Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) represent the oldest form of Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia and possess a distinctive epistemological system, which is particularly reflected in the tradition of kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts) learning. The kitab kuning function not only as primary sources of classical Islamic scholarship but also as media for the transmission of values, scholarly authority, and the formation of students’ character. This study aims to examine the epistemology of pesantren through an interpretative approach to the meaning of kitab kuning as perceived by teachers (kiai/ustaz) and students. Employing a qualitative research design with an interpretative–phenomenological method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis within the pesantren environment. The findings reveal that kitab kuning are understood as (1) sources of scholarly legitimacy and religious authority, (2) media for the internalization of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama‘ah (Aswaja) values, and (3) instruments for the formation of students’ intellectual and moral habitus. The epistemology of pesantren, as grounded in the kitab kuning tradition, emphasizes the integration of knowledge, ethics, and spirituality, thereby offering a holistic model of Islamic education that remains relevant amid the challenges of modernity. ABSTRAKPesantren merupakan lembaga pendidikan Islam tertua di Indonesia yang memiliki sistem epistemologi khas, terutama tercermin dalam tradisi pembelajaran kitab kuning. Kitab kuning tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai sumber rujukan keilmuan keislaman klasik, tetapi juga menjadi medium transmisi nilai, otoritas keilmuan, dan pembentukan karakter santri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji epistemologi pesantren melalui pendekatan interpretatif terhadap makna kitab kuning bagi guru (kiai/ustaz) dan santri. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode interpretatif-fenomenologis. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan studi dokumentasi di lingkungan pesantren. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kitab kuning dimaknai sebagai (1) sumber legitimasi keilmuan dan otoritas religius, (2) media internalisasi nilai Aswaja, dan (3) sarana pembentukan habitus intelektual dan moral santri. Epistemologi pesantren yang berbasis kitab kuning menekankan integrasi antara pengetahuan, etika, dan spiritualitas, sehingga relevan sebagai model pendidikan Islam yang holistik di tengah tantangan modernitas.

Abstract

Quranic education through the Ummi Method is a quality-based system that integrates the 10 Pillars of the Quality System to achieve the ability to read the Quran with proper recitation (tartil) and fluency. This study aims to analyze the barriers to implementing the Ummi Method at the Riyadhul Muttaqin Quran House in North Cikarang and to identify strategies for optimizing learning. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with administrators, teachers, students, and parents, as well as document analysis, and were subsequently analyzed using the interactive model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The results indicate that the primary barriers lie in the duration of learning sessions, an unbalanced teacher-to-student ratio, suboptimal coordinator supervision, inconsistent application of mastery learning, irregular external quality control, and a manual student progress reporting system. External factors, such as insufficient independent practice at home and gadget usage, also impact learning effectiveness. This study concludes that optimizing the implementation of the Ummi Method requires systemic strengthening of the 10 Pillars of the Quality System through improved supervision, correction of the teacher-student ratio, digitization of reporting, and strengthening the role of parents in supporting Quranic learning at home. ABSTRAKPembelajaran Al-Qur’an melalui Metode Ummi merupakan sistem berbasis mutu yang mengintegrasikan 10 Pilar Sistem Mutu untuk mencapai kemampuan membaca Al-Qur’an secara tartil dan fasih. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis hambatan implementasi Metode Ummi di Rumah Qur’an Riyadhul Muttaqin Cikarang Utara serta mengidentifikasi strategi optimalisasi pembelajaran. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam dengan pengelola, guru, santri, dan wali santri, serta studi dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan model interaktif Miles, Huberman, dan Saldana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hambatan utama terdapat pada aspek waktu pembelajaran, rasio guru dan santri yang belum ideal, supervisi koordinator yang belum optimal, inkonsistensi penerapan mastery learning, kontrol mutu eksternal yang belum rutin, serta sistem pelaporan perkembangan santri yang masih manual. Faktor eksternal berupa rendahnya latihan mandiri di rumah dan penggunaan gadget turut memengaruhi efektivitas pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa optimalisasi implementasi Metode Ummi memerlukan penguatan sistemik terhadap 10 Pilar Sistem Mutu melalui peningkatan supervisi, perbaikan rasio guru-santri, digitalisasi pelaporan, dan penguatan peran orang tua dalam pendampingan belajar Al-Qur’an di rumah.

Abstract

Faculty efficacy is one of the key factors influencing the quality of learning in higher education, particularly in the Islamic Religious Education (IRE) program, which requires the integration of academic and pedagogical competencies with Islamic values. This study aims to analyze faculty efficacy in improving the quality of learning in the Islamic Religious Education program at KH. Ruhiat Cipasung Islamic University in Tasikmalaya. The study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving 5 tenured faculty members, 1 Program Chair, and 10 students. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that lecturers possess a high level of efficacy in mastering course content, applying teaching strategies, managing the classroom, conducting assessments, and utilizing instructional media. Lecturers’ efficacy is supported by teaching experience as well as institutional support through training and academic supervision. The research findings indicate that lecturers’ efficacy contributes to the creation of learning that is more effective, participatory, and meaningful for students. Therefore, strengthening lecturers’ efficacy needs to be an important part of efforts to improve the quality of learning at Islamic higher education institutions. ABSTRAKEfikasi dosen merupakan salah satu faktor penting yang memengaruhi kualitas pembelajaran di perguruan tinggi, khususnya pada Program Studi Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) yang menuntut integrasi antara kompetensi akademik, pedagogik, dan nilai-nilai keislaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efikasi dosen dalam meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran pada Program Studi Pendidikan Agama Islam Universitas Islam KH. Ruhiat Cipasung Tasikmalaya. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi terhadap 5 dosen tetap, 1 Ketua Program Studi, dan 10 mahasiswa. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan model interaktif Miles, Huberman, dan Saldaña yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dosen memiliki tingkat efikasi yang tinggi dalam penguasaan materi, penerapan strategi pembelajaran, pengelolaan kelas, pelaksanaan evaluasi, dan pemanfaatan media pembelajaran. Efikasi dosen didukung oleh pengalaman mengajar serta dukungan institusional melalui pelatihan dan supervisi akademik. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa efikasi dosen berkontribusi terhadap terciptanya pembelajaran yang lebih efektif, partisipatif, dan bermakna bagi mahasiswa. Oleh karena itu, penguatan efikasi dosen perlu menjadi bagian penting dalam upaya peningkatan mutu pembelajaran di perguruan tinggi Islam.

Abstract

The diversity of the students’ cultural backgrounds at Islamic boarding schools presents both a challenge and an opportunity for strengthening character education and tolerance. This study aims to describe multicultural learning practices, analyze the integration of Aswaja Annahdiyah values, and examine their impact on the character development and social competencies of students at Pesantren Annur, Garut Regency. The study employs a qualitative phenomenological approach, involving 28 students from various regions through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The results indicate that cross-cultural interactions in dormitory activities, halaqah sessions, and collective activities foster tolerant attitudes, intercultural communication skills, and the ability to collaborate. The Aswaja Annahdiyah values—tasamuh (tolerance), tawazun (balance), and ta’awun (cooperation)—are integrated into the students’ daily lives and serve as the foundation for building an inclusive character. This study concludes that Pesantren Annur has developed an effective experience-based multicultural education model that strengthens students’ social competencies and character, while also demonstrating the synergy between multicultural education and the Aswaja Annahdiyah values within the pesantren context. ABSTRAKKeberagaman latar belakang budaya santri di pesantren menjadi tantangan sekaligus peluang dalam penguatan pendidikan karakter dan toleransi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan praktik pembelajaran multikultural, menganalisis integrasi nilai Aswaja Annahdiyah, serta mengkaji dampaknya terhadap pengembangan karakter dan kompetensi sosial santri di Pesantren Annur, Kabupaten Garut. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif fenomenologi dengan melibatkan 28 santri dari berbagai daerah melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interaksi lintas budaya dalam kegiatan asrama, halaqah, dan aktivitas kolektif mampu menumbuhkan sikap toleran, keterampilan komunikasi antarbudaya, serta kemampuan bekerja sama. Nilai Aswaja Annahdiyah, yaitu tasamuh, tawazun, dan ta’awun, terintegrasi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari santri dan menjadi landasan pembentukan karakter inklusif. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa Pesantren Annur mengembangkan model pendidikan multikultural berbasis pengalaman yang efektif dalam memperkuat kompetensi sosial dan karakter santri, sekaligus menunjukkan sinergi antara pendidikan multikultural dan nilai Aswaja Annahdiyah dalam konteks pesantren.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) plays a strategic role in shaping students’ character, particularly in boarding schools that integrate classroom learning with guidance in the dormitories. This study aims to analyze the management of Islamic Religious Education, including planning, implementation, and assessment, as well as its impact on the development of students’ character at SMP Terpadu Baiturrahman and SMP YPI Boarding School in Bandung Regency. The study employs a qualitative approach using a multi-site case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving school principals, PAI teachers, dormitory supervisors, and students, and were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing with triangulation to ensure data validity. The results of the study indicate that PAI management is implemented systematically through the strengthening of the religious curriculum, the cultivation of religious practices, the enforcement of rules and regulations, and continuous character development. It is concluded that planned and consistent PAI management contributes positively to the formation of students’ moral character, as reflected in discipline, responsibility, politeness, and adherence to Islamic values. ABSTRAKPendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) memiliki peran strategis dalam membentuk akhlak siswa, terutama pada sekolah berbasis boarding school yang mengintegrasikan pembelajaran di sekolah dan pembinaan di asrama. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis manajemen Pendidikan Agama Islam yang meliputi perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan penilaian serta pengaruhnya terhadap pembentukan akhlak siswa di SMP Terpadu Baiturrahman dan SMP YPI Boarding School Kabupaten Bandung. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus multisitus. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi yang melibatkan kepala sekolah, guru PAI, pembina asrama, dan siswa, kemudian dianalisis melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan dengan triangulasi untuk menjamin keabsahan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa manajemen PAI dilaksanakan secara sistematis melalui penguatan kurikulum keagamaan, pembiasaan ibadah, penerapan tata tertib, dan pembinaan karakter secara berkelanjutan. Disimpulkan bahwa manajemen PAI yang terencana dan konsisten berkontribusi positif terhadap pembentukan akhlak siswa, yang tercermin dalam kedisiplinan, tanggung jawab, kesopanan, dan kepatuhan terhadap nilai-nilai Islam.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a crucial role in shaping students’ moral character at the elementary school level as the initial phase of character development; however, its implementation in public elementary schools still faces challenges in consistently integrating moral values into the learning process. This study aims to describe the implementation of PAI instruction, analyze the outcomes of its implementation, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in the development of students’ moral character at SDN Karang Asih 08 Cikarang Utara, Bekasi Regency. The study employs a qualitative approach using the case study method. Data were collected through non-participatory observation, structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The results indicate that PAI instruction has been conducted in accordance with the curriculum and lesson plans, utilizing various teaching methods. This implementation has positively contributed to students’ religiosity and compliance with school rules, although the internalization of moral values has not yet been fully and consistently reflected in their daily behavior. This study concludes that PAI instruction plays a crucial role in shaping students’ moral character; however, it requires strengthening the integration of moral values as well as sustained synergy among schools, families, and the community. ABSTRAKPendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk akhlak siswa pada jenjang sekolah dasar sebagai fase awal pembentukan karakter, namun implementasinya di sekolah dasar negeri masih menghadapi tantangan dalam mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai akhlak secara konsisten dalam proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan implementasi pembelajaran PAI, menganalisis hasil implementasinya, serta mengidentifikasi faktor pendukung dan penghambat pembentukan akhlak siswa di SDN Karang Asih 08 Cikarang Utara Kabupaten Bekasi. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi non-partisipatif, wawancara terstruktur, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran PAI telah dilaksanakan sesuai kurikulum dan perencanaan pembelajaran dengan memanfaatkan berbagai metode pembelajaran. Implementasi tersebut berkontribusi positif terhadap religiusitas dan kepatuhan siswa terhadap aturan sekolah, meskipun internalisasi nilai akhlak belum sepenuhnya tercermin secara konsisten dalam perilaku sehari-hari. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran PAI berperan penting dalam pembentukan akhlak siswa, namun memerlukan penguatan integrasi nilai akhlak serta sinergi berkelanjutan antara sekolah, keluarga, dan masyarakat.
