Abstract

The process of making durian fermentation in Indonesia has many variations, including the addition of salt and turmeric with a shelf life of 3-5 days. These different processing methods can affect the growth, type, amount and production of lactic acid from LAB bacteria. This study aims to determine the type of LAB in durian fermentation added with salt, turmeric and a combination of both. Isolation was done aseptically using MRS media and incubated at 370C for 48 hours. Furthermore, identification was carried out, namely morphological observations and biochemical tests. Based on the test results, one type of LAB isolate was obtained, namely Lactobacillus casei.

Abstract

Leaf variegation (color mixing) is a crucial aesthetic characteristic in ornamental plants, including golden pothos (Epipremnum aureum). Light intensity is hypothesized to influence the variegation levels, though related information remaids limited. This study aims to investigate the effect of varying light intensities on the percentage of color change in golden pothos leaves. The experiment employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four light intensity treatments: P1 (25%), P2 (50%), P3 (75%), and P4 (100%). Observations were conducted every 5 days over 50 days, with data analyzed using a one-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey HSD tests. Results indicated that light intensities of 75% (P3) and 100% (P4) produced significantly higher variegation compared to lower intensities. Between days 30 to 45, P3 (75%) and P4 (100%) achieved the highest color-changes percentages (52.0% and 57.80% respectivly). Statistical analysis revealed significant differences between treatmens, with a high F-value (F = 15.89) demonstrating greater between-group variences than within-group varience. The P-value (<0.05) led to rejection of the null hypothesis (H0). Optimal leaf color change occured under high intensities of 75% and 100%.

Abstract

Research on the Effect of Tofu Liquid Waste (TLW) on Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) growth using the Wick System Hydroponic has been conducted. This research began from October 2019 to June 2020 and was carried out in the Food Education Shelter of Aceh Government Food Service (NAKASIPAN). This research aimed to determine the potential of TLW as a hydroponic medium for lettuce and determine the appropriate concentration for growing media. The study began from October to June 2020 and was carried out at the Aceh Government Food Education Shelter Food Office (NAKASIPAN). The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of TLW as a hydroponic medium for lettuce and determine the appropriate concentration for growing media. This research uses an experimental method using a completely randomized design (CRD). The planting system used the Wick system method, and there were 6 treatments with 4 repetitions, namely P0 (100% water), P1 (100% Ab mix), 100% TLW, 75% TLW, P4 50% TLW, 25% TLW. The results showed that the concentration did not have a significant effect on lettuce plants, as evidenced by the results of further tests of various research parameters. The growth was not significantly different from the control treatment (without liquid tofu waste concentration), but it was significantly different from the treatment using Ab mix 100%. However, this research has proven that liquid tofu waste can be used as a hydroponic medium, but still necessary to find an appropriate concentration for the growth of lettuce plants.
