Abstract

Research on occupational safety in agriculture has expanded substantially over the past decades, yet its economic dimensions remain dispersed across multiple disciplinary traditions. This study aims to map the intellectual structure and thematic development of scholarly work linking agricultural labor, occupational health, and economic outcomes. Using a bibliometric approach, publications indexed in the Scopus database were systematically analyzed covering the period from 1973 to 2026. A total of 1229 peer reviewed articles and reviews were examined using bibliometrix in R and VOSviewer to identify publication trends, influential sources, leading contributors, country collaborations, keyword networks, and thematic patterns. The results reveal a sustained growth in research output, particularly after the mid-2000s, alongside a multidisciplinary publication landscape dominated by environmental, health, and agricultural economics journals. Keyword co-occurrence and thematic analyses indicate that while occupational safety and health constitute a central research focus, economic themes such as productivity, labor, income, sustainability, and policy are increasingly integrated but remain distributed across distinct clusters. This bibliometric evidence highlights the evolving recognition of occupational safety as an economic issue within agricultural systems. The study contributes by consolidating fragmented research streams into a coherent overview, offering insights for economists, policymakers, and researchers interested in labor welfare, productivity, and sustainable agricultural development.

Abstract

Understanding how agriculture contributes to economic growth while maintaining environmental sustainability has become an essential question in contemporary development research. To examine how this interdisciplinary field has evolved, this study employs a bibliometric analysis of 394 Scopus-indexed articles retrieved on 3 October 2025, reflecting research published from 1975 through 2025, focusing on the intersection of agriculture, economic growth, environmental sustainability, and econometric modeling. Data were analyzed with VOSviewer and CiteSpace to map research trends, collaboration, and methodological patterns. The results indicate a consistent rise in publication activity and citation impact, reflecting the growing scholarly attention to sustainable agricultural economics. Asian countries, particularly China, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia, have emerged as leading contributors, highlighting the region’s central role in agricultural transformation and policy-driven research. Econometric approaches such as time series, panel data, and cointegration models dominate methodological trends, underscoring the discipline’s increasing reliance on quantitative analysis. However, international and interinstitutional collaboration remains limited, suggesting that greater integration is needed to achieve a more unified global research landscape. The findings provide valuable insights into the intellectual structure and evolution of agricultural economics, offering a foundation for future studies that aim to strengthen methodological diversity and advance sustainable development policies.

Abstract

Climate change and global warming have become urgent challenges for all nations. Rapid population growth continues to raise energy demand, generating outputs that often create negative externalities and worsen environmental conditions. The Ecological footprint (EFP) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are key indicators of environmental quality, with higher levels of these indicators generally reflecting a deterioration in environmental conditions. This study examines the effects of economic growth, renewable energy, and non-renewable energy on Indonesia’s environmental quality from 1965 to 2023 using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach, Granger causality and wavelet coherence analysis. The results reveal Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) dynamics, with an N-shaped EKC for the ecological footprint and an inverted N-shaped EKC for CO2 emissions. Capital formation reduces both EFP and CO2 emissions, while renewable energy significantly decreases CO2 emissions. Granger causality analysis shows directional relationships between economic growth, energy use, and environmental quality. Wavelet coherence results indicate strong co-movement between economic growth and non-renewable energy with EFP and CO2, confirming that fossil-fuel-driven expansion remains the main driver of degradation. In contrast, renewable energy and capital formation show negative coherence with environmental indicators, reflecting their growing role in mitigating ecological stress. Overall, the findings highlight Indonesia’s dual challenge of sustaining economic growth while curbing long-term environmental degradation, emphasizing the need for structural reforms, greater investment in renewable energy, and stronger environmental governance to ensure a sustainable development path.
