Abstract

This study aims to analyze the importance of educator creativity in increasing community learning participation in non-formal education. The approach used was descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that educator creativity plays a significant role in creating a learning environment that is engaging, contextual, and relevant to community needs. This creativity is reflected in learning methods, media use, and interpersonal approaches that can increase student motivation and engagement. Furthermore, community learning participation increases when learning is designed flexibly and applicably. However, obstacles remain, such as limited facilities and educator competencies. Therefore, continuous strengthening of educator creative competencies is necessary to improve the quality of community education.

Abstract

Indonesia's low literacy achievement, reflected in its 68th ranking out of 81 countries in PISA 2022, underscores the urgency of developing alternative literacy programs beyond formal schooling. Although literacy research has been widely conducted in formal school settings, studies specifically examining literacy programs in non-formal institutions with inclusive reward systems in Indonesia remain scarce. This research gap motivated the present study, which aims to examine the role of literacy activities in fostering learning enthusiasm and creative capacity among learners at Yayasan Berbudi Luhur Indonesia. The foundation organizes afternoon learning programs for children from kindergarten to elementary school age, encompassing reading, storytelling, writing, and drawing activities, supported by a monthly reward system designed to encourage achievement motivation. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, utilizing observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Participants comprised 30 learners, 5 tutors/facilitators, and foundation administrators. Findings indicate that consistent literacy programs combined with periodic rewards significantly increased learners' enthusiasm, evidenced by an average attendance rate of 87.3%, active participation, and improved quality of produced works. Creative capacity developed through short story writing, illustration drawing, and oral presentations, with a total of 524 works produced over three months. The monthly reward system functioned as an effective extrinsic motivator, progressively cultivating intrinsic motivation in 73% of learners.

Abstract

The effectiveness of learning for children with special needs (CSN) is influenced by teachers’ strategies in adapting instruction to students’ characteristics and learning abilities. This study aims to analyze teachers’ strategies in improving learning effectiveness for children with special needs at SLB Pelita Hati Pekanbaru. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews, observations, and documentation involving school principals and teachers as key informants. The findings show that teachers implemented adaptive strategies such as differentiated instruction, individualized approaches, repetitive teaching techniques, and the use of visual and concrete learning media to support students’ understanding. Learning assessment was conducted flexibly based on students’ individual progress. In addition, collaboration between teachers and parents became an important factor in supporting learning continuity at home. However, challenges remained in terms of limited learning media, technology integration, and systematic documentation of student development. Overall, teachers’ strategies at SLB Pelita Hati Pekanbaru contributed positively to improving learning effectiveness for children with special needs, although continuous professional development and instructional innovation are still needed.

Abstract

This article discusses the development of a learning ethos among at-risk youth through vocational training programs, specifically in welding and automotive repair. This article is based on data from program evaluations obtained through observation and interviews. The study's findings indicate that participants' learning ethos is shaped through a practice-based learning approach (learning by doing), which encourages active participation, discipline, and responsibility in completing tasks. Additionally, the role of instructors, a structured learning environment, and the relevance of the material to workplace needs further strengthen participants' learning ethos. The impact of a strong learning ethos is evident in the improvement of technical skills, self-confidence, and the participants' ability to apply these skills for employment or entrepreneurship. However, further strengthening is needed in the areas of workplace safety and mentoring tailored to the participants' capabilities. Thus, the learning ethos becomes a critical factor in the success of training and empowerment programs for youth under supervision
