Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relevance of the philosophy of science paradigm to the development of contemporary scientific research methods. The study uses a literature study method by examining primary sources in the form of original works by leading philosophers of science and methodologists, as well as secondary sources in the form of articles from national scientific journals indexed by SINTA and international journals indexed by Scopus and Web of Science published in the period 2015–2024. Data are analyzed through a process of identification, classification, comparison, and synthesis of findings to examine the relationship between the philosophy of science paradigm and the development of research methodology. The results of the study show that each research approach, whether quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods, is based on different ontological, epistemological, and axiological assumptions according to the adopted paradigm. The paradigm shift from positivism to post-positivism, constructivism, and pragmatism also influences how researchers understand reality, acquire knowledge, and determine the research methods used. These findings emphasize that understanding the philosophy of science paradigm plays a crucial role in maintaining the consistency, validity, and meaningfulness of scientific research. Therefore, strengthening paradigmatic literacy is a fundamental need for researchers to produce research that is more reflective, valid, and relevant to contemporary scientific developments.

Abstract

Philosophy of science plays a fundamental role in constructing a systematic, rational, and critical scientific framework in curriculum development. In the context of Islamic educational management, curriculum innovation requires not only technical approaches but also a strong philosophical foundation to respond to contemporary challenges without losing Islamic values. This study aims to analyze the role of philosophy of science as a basis for curriculum innovation in Islamic educational management. This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method through the analysis of books, academic journals, and other relevant sources. The findings indicate that philosophy of science contributes to three main aspects: the ontological aspect related to the nature of knowledge and the goals of Islamic education, the epistemological aspect related to methods and approaches in curriculum development, and the axiological aspect related to values and orientation of the curriculum. The integration of these aspects produces a curriculum innovation model that is adaptive to contemporary developments while remaining grounded in Islamic values. This study contributes conceptually to the development of philosophy-based curriculum innovation in Islamic educational management.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of scientific exploration and scientific thinking procedures toward improving students’ Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) at the elementary and secondary education levels. The research method used was a literature study by analyzing various previous studies related to the development of higher-order thinking skills through scientific approaches and active learning models. The results showed that the low level of students’ HOTS was caused by the dominance of conventional learning and the use of teaching materials that did not sufficiently stimulate critical thinking skills. However, through the implementation of scientific exploration activities such as debates, discussions, discovery learning, and guided inquiry, students were able to develop their analyzing, evaluating, and creating skills more optimally. The findings also indicate that systematic scientific thinking procedures help students process information critically so that HOTS can develop effectively. The implication of this study emphasizes the importance of teachers designing contextual learning and using teaching materials that encourage students to think critically rather than merely focusing on memorization.
