Abstract

Abstract Extra pulmonary tuberculosis occurs in 20% of patients with tuberculosis. Tuberculosis pericarditis is seen in 1-8% of these patients. Tuberculosis has been reported to be the cause of acute pericarditis in 60-80% of the patients in the developing world. We reported a case of 19 years old male who presented with right chest pain, cough, breathlessness, night sweat, fever, fatigue, and weight loss. From the physical examination, jugular venous pressure was high and on auscultation, the heart sounds were muffled and associated with a pericardial rub. The chest x-ray revealed enlargement of cardiac silhouette. Transthoracic echocardiography showed pericardial effusion, and mantoux tuberculin skin test were positive. Since the pericardiocentesis is not feasible in our hospital, the tygerberg tuberculous pericarditis score was applied. Furthermore, patients were given anti-TB treatment, and showed a good response to treatment.Key words: extra pulmonary tuberculosis, tuberculous pericarditis, tygerberg score Abstrak Tuberkulosis dapat menyebabkan kelainan di luar paru.

Abstract

Abstract Tuberculosis (TB) is a multiorgan disease with varied clinical presentations. Extrapulmonal tuberculosis is found in 15-20% immunocompetent patients. Urogenital tuberculosis is the second most common form of extrapulmonary TB in countries with high incindence of TB. We present a case of a 42-year-old female who developed acute kidney injury due to urinary tract infection but later we found tuberculosis lession in her urinary bladder. Patient already treated with anti tuberculosis drugs regiment, but we could not evaluate the treatment response, because patient died due to her condition related with urosepsis. Tuberculosis urogenital is a rare condition and classical clinical symptoms of urinary tract infection may delayed the diagnosis.Key word : urogenital tuberculosis, acute kidney injury Abstrak Tuberkulosis (TB) adalah penyakit multiorgan dengan gambaran klinis bervariasi.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health problem, with Indonesia ranking second in the world for the highest number of cases. This study aims to analyze the relationship between various risk factors and the incidence of primary and post-primary tuberculosis in the Merdeka Public Health Center working area in 2025.Based on preliminary data, there are 122 TB patients in the region diagnosed using the Molecular Rapid Test (TCM). Identified risk factors include host factors such as male gender, productive age (15–64 years), low education, and low economic status. Additionally, home environmental factors play a crucial role in increasing transmission risk, including inadequate residential density (<9m²/person), poor ventilation, lack of natural lighting, and suboptimal air humidity. Negative preventive behaviors and exposure to cigarette smoke are also significant contributors to the incidence of the disease.Mitigation efforts require comprehensive interventions. These must focus not only on medical treatment but also on improving residential environmental conditions and educating the community on healthy behaviors.

Abstract

The present study reports a comparative evaluation of the antidiabetic potential of ethanol extracts from Syzygium polyanthum (bay leaves) and Moringa oleifera L. (moringa seeds) based on their inhibitory activity against the α-glucosidase enzyme. Diabetes mellitus, a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion or action, can be managed through enzyme inhibition that delays carbohydrate hydrolysis. The investigation was conducted for five weeks using an in vitro experimental method, in which both plant materials were extracted via maceration with 70% ethanol. The α-glucosidase inhibition assay was performed spectrophotometrically at 410 nm, and the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC₅₀) was determined to compare the inhibitory capacities of both extracts. Phytochemical profiling revealed that bay leaf extract contains flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids, while moringa seed extract contains flavonoids, alkaloids, and steroids. Results showed that bay leaf extract exhibited strong α-glucosidase inhibition with an IC₅₀ value below 100 ppm, indicating a significant potential as a natural antidiabetic agent. In contrast, moringa seed extract demonstrated weaker activity with no substantial inhibition observed at the tested concentrations. Based on comparative analysis, bay leaf extract shows a higher inhibitory efficiency, suggesting its potential application in herbal antidiabetic formulations. Further studies are recommended to explore the optimal concentration range and bioactive constituents of moringa seeds.

Abstract

This study contributes to public health knowledge by evaluating rosella tea as a complementary therapy for hypertensive patients with comorbidities. The process involved a systematic review and meta-analysis of 10 clinical trials published from 2015 to 2025, identified through PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate. The implementation method followed PRISMA guidelines and used RevMan 5.4 to assess Mean Differences. The study schedule focused on analyzing the latest literature up to the year 2025. Results indicate that rosella tea consumption does not significantly lower blood pressure or lipid profiles. Consequently, patients should prioritize standard pharmacological treatments until further standardized research is available.
