Abstract

Vocabulary instruction is a critical component of early English language education, significantly contributing to the long-term language development of young learners. However, effectively selecting and applying teaching strategies that align with students’ cognitive and affective needs poses notable challenges, particularly for teachers in madrasah ibtidaiyah (Islamic primary schools). These challenges are often compounded by factors such as limited parental involvement, overcrowded classrooms, scarce teaching resources, and constrained instructional time. This study investigates the vocabulary teaching strategies employed by English for Young Learners (EYL) madrasah teachers and the difficulties they encounter in their implementation. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were gathered through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with groups of madrasah teachers. The findings reveal that strategies such as “listen and repeat” and “question and answer” were widely adopted, while approaches like “demonstration,” “brainstorming,” “translation,” and “outdoor activities” were used selectively based on students’ grade levels. Teachers consistently reported various obstacles, including low student motivation, diverse proficiency levels, limited instructional materials, and insufficient time allocated for English instruction. These insights highlight the need for context-responsive pedagogical support and resource development to enhance vocabulary learning outcomes in Islamic primary school settings.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the comparison between KBK, KTSP and Curriculum 2013 where there are many criticisms of the government's proposal to radically change the elementary school curriculum into six subjects: mathematics, Indonesian language, religious studies, Pancasila, sports, and arts. However, critics have put forward some very weak arguments and fail to see how the proposed curriculum will help Indonesia – far more effectively than it currently is – build a first-class education system. One good a priori reason to think that the government is right and the critics wrong is that the proposed curriculum is very similar to the curriculum taught in primary schools in England and is universally admired in education circles around the world. The reason why basic English education is so admired for wanting a basic education: to develop children's curiosity and curiosity and encourage critical thinking and creativity by not burdening them with too many set subjects but using the available time to integrate teaching according to various topics. In classes where children are ostensibly studying mathematics or English or religion or art, they are at the same time exposed to knowledge of the world around them and their social and physical environment, a broad understanding of specific periods in history. , moral ideas, and awareness of their own potential. All of this takes place in a context where children learn to take responsibility for their own learning through discovery and investigation, reading, asking questions, watching video clips, utilizing IT resources, libraries, and educational classroom aids (CW Watson, 2012).

Abstract

Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are one of the main pillars of the national economy that have an independent perspective and have great potential to improve people's welfare. MSMEs are one of the businesses that can survive in deteriorating economic conditions, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, MSMEs should have good financial management so that the business they run can be sustainable. MSMEs in Penujak Village, West Praya Regency, have not kept books of account. Most of these business actors do not separate personal and business assets, in determining the selling price based on insting. The purpose of the Community Service Implementation activities in simple bookkeeping training for MSMEs is to be able to independently compile simple books or records related to expenses, income, costs and profits earned and to know the progress of their business. The method of implementing community service in Penujak Village is divided into three stages, namely the initial stage of observation and preparation, the second stage is the implementation of training, and the final stage is mentoring as well as monitoring. The results obtained from this activity are being able to increase knowledge and skills in running their business through simple bookkeeping/recording that is easy to apply to achieve a sustainable business.
