Abstract

Gambier is thespecific commodity of West Sumatra. The research was aimed to find a description of gambier agribusiness, potential and constraint to improve and increase productivity and farmer income. This research on the profile of gambier agribusiness was done on March-October 2015 in Limapuluh and Pesisir Selatan District as the central produce of gambier in West Sumatra. The survey used for data collecting from 30 farmers and 10 merchants according to its level selected at random. Data were analyzed using descriptive, marketing system and economics analysis. The results showed that planted area of gambier increased but production have fluctuation from year to year. Cultivation technology of gambier very simple and without fertilizing. Productivity is 0.70 t/ha/yr. Gambier were exported to various state especially India, Pakistan and Singapore. Price and quality of gambier determined by the merchant. Nationally market compartment export gambier from West Sumatra more than 70.0%. The share of farmer price is 43.1% less than margin share about 56.9%, its mean marketing system inefficient. Profit of gambier is low because ofhight cost of processing, but still feasible with B/C=1.53. Suggest to policy maker and farmer to: (i) Push the growing micro and small industry to produce secondary product of gambier; (ii) Improve of subsystem produce through applying of innovation, development of appliance simple innovation to processe of gambier; (iii) Farmer group alliance institution (gapoktan) pushed to grow marketing unit and warehouse scrip certificate system by exploiting fund in Micro Financial Institution of Agribusiness (MFI-A) and village funds. Expected, for next time the farmer does not depend on raw material exporting of gambier. Keywords: export, marketing, micro industry, productivity, profit, gambier

Abstract

Study of the use of biological fertilizers on soybean. One of the efforts to improve the growth and yield of soybean is to utilize biological fertilizer in the form of inoculants, both root nodule bacteria and endophytic bacteria. Assessment carried out on land formerly used for rice cultivation in Palangki, District Ampek Nagari, Sijunjung regency, West Sumatra, in the dry season (June to September 2010). The design used was a randomized block design (RBD) with 4 treatments and 4 replications, plot size of 5 x 4 m, using Anjasmoro soybean varieties, spacing of 40 x 10 cm, each planted 2 seeds / hole. Treatment in this study, namely: Land given lime without bacterial inoculation (A1); Land without lime, and soy beans inoculated bacteria (A2); Land given lime and soy beans inoculated bacteria (A3); and Land sown with soybean planting land former, given lime and seeds not inoculated bacteria (A4). Data were collected for plant height, number of primary branches, total number of pods, number of pods, amount number of seeds, seed fresh weight and dry weight of seeds. The study showed that treatment of ex-land sprinkled with soybean planting, and seeds were not inoculated lime and (A4) gives the highest response for each parameter of observation compared with other treatments. Keywords: soybean, bio-fertilizers, bacteria.

Abstract

The research was to study the interaction between crop lettuce and tomato under intercropping system, its effect straw mulch on growth and yield of both crop. The experiment was conducted at the Mujimulyo village, Natar. The experiment was conducted from April until July 2008. The Strip Plot Design was used with two factors and three replication. Intercropping followed additive series system: the first factor was croppings, i.e.: crop lettuce 100%, crop lettuce 75% : tomato 25%, crop lettuce 50% : tomato 50%, crop lettuce 25%: tomato 75%, and tomato 100%.The second factor was straw mulch, i.e.: no mulch, 4 and 8 ton ha-1. Experimental results showed that: (1) Straw mulch treatment did not effect on growth and plant yield, but croppings conferred effect to plant yield. (2) In intercrop, the two crop interacted leading to an increase of tomato yield but a decrease in crop lettuce. Graph of the replacement series indicated a compensation with respect to crop yield. (3) The best scheme with regard to yield was 50%:50% intercrop as it had a retative yield total 1,17. Keywords : interaction, straw mulch, crop lettuce, tomato, intercropping.

Abstract

The efforts to achieve optimal results in the development of oil palm cultivation one of which is the use of the planting medium. Palm oil seedlings require planting medium that has the chemical and physical properties are good. Media palm nurseries generally consist of topsoil are mixed with sand and organic matter which is expected to obtain a good medium fertility premises. Top soil needs more difficult, so we need to look for alternative media to growing media prenursery palm oil. This study used randomized complete design and experiment arranged in seven media with four replications. The applications method of media: 100 % topsoil (A), topsoil and salvinia compost (1:1) (B), topsoil and coir palm oil (1:1) (C), topsoil and salvinia compost (1:2) (D) , topsoil and coir palm oil (1:2) (E), coir palm oil and salvinia compost (1:2) (F) , topsoil , salvinia compost, and coir palm oil (1:1:1) (G). All data were analyzed for variance. Data analysis followed by separation of means using LSD test with significance level of 5%. The resulted showed that both time and applications method of topsoil have affect on growth component. The best application method was topsoil, salvinia compost, and coir palm oil increased dry weight and root dry weight. Keywords: Prenursey, topsoil , salvinia compost, coir palm oil

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the aspect labor absorption and prosperity level in dry agroecosystem. This research was taken in PATANAS (Panel Petani National) villages including dry agroecosystem 2008. The data was analyzed by simple statistic and showed using cross tabulation analysis. The result is show that labor absorption in villages is still dominated by agriculture sector, which is changing from under elementary school. Beside that, labor force absorption for younger age is increasing which is showed by movement of the amount of labor from agriculture sector to non agriculture sector. In other hand, the development of prosperity level in the villages is varieties, among in 3 villages no prosperity and 5 villages is prosperity. It means that the availability of labor force which absorption different means of livelihood and the revenue in agro ecosystem wet land didn’t show any development than agro ecosystem dry land villages. So that policy to increase farmers property is needed through variety aspect to support revenue development in agriculture and non agriculture sectors, and agriculture commodity price policy which suitable for farmers and also push work climate out of agriculture Keywords : labor structure, prosperity level household

Abstract

Profitable crop production starts with a weed control program that includes pre-emergence herbicides to deliver long-lasting, residual weed control. Pre-emergence herbicides are applied to prevent the germination of weed seeds. The study was conducted to determine the effect of acetic acid as a pre-emergence herbicide on maize germination. Pots experiment was conducted on August until September 2012. The experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) single factor in four replicates. The application of pre-emergence acetic acid at several concentration, i.e. control (no acetic acid) 0%, 10% acetic acid and 20% acetic acid. The result showed that the pre-emergence aplication at 10% and 20% of the glacial acetic acid solution lowered pH were 5,12 and 5,43 respectively at one week after application, so that inhibited maize germination. No shoots and roots were grew. This was due to the increase of electrical conductivity (EC) or electrolyte leakage caused by the high permeability of the damaged membrane of seed. The EC of control treatment was 11μS/cm g, compared to 10 and 20% treatment of acetic acid were 36 μS / cm g and 55 μS / cm g EC respectively. Increasing concentration of acetic acid caused the higher of protein content leaked, i.e. 7,95%, 7,32% and 7,03% respectively for without acetic acid treatment, 10% and 20% acetic acid. Acetic acid also inhibited respiration rate of maize seed, where the higher concentration of acetic acid produced the lower respiration rate, i.e. 31.63 mg/g/hour, 12.38 mg/g/hour and 2,75 mg/g/hour respectively for without acetic acid treatment, 10% and 20% acetic acid. Abstract

Maize production in each year tends to decrease. One reason is the weeds. Weeds is animportant issue because it can compete with the main crop that can reduce crop production. The purpose of this research to determine: (1). The effect of weeds species on the growth andproduction of maize, (2). The effect of weed density on the growth and production of maize,(3). Interaction between the type and density of weeds in influencing the growth andproduction of maize. The research was conducted in Natar, South Lampung and WeedLaboratory Faculty of Agriculture, university of Lampung from December 2014 to April2015. The treatments arranged factorial (3x5) in a strip plot design with three replications. The first factor is the species of weed that are Asystasia gangetica, Rottboelia exaltata, andCyperus rotundus. The second factor is 5 weed density that are 0, 10, 20, 40, and 80populations of weeds/m2. If the assumptions are met, the data is analyzed using ANOVA,followed by Least Significant Difference Test (LSD) 5%. The result showed that : (1).Species of weeds affects plant shoot dry weight, the weight of maize cobs, and the weight ofgrain maize but did not affect plant height, number of leaves, plant populations, cob length, cob diameter, and weighs 100 grains. (2). The density of 40 weeds/m2affects weight of 100grains, but the density of 10, 20, and 80 weeds/m2did not affect the growth and productionof maize. (3). There is no interaction between species and density of weeds in influencingthe growth and production of maize.Keyword: maize, weeds, competition
