Abstract

This study examines the concept of the sakinah family in the Qur'an and its relevance to children's psychological stability through a thematic interpretation (tafsir maudhu'i) approach. The background stems from the family's crucial role as the primary environment in shaping a child's personality and mental health, where the Qur'an emphasizes marriage as a means to achieve tranquility, affection, and generational continuity. While studies on the sakinah family abound, research specifically linking the Qur'anic concept of sakinah to children's psychological stability through a thematic approach remains limited. This study aims to analyze the meaning of sakinah in the Qur'an and explain its implications for fostering children's psychological stability within family life. Employing a library research method with a maudhu'i approach, the primary data comprises QS. Ar-Rum: 21, QS. Al-A'raf: 189, QS. Al-Furqan: 74, and QS. An-Nisa': 1, analyzed through commentaries such as Tafsir al-Mishbah, Tafsir Ibnu Katsir, and Tafsir al-Muyassar. The findings reveal that the Qur'anic concept of the sakinah family encompasses four essential elements: tranquility in the spousal relationship, love and affection within the family, spiritual education for children, and the maintenance of kinship ties. These elements significantly contribute to children's psychological stability, as a harmonious family provides the sense of security, emotional balance, and moral support essential for child development. These findings affirm that the sakinah family concept holds not only spiritual dimensions but also profound psychological relevance in cultivating mentally healthy and well-rounded individuals.

Abstract

Mental crisis has become one of the serious issues in modern society, particularly among the younger generation, due to academic, social, and economic pressures, as well as the influence of social media, which may trigger stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, and loss of hope in life. This study aims to examine how the Qur’an builds the character of optimism and prohibits despair as a spiritual and psychological response to mental crisis. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research design and a thematic interpretation approach. The primary data are derived from Qur’anic verses related to optimism and the prohibition of despair, namely QS. Al-Baqarah: 286, QS. Al-Insyirah: 5–6, QS. Yusuf: 87, and QS. Fussilat: 49, supported by Tafsir At-Thabari, Tafsir Al-Mishbah, and Tafsir Al-Azhar as the main exegetical references. The findings show that the Qur’an offers psychological and spiritual guidance through the values of patience, tawakal, gratitude, remembrance of Allah, belief in Allah’s mercy, and hope for ease after hardship. Optimism in the Qur’an functions as a foundation for strengthening life motivation and mental resilience, while the prohibition of despair serves as emotional protection so that humans do not become trapped in adversity. Thus, Qur’anic teachings are relevant as a spiritual framework for building mental health and overcoming psychological crises in the contemporary era.

Abstract

Shirk is considered the gravest sin in Islam as explicitly prohibited in the Qur'an, for it contradicts the principle of tawhid as the fundamental foundation of faith. This study aims to explore the meaning and implications of shirk in everyday life by referring to Sayyid Qutb's Fi Zhilalil Qur'an and analyzing its relevance to the social reality of Binjai City. The research applies a descriptive qualitative method with a library research approach and thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhū'i), complemented by social observations of religious practices within the community. The findings reveal that shirk is not limited to idol worship but also encompasses the transfer of obedience and submission to authorities other than Allah in political, economic, cultural, and social domains. In Binjai City, shirk manifests in two main forms: cultural shirk, such as the use of amulets and the excessive veneration of figures, and modern shirk, including the commodification of religious symbols, superficial expressions of religiosity, and materialistic tendencies legitimized through religious narratives. The implications of shirk are wide-ranging, from spiritual crises and existential anxiety at the individual level to disintegration and social injustice at the communal level. This study underscores the need for comprehensive efforts to address shirk through tawhid-based education, contextualized da'wah strategies, and the cultivation of critical awareness regarding hidden forms of shirk. Thus, the research provides significant contributions in bridging normative Qur'anic understanding with contemporary social dynamics, particularly in fostering urban communities grounded in pure faith and social justice.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the life experiences of female inmates at the Class IIA Tanjung Gusta Penitentiary in Medan, specifically in interpreting the process of repentance and religious rehabilitation during their incarceration. Utilizing a field study method, the findings indicate that religious guidance provided by religious teachers (ustadz), combined with vocational training, significantly contributes to the inmates' selftransformation. Furthermore, structured religious programs strengthen spiritual and emotional resilience, assisting inmates in managing remorse while fostering new hope. Additionally, independence training such as sewing, culinary arts, and handicrafts equips inmates with the productivity needed to reintegrate into society and achieve a prosperous life. Despite constraints in specialized women's health facilities, the gradual internalization of religious values and a professional work ethic reconstructs the inmates' identities into more responsible and positive individuals.
