Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has increased the intensity of online game usage among students, which may affect their academic aspects. This study aims to examine the relationship between online game addiction and learning motivation among junior high school students. This research employed a quantitative method with a correlational design involving 143 ninth-grade students of SMP Krian 2 selected through purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were an online game addiction scale based on King and Delfabbro’s theory and a learning motivation scale based on Abraham Maslow’s theory. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality test, linearity test, and Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The results showed a correlation coefficient of r = 0.270 with a significance value of p < 0.05, indicating a positive and statistically significant relationship between online game addiction and students’ learning motivation. However, the relationship was categorized as low. These findings indicate that online game addiction is not the dominant factor affecting students’ learning motivation, as learning motivation is also influenced by other factors such as family support, social environment, and students’ self-control abilities._____________________________________________________________Perkembangan pesat teknologi digital telah meningkatkan intensitas penggunaan game online di kalangan siswa yang berpotensi memengaruhi aspek akademik mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara kecanduan game online dan motivasi belajar pada siswa sekolah menengah pertama. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional, melibatkan 143 siswa kelas IX SMP Krian 2 yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah skala kecanduan game online berdasarkan teori King dan Delfabbro serta skala motivasi belajar berdasarkan teori Abraham Maslow. Analisis data meliputi statistik deskriptif, uji normalitas, uji linearitas, dan uji korelasi Pearson Product Moment. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan koefisien korelasi sebesar r = 0,270 dengan nilai signifikansi p < 0,05, yang mengindikasikan adanya hubungan positif dan signifikan secara statistik antara kecanduan game online dan motivasi belajar siswa. Namun, tingkat hubungan kedua variabel tergolong rendah. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa kecanduan game online bukan merupakan faktor dominan yang memengaruhi motivasi belajar siswa, karena motivasi belajar juga dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain seperti dukungan keluarga, lingkungan sosial, dan kemampuan pengendalian diri siswa.
