Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the role of Fathul Mubarok Islamic Boarding School in shaping students’ character through the integration of pesantren traditions and modernity. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed descriptively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that character development is fostered through religious habituation, discipline, the exemplary conduct of religious leaders (kiai), and the collective culture of the pesantren. In addition to preserving Islamic traditions such as classical Islamic text studies and moral development, the pesantren also accommodates modernity through formal education, the use of technology, and the development of skills relevant to contemporary societal needs. The study reveals that the integration of tradition and modernity strengthens the institution’s identity while producing students who are religious, disciplined, responsible, and adaptable to social change. Therefore, Fathul Mubarok Islamic Boarding School serves as an Islamic educational institution capable of maintaining traditional values while responding to contemporary challenges in the process of character formation. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis peran Pondok Pesantren Fathul Mubarok dalam membentuk karakter santri melalui integrasi tradisi pesantren dan modernitas. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembentukan karakter santri dilakukan melalui pembiasaan ibadah, penerapan disiplin, keteladanan kiai, dan budaya kolektif pesantren. Selain mempertahankan tradisi keislaman seperti kajian kitab klasik dan pembinaan moral religius, pesantren juga mengakomodasi modernitas melalui pendidikan formal, pemanfaatan teknologi, dan pengembangan keterampilan yang relevan dengan kebutuhan masyarakat. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa integrasi tradisi dan modernitas mampu memperkuat identitas pesantren sekaligus membentuk santri yang religius, disiplin, bertanggung jawab, dan adaptif terhadap perubahan sosial. Dengan demikian, Pondok Pesantren Fathul Mubarok berperan sebagai lembaga pendidikan Islam yang mampu menjaga nilai-nilai tradisional sekaligus merespons tuntutan zaman dalam proses pembentukan karakter santri.
