Abstract

This study aims to improve the creative thinking skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 17 Ambon in the subject of vibrations by using a cooperative learning model. This is a quantitative descriptive study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population used in this study consisted of all VIII students at SMP Negeri 17, comprising three classes with a total of 97 students. Meanwhile, the research sample consisted of the students in VIII3 class, totaling 27 students. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data in this study were obtained through test instruments, namely a pretest and a posttest, and non-test instruments, namely student worksheets (LKPD). The results of this study indicate that on the pre-test, 3 (20%) students were classified as less creative, and 24 (80%) students were classified as non-creative, with an average achievement score of 12.81 in the non-creative category. The results of student performance during the learning process showed that the average achievement score was 77.92 in the “creative” category. The results of the final ability test showed that the average achievement score of students on the final test after the learning process was 79.18 in the “creative” category. The results of the N-Gain test showed that students achieved an average score of 0.76, which is classified as high. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the cooperative learning model to the topic of Vibrations can enhance the creative thinking skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 17 Ambon.
