Abstract

The reliability of irrigation infrastructure plays a crucial role in supporting agricultural productivity and the sustainability of water distribution. Over time, the physical components of irrigation networks are prone to degradation due to aging, hydraulic loads, sedimentation, and limited maintenance. This study aims to assess the existing physical condition and analyze the physical performance of irrigation structures in the Tumpukrenteng Irrigation District, Turen Subdistrict, Malang Regency, which serves approximately 98 hectares of agricultural land. The study focuses on physical infrastructure aspects, including main structures, conveyance channels, and ancillary structures. The research methodology involved field inspections, visual surveys of structure conditions, and direct measurements of damage levels supported by secondary technical data. The inventory data were analyzed using a weighting method based on the Irrigation System Performance Index standards, with an emphasis on physical infrastructure indicators. The results of the study indicate that, in general, the irrigation network remains in good condition; however, there are some localized damages such as minor cracks, surface peeling, sedimentation, and the growth of wild vegetation on certain canals and structures. These conditions have the potential to reduce flow efficiency and increase water loss if not addressed promptly. The physical performance metrics obtained indicate that the irrigation system is still functional but requires periodic maintenance and targeted repairs. In conclusion, this study provides a quantitative and objective assessment of the physical performance of the irrigation network, which serves as a basis for determining priorities for ongoing maintenance and rehabilitation.

Abstract

A decline in irrigation system performance is generally caused by infrastructure degradation and suboptimal management, which affect the effectiveness of water distribution to agricultural land. This study aims to evaluate the physical and functional performance of the irrigation network in the Gesang Irrigation District in Malang Regency as a basis for determining appropriate maintenance strategies. The research method employed a field survey approach and an irrigation performance index assessment based on parameters including physical infrastructure, crop productivity, supporting facilities, personnel organization, documentation, and the institutional framework of water-user farmers. The assessment was conducted on 33 sections of primary canals through observation of structural conditions and calculation of performance weights. The results of the study indicate that the physical condition of the infrastructure exhibits varying degrees of damage, with the following proportions: Good at 33.33%, Slightly Damaged at 33.33%, Moderately Damaged at 21.21%, Severely Damaged at 9.09%, and Natural at 3.03%. The overall performance score for the physical infrastructure reached 73.16%, which falls into the Moderately Damaged category. The component with the lowest score was the control structures at 67.50%, due to malfunctions in the distribution gates and intake structures. These conditions indicate that water distribution functions are beginning to be disrupted, necessitating rehabilitation at points of severe damage as well as intensive preventive maintenance to ensure the sustainability of irrigation services.

Abstract

The construction of drinking water pipeline networks is a critical component of a sustainable Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM). The success of pipeline construction is heavily influenced by the appropriate selection of construction methods tailored to on-site conditions. The Umbulan Sub-Distribution Center (Sub DC) Bunder–Manyar SPAM project in Gresik Regency is a strategic project utilizing High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes with large nominal diameters and a significant route length. Diverse on-site conditions, such as open areas, road crossings, and river crossings, require the application of appropriate construction methods to ensure the work proceeds effectively and efficiently. This study aims to analyze the construction methods for HDPE DN pipelines applied in this project, analyze the costs and duration of the work, and evaluate project progress based on actual on-site conditions. The research method used is a descriptive approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Data was obtained through direct field observations as well as a review of the Cost Estimate (RAB), work schedule, and project progress reports. The research results show that the open-cut method is predominantly used in areas with open terrain and easy access, while the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) method is applied in areas crossing roads and rivers. Based on the analysis of costs and implementation time, the application of methods appropriate to site conditions can improve work efficiency and support the achievement of project progress in accordance with the plan. Thus, the selection of the appropriate implementation method plays a crucial role in the success of drinking water pipeline network projects.

Abstract

A stable supply of irrigation water is a crucial factor for agricultural success, but its effectiveness depends heavily on the physical integrity of the irrigation network. This study aims to analyze the structural condition of physical assets and evaluate the performance of irrigation structures in the primary canal of the Cokro Irrigation District (DI), Jeru Village, Tumpang Subdistrict, Malang Regency. The evaluation focused on a 927-meter-long primary channel serving a 30-hectare rice field area. The research method used was quantitative descriptive, involving field surveys (inventory) and technical measurements in accordance with the standards set forth in Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing Regulation No. 12/PRT/M/2015. Primary data were obtained through visual inspections at 15 points along the primary channel and its ancillary structures to assess the extent of damage. Data analysis included calculating the percentage of network damage and determining the physical performance index. The results of the study indicate that the physical condition of the infrastructure is at the “cautionary maintenance” level. A total of 73.34% of the assets are in serviceable condition (Good and Slightly Damaged), but there are 26.67% of critical points categorized as Moderately Damaged, Severely Damaged, and Abandoned. The predominant forms of damage are sedimentation and the growth of wild vegetation that obstructs water flow. Based on calculations, the performance index of the Cokro irrigation system is 72.82%, which is classified as “Function impaired, requires repair.” The proposed technical recommendations are immediate rehabilitation at critical points and optimization of preventive maintenance to restore optimal water service functionality.

Abstract

The Lang-Lang Irrigation Network (JI), located in Singosari Subdistrict, Malang Regency, plays a vital role in supporting the productivity of 98 hectares of agricultural land. The Lang-Lang Irrigation Network (JI) is one of 717 irrigation networks (JI) in Malang Regency. Geographically, the service area of the Lang-Lang Irrigation Network (JI) is highly complex as it stretches from Ngenep Village to Lang-Lang Village, traversing an area with a mix of dense settlements and agricultural land. These conditions create the potential for dual pressures on the irrigation network: technical challenges in maintaining efficient gravity flow, and non-technical challenges in the form of potential disruptions (such as trash dumping or illegal tapping) due to proximity to densely populated settlements. The survey design for the irrigation system performance assessment analysis is based on Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing Regulation No. 12/PRT/M/2015. The analysis process integrates qualitative findings from field inspections with quantitative calculations using the Irrigation Structure Performance Index. The analysis results indicate that, in general, the infrastructure along the 500-meter-long Lang-Lang JI primary channel is in a state of Minor Damage (RR), with a physical assessment weight of 82.50%, and 17.50% falls into the category requiring periodic maintenance of a preventive nature. Meanwhile, the results of the assessment of the physical condition of irrigation infrastructure—specifically control and auxiliary structures—show that 74.44% are in a state of moderate damage (MD), and 25.56% fall into the category requiring periodic maintenance in the form of repairs.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the physical and functional performance of the infrastructure in the Kepulungan Irrigation District (DI), Malang Regency, which serves an agricultural area of 89 hectares. The background of this study is based on the trend of declining performance in the irrigation network due to natural factors such as sedimentation, as well as non-technical disturbances such as settlements and illegal tapping, which can reduce water distribution efficiency. The methodology used in this study is a quantitative approach involving a survey to inventory structures and canals through field walks (walkthroughs or transect walks). Performance assessment was conducted based on the Irrigation System Performance Index (IKSI) standards in accordance with Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing Regulation No. 12/PRT/M/2015, which includes an evaluation of the structural integrity of the structures and the operational smoothness of the water gates. The research results indicate that the condition of the infrastructure in the Kepulungan Irrigation District is in a critically poor state. Field findings identified various levels of damage, ranging from cracks in concrete walls and corrosion-induced degradation of water gate components to sediment accumulation that obstructs water flow. Quantitatively, the performance of this irrigation infrastructure reached only 56.624% of the maximum score of 100%, placing the Kepulungan irrigation network in the “Severely Damaged and in Need of Total Repair” category.

Abstract

Formwork that is often used in construction projects is multiplex formwork. Multiplex is formwork made of wood and is classified as conventional formwork that is also resistant to moisture. Multiplex is an efficient formwork material because it is easy to produce, economical, and flexible to use, even in constructions with complex designs. The use of efficient and effective construction materials is an important aspect of building design, especially in the context of multi-story building construction. In recent years, the use of multiplex as a construction material for floor and beam formwork has gained greater attention. Multiplex, which is made of bonded layers of wood, has various advantages, such as being lightweight, easy to install, and reusable. The selection of formwork installation methods determines the quality of concrete that can be achieved, because formwork that is too difficult to install or takes too long to reuse will result in suboptimal concrete work. Based on the formwork material shrinkage value on each floor, for example on the first (second) floor with a shrinkage value of 100%-93.45%=6.55% while the shrinkage value on the second floor (third) reaches 100%-88.84%=11.16%, and the effectiveness of repeated formwork use in formwork work is the reuse of formwork on the first floor (first) by 93.45% and on the second floor (second) by 88.84%.

Abstract

The performance of the unsignalized intersections at Jalan Mergan Raya and Jalan S. Supriadi in Malang City often experiences extreme traffic congestion, especially during rush hour. This study aims to provide a comprehensive examination of traffic patterns at these intersections and provide suggestions on how to improve them. This research uses a quantitative research design. Primary and secondary data were collected through direct surveys. The primary survey consisted of identifying side obstacles, calculating vehicle volume, and observing the physical form of the intersection. To learn more about population and vehicle growth, secondary data were obtained from the Malang City Statistics Agency (BPS). The 2023 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) were used to analyze the data, which included determining the degree of saturation (DJ), traffic volume, intersection capacity, delays, and the possibility of queues. The rate of vehicle growth was taken into account when forecasting intersection performance for the next five years. Based on the findings, the current intersection capacity is 3602 seconds per hour. Performance analysis shows a degree of saturation (DJ) of 1.04, indicating erratic traffic patterns and potential congestion. The potential for queuing ranges from 43.52% to 86.44%, with an average traffic delay of 17.52 seconds/vehicle. Traffic conditions are poor, as indicated by the current level of service (LOS), which is F. Traffic volume is expected to increase significantly over the next five years, with DJ reaching 1.70. This indicates that if corrective measures are not taken, intersection performance will continue to deteriorate and the LOS will remain at F. To improve intersection performance, this study recommends improving traffic signs and conducting additional research on the use of Traffic Signal Devices (APILL).

Abstract

The five-way intersection without traffic signals at the junction of Jalan Akordion Selatan, Jalan Saxophone, Jalan Akordion, Jalan Simpang Akordion, and Jalan Candi Panggung Barat experiences congestion due to the large number of vehicles. To estimate traffic flow conditions over the next five years, evaluate intersection performance, and determine whether traffic lights are needed, this study was conducted. The 2023 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) were used as the basis for analysis after a primary survey was conducted by recording vehicle volume for seven days between 06:00 and 22:00. At the southern approach, the degree of saturation (DS) was 0.202 (LOS B), west 0.489 (LOS C), north 0.201 (LOS B), and east 0.599 (LOS C), according to the 2025 observation findings. Several approaches are at LOS D (congested) and approaching the saturation limit (DS > 0.85), according to five-year predictions, which show an increase in DS to 0.258 (south), 0.625 (west), 0.256 (north), and 0.764 (east), with a total flow of 6,861 pcu/hour. An ideal signal cycle of 85 seconds is recommended by calculations using the Webster technique to regulate traffic flow. These findings indicate that the installation of traffic signals is crucial to improve intersection functionality, reduce delays, and facilitate better traffic flow.

Abstract

This study focuses on evaluating fire protection systems at gas stations, which are vital infrastructure for fuel supply. The main objective of this study is to assess the availability of fire protection systems and the need for fire extinguishers to minimize the risk of fire. The methods applied include a quantitative descriptive approach through field observations, interviews, and documentation studies. The results show that gas stations have adequate supplies of water and light fire extinguishers. However, active protection systems, including fire detectors, sprinklers, and hydrants, are still inadequate, with a recorded reliability rate of only 24% and field facility completeness reaching 11.7%. For passive protection and evacuation facilities, the scores were 18.79% and 22.45%, respectively, which were considered quite good. These findings recommend the installation of at least three 9 kg fire extinguishers, four pillar hydrants, and thirty sprinkler points. By implementing these recommendations, it is hoped that gas stations can improve the safety of service users and reduce the risk of fire, as well as comply with existing safety regulations. This study is expected to serve as a reference for gas station managers and related parties in their efforts to improve fire protection and safety systems at public fuel supply facilities.
