategies, namely 1) memory strategies, 2) cognitive strategies, 3) compensation strategies, 4) metacognitive strategies, 5) affective strategies, and 6) social strategies. The percentage showed that 92% of the santri used memory strategies, 50% used cognitive strategies, 17% used compensation strategies, 75% used metacognitive strategies, 33% used affective strategies, and the last 100% of santri used social strategies in pesantren speech activity. All participants in this study stated that speech activities at Islamic boarding schools positively enhanced their speaking ability. It can be seen when they deliver speeches in front of an audience. They can improve their spoken language more than the text they made before. Thus, it can be concluded that speech programs could positively improve students’ speaking skills.

Abstract

This study was aimed to discover the types of processes used Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA) to study the relationship between Visual, Lingual, and Written text, and how they influence the authors to analyze of Artificial Intelligence Video’ Alexandr Wang speech in TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) talks YouTube channel. Artificial intelligence is a set of sciences, theories, and techniques whose purpose is to reproduce by a machine the cognitive abilities of a human being. Machine-based systems can give a set of human-defined objectives and make predictions, recommendations, or decisions that influence real or virtual environments. AI systems interact with us and act on our environment directly or indirectly. Often, they appear to operate autonomously and can adapt their behavior by learning about the context, (UNICEF 2021: 16). AI systems are algorithmic models that carry out cognitive or perceptual functions in the world that were previously reserved for thinking, judging, and reasoning human beings. (Leslie et al. 2021: 8). MDA is a term that is used to refer to the way people communicate using different modes at the same time (Kress & van Leeuwen, 1996), which is defined as the use of several semiotic methods in product design, or semiotic events simultaneously, and in a certain way these modes combined with strengthening, compliment, or be in a certain arrangement (Kress and van Leeuwen, 2001).

Teaching preparation plays a vital role in teaching as the preparation which describes the elements will be used in teaching. It provides the basis for instructional focus and content. This research is aimed to describe the implementation of Differentiated Instruction Lesson Plan for Junior High School Students in The Practice of Teaching English For Adult Learners (Teal) Course In The Second Half Of 2021 At Satya Wacana Christian University. This study was described from the perspective of qualitative research which employ a case study design which observed which focuses on analysing and describing the development of lesson plan, implementing lesson plan, Differentiated Instruction, and the practice of teaching in compatible Kurikulum Merdeka for Junior High School students in The Practice of TEAL course. The subject of this study were 8 student-teachers joining the Practice of TEAL course (microteaching) in the second half of 2021 at Satya Wacana Christian University, Salatiga who participated in the research. Whereas, the object of this study was the teacher –trainees designing a Differentiated Instruction lesson plan for Junior High School students and its implementation in the Practice of TEAL course. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaires, written interview, and classroom observation and all of the items were analysed qualitatively using content analysis. The result of this research showed that first, teacher-trainees had fulfilled all the elements in designing the lesson plan (identity, Objective of Learning, Learning Material, Learning Activity, Selection of Media, Selection of Learning Source, and Evaluation). Secondly, teacher-trainees had made the differentiation of learning visible in their teaching, in terms of readiness, learning profile, and interest. In addition, the researcher found out that most teacher-trainees had made progress in the most frequently occurring weaknesses from the first teaching to the next four but however they found most difficulty in formulating the objective of the learning. Lastly, the research described the effectiveness of Differentiated Instruction Lesson Plan since it facilitated supportive learning for heterogeneous learners. implementing lesson plan, Differentiated Instruction, and the practice of teaching in compatible Kurikulum Merdeka for Junior High School students in The Practice of TEAL course. Abstract

Speaking is a God-given human ability to communicate with one another using voices and language that other humans can recognize. The education team hopes that students will be able to employ and master speaking strategies as a result of teaching and learning activities both inside and outside the classroom using the Technology SAMR (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, Redefinition) Model. The study aims to determine whether there is a significant difference in student’s ability to speak English when using the SAMR Model compared to when using the Manual Model and also to learn about the experiences students have while learning to use the SAMR Model. This study conducts quasi-experimental research in order to collect significant improvement data on the use of the SAMR model to improve students' ability to speak procedure text. Taking the results of the pre-test and post-test scores on the type of presentation test and showing a high level of agreement between researchers and observers, the t-test and ANCOVA test showed a significant change in student learning outcomes, indicating that the SAMR Model follows the requested process and has an impact on student learning.
