Abstract

Strategies that give room for children’s active involvement during teaching activities have a high probability of bringing about all-round development and learning in them in all areas, especially science. Pre-primary children have less exposure to science related activities possibly because of the strategy adopted during teaching activities, which might likely affect their acquisition of science knowledge and processing skills later. Hence, this study adopted game-based and exploratory strategies to engage the pre-primary children in some concepts in pre-primary science. The purposive random sampling technique was used to select three pre-primary public schools in one local government. Two were assigned to experimental groups of game-based and exploratory strategies respectively while one was assigned to the control group. 59 pre-primary children participated. Pre-test-post-test control group quasi-experimental design was adopted. Six research questions were answered and three hypotheses were tested at a 0.05 level of significance. Five research instruments were used to collect data. Data were analysed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and Scheffe posthoc test. Results showed significant effects of treatments on pre-primary children’s science knowledge and processing skills. There were mean gains of 2.0 (game-based); 1.63 (explorative) and 0.55 (conventional) points in science knowledge. There were also mean gains of 19.45 (game-based); 20.58 (exploratory) and 10.55 (conventional) points in the processing skills of pre-primary children. The exploratory strategy was more effective than the game based on science process skills and knowledge. The conventional strategy was less effective than the two. Game-based and exploratory strategies were recommended for pre-primary teachers in teaching science concepts. Abstract

This research reports teachers’ pedagogical choices in teaching social studies in lower primary classrooms in Nigeria. It is believed that neglecting the prescribed curriculum and teachers’ pedagogical choices impacts social studies objectives. The research intended to (a) explore the pedagogical approaches prescribed in the social studies curriculum for primaries one and two, (b) to understand teachers’ pedagogical preferences in teaching primary one and two learners’ social studies, and (c) to examine teachers’ application of free play and mutually directed play pedagogies in teaching primary one and two social studies. The study was conducted in Okigwe Education Zone, Imo State, Nigeria, using a qualitative research approach and a generic qualitative research design. The study participants were made up of primary one and two teachers of social studies (three primary one teachers and three primary two teachers) and primary one and two social studies curriculum documents. The participants were purposively sampled with the criteria that the teachers and social studies curriculum documents must be for the primary one and two learners in the Okigwe Education zone of Imo State. Data collection involved semi-structured interviews and documents, which were analysed using document and thematic data analysis. Findings indicate that whereas teachers were conversant in using teacher-led pedagogies, facilitating learning using free play was lacking. It was also discovered that teachers scarcely used resource persons, field trips, illustrations and experiential learning approaches in facilitating social studies. In conclusion, professional development training for teachers to adequately incorporate free play or learner-led pedagogies was recommended.

Abstract

It is important to pay attention to the early childhood learning environment at this time, this has something to do with the leadership style of the school principal. Constraints that are still a problem because the initiative of a leader is still low in carrying out dynamic updates and changes in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) environment, so this can have an impact on performance. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between transformational leadership and building partnerships on the performance of ECE principals. The methodology uses quantitative data collection methods based on observation and questionnaires. The research sample consisted of 30 ECE principals selected by random sampling with consideration of school qualifications and experience as school principals. The data analysis technique uses inferential statistics with the SPSS-assisted Independent Samples Test. The findings show that transformational leadership and building partnerships have a significant relationship to the performance of ECE principals. The transformational style can delegate tasks or jobs to teachers, and involve teachers in decision making, pay attention to subordinates, and create a sporty and family work environment. Building partnerships can be started with parents and can then be carried out with the community environment to increase electability and synergy of strong cooperative relationships in achieving optimal educational goals.

Abstract

The purpose of the research to be carried out is to analyze the Android-based SOAG learning media, the planning process for making SOAG learning media and the use of SOAG media to hone children's thinking power. The research subjects were children aged 5-6 years of PAUD Toddies School, with a population sampling technique through non-probability sampling a total of 27 students. So that the sample is taken from the entire population. Data collection techniques from the implementation of this study used observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis used is qualitative data analysis by referring to the concept of Miles and Huberman with an emphasis on data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The result of this research is that the process of implementing the SOAG game (Senang Otak Atik Gambar) can be carried out from planning, learning practice and evaluation. In the planning stage, the teacher must make the RPPH more attractive. The learning practice stage uses the SOAG game (Senang Otak Atik Gambar), at this stage the teacher is able to convey the material in more detail, using different teaching styles and methods than usual. As the teacher explains with a visual learning style. The evaluation stage of the SOAG game (Senang Otak Atik Gambar) uses observations and interviews given to children and teachers in providing assessments. This evaluation is an important tool for teachers to determine the level of success of children in improving their cognitive abilities through the SOAG game (Senang Otak Atik Gambar). The conclusion of this study is that the SOAG game learning media (Senang Otak Atik Gambar) is very appropriate and effective to use to optimally hone children's high-level thinking power.

Abstract

The 4.0 or often referred to as the z generation (net) is an extremely close generation with the technological sophistication capable of presenting various forms of information in both positive and negative forms easily and openly. This surely requires special attention from parents, teachers, and the community in watching over children so as not to be susceptible to the negative information they receive. Good character children are at stake if they cannot use technology wisely. The emergence of cases of moral or destructive degradation is one of the results of the misuse of the information technology. The purpose of this study is to discuss how the effort can be made to prevent children from falling into the adverse effects of modern technological sophistication is to develop islamic character as a foundation for children's development through literally-based education toward the islamic figure. The writer use the library reseach approach to obtain data and information on the literary-based education of a figure of Islam as an effort to develop the child content of the relevant literature. So the end result of this study was to theorize about how education-based islamists developed the character of islamic children in 4.0.

Abstract

Children are dynamic individuals and have the urge to be curious about everything. This research aims to develop children's fine motor skills through Art Project Practice activities at TK Pertiwi Sidorekso, Kudus, Indonesia. The research subjects consist of 7 boys and 10 girls. The Art Project Practice carried out is assembling and coloring the giant APE sub-theme of land transportation equipment. The method used is mixed methods with an exploratory sequential research design. This research was conducted in stages (sequential) where the researcher firstly started by exploring qualitative data and analyzing it then using the findings in the qualitative phase to develop instruments and analyze them quantitatively. While the collecting data applies interviews, observations, documentation and questionnaires. Qualitative data analysis uses data reduction, data presentation and draw conclusions. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statics. The instrument obtained can be used to measure children's fine motor development. The results showed that Art Project Practice making and coloring giant APE could improve children's fine motor skills by 22%. The indicators of fine motor development assessed were assembling the giant APE pattern, cutting geometric shapes, accuracy in pairing geometric shapes, brush holding strength, and coloring abilities that had reached the expected level of development (BSH). From the responses, it indicates that children prefer to carry out Art Project Practice on the sub-theme of land transportation because learning is conducted according to the character of children's play and the creation of works of art.
