Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is breastfeeding only without additional food or other drinks from the birth of the baby to the age of six months. The practice of exclusive breastfeeding is very important in supporting the growth and development of the baby and reducing the rate of infant illness and death. However, exclusive breastfeeding coverage is still not optimal, including for mothers with their first child (the eldest clown). This study aims to determine the determinants of exclusive breastfeeding in the eldest baduta in the working area of the Dewantara Health Center, North Aceh with variables of knowledge, attitudes, and breastfeeding support. This study uses a type of quantitative research with a cross sectional design. The population in this study is all mothers who have their first child (the eldest baduta) in the working area of the Dewantara Health Center as many as 30 people. The sampling technique uses total sampling so that the entire population is sampled. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between maternal knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.241), no relationship between maternal attitudes and exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.786), and no relationship between breastfeeding support and exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.850). The conclusion of this study is that knowledge, attitudes, and breastfeeding support are not significantly related to exclusive breastfeeding in the eldest clowns. It is recommended to health workers to improve breastfeeding education and assistance, as well as strengthen family support in the success of exclusive breastfeeding.
