Abstract

Abstract

Early childhood is a golden age that plays a crucial role in determining the development of children’s basic abilities, particularly language skills, which are essential for communication and social interaction. This study aimed to examine the effect of e-flipbook media accompanied by parental involvement on the language development of Group B children at TK Islam Darul Yaqin, Kediri District. This study employed a quantitative approach with an experimental research method using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The population of this study consisted of all children enrolled at TK Islam Darul Yaqin, totaling 37 children. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, in which all 18 children in Group B were selected as the research sample. Data were collected through observation and documentation. Data analysis was conducted by first performing a normality test as a prerequisite for analysis, followed by hypothesis testing using a paired sample t-test with the assistance of IBM SPSS version 31 for Windows. The results showed that the average language development score before treatment (pretest) was 45.89, which fell into the category of Beginning to Develop (BD). After the implementation of the e-flipbook media accompanied by parental involvement, the posttest results indicated an increase in the average language development score to 93.89, which was categorized as Very Well Developed (VWD). The hypothesis testing results showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.01, which was lower than 0.05; therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of e-flipbook media accompanied by parental involvement has a significant effect on the language development of Group B children at TK Islam Darul Yaqin, Kediri District.

Abstract

Parental caregiving in the use and management of digital media (digital parenting) has become an important issue in early childhood education, particularly in semi-peripheral areas characterized by strong collective family traditions and relatively low digital literacy. This study aims to explore digital parenting practices among parents of early childhood children in East Lombok by integrating Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory and Livingstone’s parental mediation framework. This study used a descriptive-exploratory approach by distributing questionnaires to 105 parents in four subdistricts in East Lombok. The results show three dominant parenting patterns in the use of digital technology, namely restrictive at 38.1%, permissive at 29.5%, and authoritative at 32.4%, each of which was influenced by the intersection of microsystem, mesosystem, and exosystem factors. An important finding of this study indicates that intergenerational value conflict within the Sasak extended family structure acts as a mediating factor that disrupts parental consistency in mediating children’s use of digital media. In addition, parents’ digital literacy, rather than educational level alone, is the main determinant distinguishing adaptive and maladaptive digital parenting strategies. The conclusion of the study affirms that digital parenting practices in rural-collective communities require an approach that is contextual, family-based, and responsive to local cultural values. The implications of this study provide theoretical contributions to the development of parental mediation studies in the Global South context, as well as practical implications for families, educators, and communities in developing a community-based digital parenting model that integrates Sasak local wisdom, particularly the concept of adat as a mechanism of social control.

Abstract

This community service article aims to describe and analyze the implementation of an international volunteering program in strengthening literacy and character development among Indonesian migrant children in Malaysia. The activity was conducted through the International Volunteer and Youth Fellowship (IVYF) Malaysia–Singapore 2026 program at Sanggar Belajar Hulu Langat and Beranang as non-formal education centers for migrant children. The program involved 60 migrant children from elementary to senior high school levels who participated in various educational and character-building activities. This community service employed a qualitative descriptive approach through participatory observation, documentation, and volunteer reflection during the implementation process. The activities included learning assistance, basic literacy strengthening in reading and writing, character education, and interactive learning through educational games and cultural exchange activities. The results showed that the program contributed positively to improving children’s learning participation, literacy engagement, self-confidence, cooperation, and social interaction. The learning through play approach created a more engaging, interactive, and meaningful learning environment for children with diverse educational backgrounds. In addition, the program also enhanced social awareness and cross-cultural understanding among volunteers involved in the activities. This community service demonstrates that international volunteering can serve as an effective community-based approach in supporting inclusive education and sustainable development goals, particularly in providing quality education opportunities for vulnerable groups such as migrant children

Abstract

Research interest in local wisdom-based learning among the Samawa people at TK PGRI Kalimango stems from initial observations indicating that elements of local culture have begun to be introduced through simple activities, such as rabana rhythm practice. This study aims to describe the forms, implementation, and recommendations regarding instruction based on the local wisdom of the Samawa people at TK PGRI Kalimango. It employs a qualitative approach within the framework of educational ethnography. The research subjects included the school principal, five teachers, and students' parents. Data collection involved observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively, utilizing NVivo software to facilitate the automated processes of data grouping, coding, and organization. The findings indicate that the forms of Samawa local wisdom integrated into the curriculum at TK PGRI Kalimango include the use of the Samawa regional language, traditional attire, oral traditions, traditional arts, traditional games, local cuisine, and traditional Samawa dances. The implementation of this local wisdom-based instruction is systematically planned through programs such as Sabarya and Basebo, as well as through art performances and cultural festivals. Furthermore, the researcher recommends utilizing traditional visual arts specifically the Lonto Engal and Kemang Satange motifs as alternatives for developing local wisdom based instruction in early childhood education.
