Abstract

Occupational safety in mining environments remains a significant concern, particularly among informal workers such as porters who often lack adequate first aid knowledge and skills. This community service program aimed to improve the competency of porters in handling emergency situations through first aid (P3K) training based on the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. The program was conducted in Jember from April 10 to April 15, 2026, involving active porters working in mining areas. The implementation consisted of several stages, including asset identification, needs assessment, training design, and participatory learning activities such as lectures, demonstrations, and simulation-based practice. Data were collected using pre-test and post-test instruments as well as observational assessments of practical skills. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, indicated by an increase in the average score from 62 (pre-test) to 88 (post-test). In addition, participants demonstrated improved practical skills and greater confidence in performing first aid procedures during simulation sessions. The application of the ABCD approach contributed to active participation and effective utilization of local assets, enhancing the overall impact of the program. In conclusion, the training program proved to be effective in strengthening both knowledge and skills, while also fostering a safety-oriented culture among porters in mining communities. This approach is recommended for broader implementation in similar high-risk occupational settings.

Abstract

Occupational safety awareness is an essential component in supporting workplace preparedness and reducing occupational risks within mining exploration environments. Exploration porters frequently encounter hazardous working conditions, including difficult terrain, heavy equipment transportation, environmental risks, and physically demanding operational activities. This community empowerment program aimed to strengthen occupational safety awareness among exploration porters through participatory PPM activities conducted in Banyuwangi on October 22, 2025. The program employed a qualitative participatory approach involving educational workshops, practical safety demonstrations, emergency response simulations, collaborative discussions, and mentoring activities. Participants received training related to hazard identification, personal protective equipment usage, workplace communication, emergency preparedness, and safe operational behavior during exploration activities. The results demonstrated significant improvement in participants’ understanding of workplace hazards, safety procedures, risk prevention strategies, and emergency response preparedness. Participants also showed increased awareness regarding the importance of personal protective equipment and collective responsibility in maintaining workplace safety. In addition, collaborative discussions and practical simulations positively influenced participants’ communication skills, teamwork abilities, and confidence in applying occupational safety procedures during field operations. Despite challenges related to differences in educational backgrounds, traditional working habits, and limited previous safety training exposure, participatory educational methods and continuous mentoring contributed positively to strengthening safety awareness and responsible working behavior. Overall, the implementation of occupational safety training through PPM activities provided valuable opportunities for improving workplace preparedness, strengthening safety culture, and supporting sustainable community empowerment among exploration support workers in Banyuwangi.

Abstract

Mining exploration activities involve various occupational hazards, particularly for porter workers who assist with the transportation of equipment, materials, and logistical supplies in challenging field conditions. Limited understanding of occupational safety procedures may increase the risk of accidents, injuries, and unsafe work practices. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge, awareness, and practical understanding of occupational safety among porter workers supporting exploration activities in mining-affected communities in Banyuwangi, Indonesia. The program was implemented through participatory training involving lectures, interactive discussions, demonstrations, case studies, and practical simulations of safe working procedures. The training materials covered hazard identification, personal protective equipment, safe material handling, communication during field activities, emergency response, and basic accident prevention. The results indicated an improvement in participants' understanding of workplace hazards and their ability to apply basic safety procedures during exploration-related activities. Participants also demonstrated greater awareness of the importance of using appropriate personal protective equipment and maintaining effective communication while working in potentially hazardous environments. The program shows that community-based occupational safety training can strengthen the capacity of porter workers and contribute to safer exploration activities. Continuous safety education and periodic monitoring are recommended to sustain safe working practices in mining-affected communities.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology and social media has significantly transformed communication patterns in modern society, including the dissemination of religious information and Islamic preaching activities. However, the digital era has also facilitated the widespread circulation of hoaxes, misinformation, hate speech, and digital disinformation that threaten social harmony, religious tolerance, and public trust. This study aims to examine the strategy of moderate Islamic preaching in countering hoaxes and digital disinformation within contemporary society. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach through literature review and contextual analysis of digital communication, Islamic preaching, and media literacy. The findings indicate that moderate Islamic preaching plays an important role in promoting critical thinking, religious moderation, ethical communication, and social responsibility in digital spaces. Strategies such as strengthening digital literacy, promoting tabayyun (verification of information), utilizing social media platforms positively, developing inclusive religious narratives, and encouraging collaborative engagement among religious leaders, educational institutions, and communities are effective in reducing the spread of hoaxes and disinformation. The study also reveals that moderate Islamic values emphasizing tolerance, justice, wisdom, and peaceful communication are highly relevant in addressing digital information challenges in pluralistic societies. However, limited digital literacy, algorithmic polarization, and emotional manipulation remain major obstacles in combating misinformation effectively. Therefore, strengthening moderate Islamic preaching through adaptive digital strategies and ethical communication approaches is essential for fostering responsible digital citizenship and maintaining social harmony in the modern information era.
