Abstract

This This study was motivated by the importance of preserving local traditions as cultural heritage that contain social and spiritual values for community life. The Mulang-Mulangkan tradition is one of the cultural traditions of the Sambas Malay community that continues to be practiced and plays a significant role in strengthening social relationships and instilling religious values. This research aims to describe the social values embedded in the Mulang-Mulangkan tradition, identify the spiritual values contained within it, and explore community perceptions regarding the meaning and importance of this tradition in their daily lives. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research participants consisted of the village head, religious leaders, community leaders, and local residents who understood and actively participated in the implementation of the Mulang-Mulangkan tradition. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing to obtain an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon under study. The findings reveal that the Mulang-Mulangkan tradition embodies social values such as togetherness, mutual cooperation, solidarity, kinship, mutual respect, and the maintenance of social harmony among community members. The spiritual values reflected in this tradition include gratitude to Allah SWT, sincerity, patience, prayer, the strengthening of social bonds through silaturahmi (maintaining relationships), and awareness of the importance of building a harmonious life in accordance with Islamic teachings. The people of Mensere Village hold highly positive perceptions of this tradition, considering it not merely a cultural practice but also a medium for social and spiritual education that reinforces the cultural identity of the Sambas Malay community and promotes social cohesion amid the challenges of modernization.
