Abstract

Academic procrastination in the digital era has increased due to social media distractions, information overload, and low mindfulness in managing attention. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Mindful Echo-Journaling program as a mindfulness-based strategy to reduce academic procrastination among college students. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design with two groups was used, consisting of an experimental group that received the intervention and a control group that did not. The Procrastination Assessment Scale for Students (PASS) was employed for measurement. The results showed a significant decrease in procrastination scores in the experimental group, from 73.94 to 59.78 (t(18)=7.78, p<0.05), while the control group showed no significant change (t(18)=-0.26, p>0.05). An independent t-test also indicated significant differences between the two groups (t(36)=-2.826, p=0.008). In conclusion, the Mindful Echo-Journaling program is effective in reducing academic procrastination among students and holds promise as an applicable mindfulness-based intervention in higher education settings.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of mitigation understanding on the anxiety levels of coastal communities in Kota Karang Subdistrict, Bandar Lampung, who received information regarding the potential megathrust earthquake. Mitigation understanding represents a cognitive aspect of disaster preparedness that plays a role in reducing both risk and psychological impacts arising from disaster threats. Meanwhile, anxiety is an emotional response that can affect an individual's mental condition, either realistically or irrationally. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. Data were collected through an anxiety scale developed based on Calhoun & Acocella’s theory and a mitigation understanding scale constructed based on the 2025 Regional Disaster Risk Assessment by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Reliability testing showed a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.765 for the anxiety variable and 0.751 for the mitigation understanding variable. The sample consisted of 95 respondents from RT 05 and RT 07 of Kota Karang Subdistrict, Bandar Lampung. The results indicate a significant negative effect of mitigation understanding on community anxiety, with a contribution of 13.1%. This means that the higher the level of mitigation understanding, the lower the level of anxiety experienced by the community. These findings suggest that improving disaster mitigation literacy can serve as a preventive strategy to reduce the psychological impact of disaster threat information. Therefore, the government is encouraged to strengthen disaster education programs through accessible approaches and active community involvement.
